Abstract: A spinning wheel assembly, including a collapsible frame and a spinning assembly connectable thereto. The spinning assembly includes a first grooved pulley and a plurality of differently sized second grooved pulleys, each pulley being rotatably connectable to the frame. A spindle is removably connectable to a respective grooved second pulley, and an endless belt is operationally connected to the first and second pulleys. Each respective grooved second pulley has at least one circumferential groove defining an effective diameter and at least one unique effective diameter.
Abstract: The flyer and spindle brake assembly for hand spinning wheels includes a cantilevered spindle and flyer assembly extending from a single maiden post. The spindle base is secured in an adjustable brake mechanism installed in the upper end of the maiden. The flyer has a closed distal end with a spindle bearing and yarn orifice. The flyer is urged toward its whorl or drive pulley by a coil spring on the spindle. The flyer is pulled axially outwardly away from the whorl to release the distal end of the spindle therefrom, the flyer then pivoting from the spindle axis for installation or removal of a bobbin or spool on the spindle. The brake mechanism provides extremely fine and accurate adjustment of braking force for the spindle and spool, while the flyer mechanism allows removal and installation of a spool on the spindle without the need for disassembly of components.
Abstract: A bobbin winder which can be mounted in the flyer bearings and can be driven by the belt of the spinning wheel and upon which a bobbin spool may be mounted so as to wind thread or yarn by using the drive of the spinning wheel.
Abstract: A yarn spinner has two spaced apart upstanding posts whose upper ends each have a slot for receiving and journalling opposite ends of a spindle shaft. A flyer formed by a wire constituting a guide has a loop formed in it through which spun yarn is diverted to a distributor. The distributor is a v-shaped spring clip having a hole in each side for passing over the guide wire and a ring is suspended in the apex of the V through which the yarn is threaded for diverting it to a bobbin on the spindle. Pressing the sides of the spring clip toward each other releases it for movement on the guide wire and releasing the sides re-engages it with the wire. A tensioner line running over the bobbin has a rubber band in it and a capstan allows winding and unwinding line to increase and decrease the stretch of the rubber band to corresponding change the frictional drag on the bobbin.
Abstract: A level wind spinning wheel has an improved flyer assembly wherein a level wind mechanism is incorporated in one arm of the flyer in such a way that the arm is free at one end for direct drive and axial removal of the bobbin. The arm comprises a rigid hollow tube extending parallel to the flyer spindle and having a cross-threaded journaled rod for rotation in its ends. A proximal end of the tube is supportingly connected to the spindle via a transverse member, which carries a gear train for rotating the rod. A traveler mounted on the rod carries an eye which protrudes through a lengthwise slot in the tube. A bobbin received on the spindle has a first gear which drives, through the gear train, a second gear mounted concentrically on the rod within the proximal end of the tube. The tube encloses and supports the cross-threaded rod and second gear. The slot retains the traveler eye against rotation on the rod as the traveler moves back and forth along the rod to uniformly wind yarn onto the bobbin.
Abstract: A manually operated spinning machine which is readily collapsible for transportation or storage. The spinning machine consists of a compartment which has an open front and a lid, the lid being movable between a closed position and an open position. A wheel is housed within the compartment for rotation in a vertical plane parallel to the front. A spinning head is mountable on the inside of the lid so that, when the lid is in the open position, the spinning head can be positioned with its pulley aligned with the wheel. A belt is provided for coupling the wheel and the pulley. Treadle means are connectable to the wheel through a crank for effecting rotation of the wheel.
Abstract: Spinning wheels, equipped with spindle for a flyer and bobbin, are provided with a second and detachable spindle which can be fitted into and locked in the outside orifice of the spindle holding the flyer and the bobbin, to allow the spinning of yarn of larger size or irregular size which would otherwise not pass through the orifice of the spindle holding the flyer, thus allowing the spinning of yarn of any size on the same spinning wheel.
