  • Patent number: 9856106
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for feeding thread at a knitting machine. One embodiment is a thread feeding device which includes a spool that supplies thread to a knitting device through a thread path and a motor that drives the spool. The device and further includes a mobile guide in the thread path that changes position due to changes in thread tension as the knitting device draws thread through the mobile guide. The thread feeding device also includes a sensor that measures a change in position of the mobile guide, and a controller that determines an amount of tension applied to the thread by the knitting device based on the change in position, and adjusts a speed of a motor that drives the spool based on the amount of tension.

Abstract: A method for interrupting yarn production on a spinning machine is provided. The spinning machine has a spinning point having an inlet for a fiber material and an outlet for the yarn made from the fiber material, as well as a delivery device for feeding the fiber material into the spinning point, a take-off device for drawing off the yarn out of the spinning point, a winding device for winding up the produced yarn, and a yarn monitoring unit for monitoring at least one yarn parameter. The yarn production is interrupted upon detecting a defined deviation of the monitored yarn parameter from a target value, upon changing bobbins at the winding device, and/or prior to switching off the spinning machine. The feed speeds of the delivery device, the take-off device, and the winding device are gradually reduced to a stop in order to interrupt the yarn production.

  • Patent number: 5187929
Abstract: An automatic device for positioning a mechanical yarn feeler against a yarn. An extendable arm is provided with a magnet at one end. The magnet is held in a pivotable base which pivots within a limited range on the arm. The magnet actively engages the feeler when the arm is extended and as the arm retracts to lower the feeler onto the yarn, the magnet rotates with respect to the arm. When the magnet rotation reaches its limit, the magnet disengages the feeler and the feeler becomes passively supported on the base. The feeler is then further lowered to rest against the yarn and the arm retracted out of engagement with the feeler.

  • Patent number: 4899529
Abstract: A method for winding a covered yarn in a covered yarn manufacturing machine. A non-elastic yarn is supplied from a wrapping yarn bobbin and is wrapped around a core yarn made of an elastic yarn to form a covered yarn. The covered yarn is traversed by a traverse guide along a winding bobbin and is wound around the winding bobbin. The traverse guide is displaced along the winding bobbin to a position outside a normal traversing region when the non-elastic yarn on the wrapping yarn bobbin has almost consumed. Thereafter, the covered yarn manufacturing machine is stopped. Then, the consumed wrapping yarn bobbin of non-elastic yarn at supply is replaced by a new wrapping yarn bobbin of non-elastic yarn. The covered yarn manufacturing machine is restarted. The above-described steps of the displacing, the stopping, the replacing and the restarting are repeated with regard to one winding bobbin.

The apparatus includes a hollow spindle adapted to coaxially mount a supply package of the binder strand, yarn feed means for advancing the core strand through the spindle, and yarn take-up means for winding the resulting wrapped yarn into a package. In the event of yarn breakage, means are provided for interrupting the drives of the various components, and also for terminating the continued withdrawal of the binder strand from its supply package and the continued wind-up of such strand on the take-up package, which would normally occur where only the core strand is broken. Thus piece-up of the apparatus is facilitated by avoiding the necessity of removing the wound binder strand from the take-up package.

Abstract: A stop motion for textile machines for transmitting a signal for stopping a working station in case of a thread breakage or a used-up supply bobbin. The stop motion includes a thread guide eyelet secured to a thread sensor bar which is pivotable about a horizontal pivot shaft, and is characterized by a guide element located between the pivot shaft and the thread guide eyelet. The guide element supports the thread sensor bar in its normal operating position against lateral vibrational movements exerted by the running thread.

  • Patent number: 4472932
Abstract: A device attached to a spinning or twisting machine, designed to monitor the integrity of two threads merging under tension into a yarn, has a carrier in the form of a disk or a stem rotatable about an axis and provided with a thread guide such as an eyelet, or a pair of pins parallel to that axis, bracketing the yarn downstream of the merger point. A rupture of either thread, detected by a separate sensor or by one of the bracketing pins, generates or releases a force which rotates the carrier around its axis by about half a turn to impede the advance of the remaining intact thread whereby the latter also breaks and the machine is stopped automatically, or manually in response to an alarm signal.

  • Patent number: 4466236
Abstract: A device for detecting a break in one of two tensioned threads merging into a yarn comprises a support on which a guide member with two yarn-bracketing pins is pivotable about a horizontal axis. The guide member is provided with a hole penetrated by a stud of smaller diameter having a head with two or more chordal ridges of different peripheral widths each of which, when brought into a horizontal position above the stud axis, contacts a rabbet on the guide member disposed below its center of gravity to hold that member in a metastable position from which it is dislodged by a difference in the tensions of the two threads. When that difference surpasses a certain threshold, upon rupture of one of the threads, the guide member tilts into an unstable position from which it gravitates through substantially half a turn into an inverted stable position, thereby entangling the remaining intact thread with its pins and inhibiting the advance thereof so that it, too, will rupture.

  • Patent number: 4452168
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting a twisted pair (21) of conductors includes contact means (60) in the form of a generally semi-circular rocker. One diametrical end portion of the rocker rides on portions of the twisted pair of conductors as they are advanced over a sheave (34). The opposite diametrical end portion of the rocker is caused to be supported in alignment with a sensor (81). Should one of the conductors be missing, perhaps because of a break or equipment malfunction, the rocker is no longer caused to be maintained in a position such that the opposite end portion is aligned with the sensor. This causes the sensor to provide a signal indication of a break and because of its changed position to provide a visual indication to an operator.

  • Patent number: 4404791
Abstract: A ring spinning machine for spinning yarns comprised of finite length fibers has a plurality of spinning locations for combining two untwisted textile strands into a yarn to which a twist is imparted prior to winding up of the yarn. A sensor is associated at each spinning location which reacts to a break of one of the two fiber strands and causes an interruption of the spinning of the yarn. The sensor is designed to sense a characteristic of the yarn which changes in a manner recognizable by the sensor when the yarn is only being spun from one of the two fiber strands and an interrupter is provided which acts in response to the signal from the sensor to interrupt the spinning of the yarn upon the detection of a strand break.

  • Patent number: 4392340
Abstract: In a textile machine two primary yarns are fed under relatively low longitudinal tension from respective yarn supplies to a combining location at which they are combined into a single yarn. The combined yarns are fed from this location under relatively high longitudinal tension to a takeup station where they are wound up on a spool. The tension in the combined yarns is continuously monitored between the combining location and the takeup station and an output is generated when this tension drops from the high tension below a predetermined level at least equal to the relatively low tensions in the individual yarns. This occurs when one of the yarns breaks. The yarn feeds are interrupted when the output is generated to prevent forming an inadequately plied yarn.

Abstract: The invention involves a ply or wrapped yarn spinning assembly of the type having a drawing unit supplying a sliver through one or more hollow spindles, at which hollow spindles a binding thread is wrapped spirally around the sliver to form yarn. Yarn condition monitors detect the yarn condition and the supply of binding thread. In the event of a malfunction, including exhaustion of binding thread at a hollow spindle, the monitors automatically disengage the supply of sliver by pivoting open a load bearing member of the drawing unit. In preferred embodiments the monitors also actuate mechanical actuators for pivoting driving or driven rollers of the hollow spindles, yarn take-off rolls, and a yarn windup device of the spinning assembly.
