  • Patent number: 8549830
Abstract: A method and apparatus for imparting false twist to a short staple yarn delivered from a nip of a pair of front drafting rollers before ring spinning. Downstream of the nip, the twisted yarn is drawn sequentially across first and second runs of travelling endless belts, such that the yarn wraps about a first convex surface of the first run, then passes between the first and second runs, before wrapping about a second convex surface of the second run. Friction between each of the first and second convex surfaces and the yarn imparts the false twist in a common direction. Maintaining a differential between first and second linear speeds of the first and second runs, respectively, has been found to reduce yarn defects, particularly the nep count.

  • Patent number: 8544252
Abstract: Method and apparatus for reducing residual torque in singles ring yarns, achieved by imparting two separate false twisting points on the traveling strand of fibers (or yarn) after the strand exits from the spinning triangle with a proper ratio between the belt speed and the strand feeding speed. In addition to reducing the residual torque, this double false twist technique also reduces yarn hairiness to the same level as achieved by more expensive compact spinning devices, reduces yarn twist by more than 20% and significantly enhances yarn and fabric softness. Furthermore, by combining the double false twist technique with a compact spinning device, the numbers of neps, thick and thin places are significantly reduced to produce high-quality yarns and fine-count yarns.

  • Patent number: 7096655
Abstract: In a process for manufacturing a singles ring yarn, firstly a first twist is supplied to a strand of traveling drafted fibers at a false twist device for producing a preliminary singles yarn. The false twist device rotates at a first speed for twisting the fibers. Immediately after the first twisting step, a joint twist of a second twist in the same direction as the first twist and a third twist in a reversed direction is supplied to the preliminary yarn for producing a final singles ring yarn. The second twist is produced by a rotatable take-up package onto which the final singles yarn is drawn. The reversed twist results in correspondence to the first twist, and the take-up package rotates at a second speed. The final singles yarn is then drawn onto the take-up package. Furthermore, a ratio of the first speed to the second speed is controlled for controlling the amount of a residual torque in the final singles ring yarn.

  • Patent number: 6023925
Abstract: A colored yarn is made in an inexpensive manner that allows a wide variety of different colors or hues within the product line, and also allows a wide variety of different effects to be produced including yarns with minimal leather effect, or yarns with a distinct and desired heather effect. A first coarse feeder yarn, e.g. a 1/1 semi worsted yarn, is ring or open end spun with about 2.5 turns per inch. The coarse feeder yarn is dyed, dried, and then cut and opened up into individual fibers about four inches long or less (preferably two inches long or less). The individual fibers are blended with differently colored or hued fibers produced in the same way, and/or with greige or colored staple fibers, to produce a blended composite of fibers. The blended composite is then spun, for example ring spun or open end spun, into a final colored yarn. Rayon fibers may especially effectively and uniquely be utilized, although almost any fiber or mix of fibers can be used.

  • Patent number: 6006509
Abstract: A method for continuously producing a twisted yarn with minimal curling tendency includes the steps of spinning a yarn and directly thereafter, within a time period of less than one second, twisting the yarn. The yarn tension at the end of the spinning step can be adjusted to be essentially the same as the yarn tension at the end of the twisting step, or, in the alternative, the yarn tension at the end of the twisting step is greater than 70% of the yarn tension at the end of the spinning step.

  • Patent number: 5918453
Abstract: Fabrics containing melamine fibers are rendered more comfortable by carding the melamine fibers under vacuum so as to exhibit a narrower fiber diameter distribution (.delta..sub.d) and/or a narrower staple length distribution (.delta..sub.l) as compared to melamine fibers which are carded in the absence of vacuum. In addition, more comfortable melamine fiber-containing yarns are produced by spinning the staple fiber at a lower twist multiplier (TM) as compared to conventional melamine fiber yarns. Most preferably, the melamine fiber-containing fabrics and yarns will be blended with at least one other type of synthetic fibers, such as aramid fibers.

  • Patent number: 5901542
Abstract: A ring-spinning machine has spindles with head pieces, e.g. with fingers about which the yarn can be wound to reduce the ballooning of the yarn around the respective spindles. The thread-guide eyes above the headpieces can be depressed against a spring force from normal positions to enable the yarn to wind around the fingers and the spring force restores the eyes to their normal positions, thereby avoiding changes in the distances between the normal positions and the headpieces which may alter the spinning properties and yarn quality.

  • Patent number: 5848524
Abstract: A twisted yarn structure includes constituent fibers which extend between a surface and a core of the yarn structure so that at least one portion of each fiber is trapped and bound within the yarn structure by portions of other fibers. The fibers can extend cyclically or in random fashion between an inner region and an outer region of the yarn, and can be twisted in subgroups along the length of the yarn structure to be locked in position therein. To produce the yarn structure having fibers which cyclically extend between the inner and outer regions, the fibers of a drafted strand of fibers from front drafting rollers are spun and passed through an oscillating guide before being wound on a spindle.
