With Coating Or Impregnating Patents (Class 57/32)
  • Patent number: 4660363
Abstract: The invention provides a method for making fur bearing strands from hides of fur bearing animals and a yarn from such strands suitable for producing a fur garment. The yarn has low stretch characteristics by virtue of treatment of the hide portions used to make it. Strands are made from hide portions joined side by side at abutting longitudinal edges and slit transversely of the joined portion. A yarn is made from the strands, which may be joined end to end, by longitudinally twisting them so that the fur is substantially about the exterior thereof.

  • Patent number: 4633662
Abstract: A flat yarn wherein fibers composing a yarn are bonded to each other substantially in a side-by-side manner to form a tape-like flat body and the flat body has a plurality of gear-crimped portions across a width thereof. There may be a plurality of reverse points at which front and back surfaces of the yarn replace each other. The points are twisted in the same direction and positioned at random intervals from each other. The gear-crimped portions are arranged randomly in the lengthwise direction of the yarn. The fibers composing the yarn are bonded to each other in an intermittent manner in the lengthwise direction of the yarn. A fabric made from the flat yarn has an aesthetic appearance and soft touch as well as good crease resistance. A method of production for the same is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4534163
Abstract: In making synthetic rope or cable, a plurality of filaments are brought in parallelism into a core and compacted by a plurality of ribbons or tapes wound about the core under tension in opposite directions to form a uniform jacket that is torsionally stable. An outer sheath which may be urethane or other plastic material is applied to the jacket under sufficient pressure to penetrate the jacket but not the core, and then the urethane is cured. The rope or cable of the invention has a core of substantially parallel filaments free to move within the jacket of ribbons wound about the core and penetrated with the urethane or other plastic material. The method affords many advantages in speed of manufacture and cost, and provides a rope or cable of greater tensile strength and flexibility than other rope or cable constructions.

  • Patent number: 4519195
Abstract: A system for helically wrapping a tape comprises tape twisting means, and, upstream of the twisting means, means for shaping the tape. The shaping means comprises a body over which the tape passes, the body having a first surface of at least partially cylindrical form and an outwardly curved edge surface extending along a side of the first surface. Tape supply means is arranged to feed the tape onto the first surface such that the tape is inclined to a plane at right angles to the axis of the first surface whereby an edge of the tape engages the curved edge surface and is thereby shaped in order to initiate wrapping. The system is particularly suitable for wrapping a paper tape around a nylon core.

  • Patent number: 4433536
Abstract: An improved synthetic twine and method of manufacturing same are disclosed. The synthetic twine comprises at least one longitudinally extending oriented synthetic ribbon which has been fibrillated to provide a net-like structure having fine fibril stems connected by finer fibril branches, and a synthetic binder in thin band form made of a material compatible with the synthetic ribbon. The synthetic binder is spirally wrapped around and fused to the synthetic ribbon. The method of making a twine comprises the steps of providing at least one longitudinally extending ribbon, orienting the synthetic ribbon and fibrillating the synthetic ribbon to provide a net-like structure having fine fibril stems connected by finer fibril branches. Thereafter, a synthetic binder in thin bank form is spirally wrapped and fused around the synthetic ribbon which has been oriented and fibrillated.

  • Patent number: 4056353
Abstract: A new apparatus is disclosed for the rope-drying of dyed fabric resulting in a new fabric pattern having distinctive patterning. The process has three critical areas, particularly: the apparatus' ability to maintain a tension on the rope while it is being dried over contact dryers; the rope being formed into a very defined cylinder through an elongated tube; and the length of contact drying being sufficient to impart the migration of the dye stuff through the rope to form the applicable pattern.
