With Removal Of Catalyst Component From Metal-hydrocarbon Complex Patents (Class 585/705)
  • Patent number: 9186655
Abstract: A eutectic supported catalyst system is used in catalyzed chemical reactions. A metal catalyst particle is supported in a eutectic medium. The system may have a) a eutectic composition of at least two metals forming the eutectic composition; and b) metal catalyst particles, preferably of nanometer dimensions, such as from 0.5 to 50 nm. The particles are dispersed throughout the eutectic composition when the eutectic composition is solid, and the particles are dispersed or suspended throughout the eutectic composition when the eutectic composition is in liquid form. At least one metal of the eutectic may comprises lead and a metal in the metal catalyst is a different metal then the metals in the eutectic. The eutectic may be in a liquid state and the metal catalyst particles may be in an equilibrium state within the eutectic.

  • Patent number: 6774274
Abstract: The cationic iridium carbene complexes [Ir(cod)(N)(L)]X have been synthesized by reaction of [Ir(cod)(py)2]PF6 with L or NL ligands. Complexes of this type are active hydrogenation catalysts capable of hydrogenating simple olefins at room temperature and atmospheric pressure of hydrogen or by transfer hydrogenation.

  • Patent number: 6469225
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of alkanes comprising a cross-metathesis reaction between at least one starting alkane (A) and one organometallic compound (B) fixed to an inorganic support and comprising a metal bonded to at least one hydrocarbon-comprising radical. The reaction leads to the formation of at least one other alkane (C) which is a higher or lower homologue of the starting alkane (A), by cleavage of the hydrocarbon-comprising radical with the metal of the organometallic compound (B) and recombination of the radical with at least one other radical originating from a cleavage of the starting alkane (A). The metal of the compound (B) preferably is selected from transition metals, lanthanides and actinides, and the hydrocarbon-comprising radical of the compound (B) preferably is selected from alkyl, alkylidene and alkylidyne radicals.

  • Patent number: 5209907
Abstract: An improved system for performing an alkylation process and a method for handling liquid catalyst in an alkylation process. This improvement involves a method and apparatus by which liquid alkylation catalyst contained in alkylation process equipment can be safely stored and isolated from the external environment. Additionally, the apparatus improvement will allow for an improved method for controlling the circulation of liquid alkylation catalyst by providing means for quickly stopping the circulation of alkylation catalyst. The apparatus improvement includes a baffle contained within a vessel which is attached to the bottom of the vessel and extends upwardly into the vessel. The baffle is designed to allow for the liquid flow between the inside of the vessel and the inside of the baffle and it allows for the venting into a vapor space from the top of the baffle. Within the baffle is standpipe which provides for fluid flow from within the baffle to a region outside the vessel.

  • Patent number: 5021223
Abstract: An improved system for performing an alkylation process and a method for handling liquid catalyst in an alkylation process. This improvement involves method and apparatus by which liquid alkylation catalyst contained in the alkylation process equipment can be transferred into a catalyst storage vessel without the need for venting excess pressure from the storage vessel to atmosphere. Through a combination of the physical arrangement of the process equipment and the storage vessel along with the addition of a pressure equalization line, apparatus is provided whereby certain process steps can be followed which allow the transfer of catalyst from the process equipment to the storage vessel without venting the storage vessel. The improvement comprises physically locating the catalyst storage vessel at a relative elevation below the alkylation process equipment and providing a line to connect the vapor space of the storage vessel with that of a catalyst settling vessel in the process equipment.

  • Patent number: 4962268
Abstract: In an alkylation process wherein the amount of hydrogen fluoride (HF) acid catalyst required to maintain a desired HF acid/hydrocarbon ratio in a plurality of alkylation reactors is contained in the lower portion of a common settler vessel, the improvement comprises: dividing the lower portion of the common settler vessel into a plurality of chambers for containing the desired amount of HF acid catalyst, such that a leak affecting the catalyst handling system for one of the plurality of reactors would only spill the amount of liquid HF acid contained in one of the chambers, and would not affect the liquid HF acid level in a non-leaking chamber.
