  • Patent number: 4339913
Abstract: To be able to correct irregularities in the length of lay, which result from the reversal of the twisting device in SZ twisting devices with very large storage capacity, a post-twisting device is arranged after the SZ twisting device, the post-twisting device including a retwisting disc with an equalization section in the back thereof. The length of the equalization section is at least five times the resulting length of lay; the speed of rotation of the post-twisting device is equal to the difference between two successive speed steps of the SZ twisting device and direction of rotation of the post-twisting device is changed in the same rhythm as the rotary motion of the SZ twisting device.

  • Patent number: 4328664
Abstract: SZ twisting of stranding elements of electric or optical cables and lines is accomplished by means of twisting apparatus which consists of a twisting section defined by a first and a second twisting point within which at least one twisting head is arranged. The twisting head includes at least one deflection pulley or deflection roller which is stationary in the circumferential direction of the material to be twisted and with which the material to be twisted is in contact over part of the circumference. The axis of the deflection pulley or deflection roller is set at an angle to the axis of the tautly conducted material to be twisted. The inclination of this axis can be varied at intervals and the location of the deflection pulley or deflection roller relative to the material to be twisted can be changed at intervals. By setting the axis at an angle, a force component in the tangential direction which leads to a twisting of the material to be twisted, is exerted on the material to be twisted.

  • Patent number: 4317329
Abstract: An accumulator for twisting or stranding cable having planet gears revolving around a sun gear. Each planet gear carries an accumulator roll in a position spaced from the planet gear axis so that during rotation of the gears each accumulator roll travels alternately towards and away from the axis of the sun gear. The accumulator rolls move in synchronism and thus the accumulator capacity which is dictated by the distance between accumulator rolls, changes between maximum and minimum capacities dependent upon the accumulator roll movement. With two accumulators in series and operating with the accumulator rolls of one accumulator out of phase with the other by 1/2.degree., an `SZ` twist is provided.

  • Patent number: 4291527
Abstract: A cable strand tension-controlling apparatus is described. As numerous individual wire or fibre-optic cable strand material is fed from multiple pay-off neutralizers, the cable strand material is directed across a rotating driven capstan and subsequently a rotating idler capstan. The cable strand then is directed into contact with a moveable accumulator. The moveable accumulator is positioned appropriately in response to the internal tension of the cable strand that is in contact with it. Signals eminating from the rotating moveable accumulator are then transmitted to a take-up in order to control the position and movement of the take-up reel.

  • Patent number: 4224788
Abstract: In apparatus for SZ twisting twist elements of electric cables so that twisted units, in which the distance between the reversal points of the twist direction is about 500 to 1000 m, can be manufactured with apparatus of relatively short overall length, the basically straight accumulator section of the SZ twisting machine is divided into several subsections arranged in different, preferably parallel planes and connected to each other by deflection devices. The devices provided for guiding and deflecting the material to be twisted make possible or ensure the rotation of the material to be twisted in the region of the individual subsections of the accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4214430
Abstract: For the layer-wise SZ-stranding of elements to be stranded about a core strand, the elements to be stranded are first temporarily cabled onto the core strand with a long lay and alternating direction of lay, subsequently roped down from the core strand by means of a first cabling disc and fed, parallel to the core strand, to a second, oscillating cabling disc by means of which the final stranding is accomplished. The two cabling discs advantageously form the end faces of a twisting cage which revolves with alternating direction of rotation, with the distance of a first twisting closer, into which the core strand and the elements to be cabled enter, from the first cabling disc and the distance of the first cabling disc from the second cabling disc larger than the distance of the twist reversal points in the finished stranded material.

  • Patent number: 4214432
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for forming S-Z twisted strand units which comprises a frame and an elongated body mounted to the frame for rotation about a longitudinal body axis. The body is comprised of an assembly of tubules extending side by side longitudinally between opposite body ends. A first twisting head is rigidly mounted to one end of the elongated body which has a sheave mounted for rotary movement about a sheave axis transversing the longitudinal body axis. A second twisting head is rigidly mounted to the other end of the body having another sheave mounted for rotary movement about another sheave axis which transverses the longitudinal body axis. Means are also provided for rotating the elongated body in alternate directions about the longitudinal body axis.

  • Patent number: 4207928
Abstract: This process provides for twisting continuously supplied wires in one of preset directions with an essentially uniform pitch of twist ensuring the maximum number of lays in the zone of preliminary twisting, while simultaneously twisting the wires in the opposite direction in the zone of final twisting of wires to form an article. The machine for accomplishing the process comprises, sequentially mounted on a bed, an unwinding device, a twisting mechanism, a pull-out mechanism and a take-up mechanism. Arranged between the unwinding device and the twisting mechanism are guides accommodating a carriage having a reciprocation drive. According to the invention, the machine is provided with an auxiliary twisting head mounted on the carriage and provided with a drive for rotating the head synchronously with the twisting head of the twisting mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4127982
Abstract: A plurality of elongated elements is maintained at a distance from one another by a spacing element, joined together at an inlet nipple, and twisted in the same twisting direction at a constant twisting speed by a twisting head located downstream of the inlet nipple, to emerge from the twisting head through an outlet nipple. The distance of the spacing element from the inlet nipple is cyclically varied by displacing the spacing element at a displacement speed which is lower than the advancement speed of the elements. The displacement speed is increased to the advancement speed during the displacement of the spacing element from a terminal position of a trajectory of displacement of the separating element which is more remote from the twisting head than the other terminal position, in a section of the trajectory having a length which is a predetermined fraction of the length of the trajectory.
