  • Patent number: 4809496
Abstract: A mechanism for joining a chain end to a chain link utilizes a sliding link connected to a first link of the chain. The sliding link can be disengaged only by displacing it onto the straight portion of the first link and moving it forwardly to a second position. For connection, the sliding link is moved about the straight portion to a third position and is then moved upon engagement of a second chain link by an opposite displacement back to the locking position. Thus locking and unlocking is achieved only by two specific movements of the sliding link. Inadvertent unlocking is prevented by the shape and position of the sliding link.

  • Patent number: 4750325
Abstract: A chain link having a pair of curved extremities and being generally in the shape of an elongated loop. The loop defines two sides which converge towards the middle of the link where the two sides are rigidly jointed together, as by a weld, thereby forming a pair of interior spaces progressively narrowing towards the middle. • Patent number: 4747261
Abstract: A load transmitting chain (1) comprises a series of links each formed by a number of link plates (2) arranged side by side and meshing with the link plates of the adjacent link to which they are pivotally connected by link pins (4). The chain is intended for use in transmitting force from a hydraulic cylinder having a piston rod, for example in a fork-lift truck. To avoid damage to the piston rod by contact of the links (2), which are of steel, with it, the chain is provided with a row of additional protective link plates (5) which are sandwiched between the link plates (2) and have projecting portions (11). The protective link plates (5) are made of plastics material and the projecting portions (11) act as buffers so that they come into contact with the piston rod without causing damage and prevent direct contact between the steel link plates (2) and the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4635438
Abstract: A self-locking link includes two identical link elements which are adapted for connection to two chain links and for mutual engagement with each other. Each link element is generally L-shaped and includes a head portion and a body having an aperture therein. Each body aperture includes an enlarged portion as well as a narrower, elongated portion aligned with a straight line extending between the two chain links to be coupled. The enlarged portion of each aperture is adapted to receive the head portion of the other link element and includes a V-shaped notch therein extending along the aforementioned straight line between the two coupled chain links. Application of a work force along the thus connected link elements of the generally rectangular shaped self-locking link results in the displacement of the head portion of each link element into the elongated portion of the aperture of the other link element.

  • Patent number: 4467598
Abstract: An energy absorbing chain which can be used as a "one shot" safety chain to absorb sudden impacts or short term tensional forces is disclosed. According to the invention, the safety chain is made of a metal having high ductility such that the chain will tend to deform, stretch, and/or deflect rather than break. According to a preferred embodiment, the chain may include links such as links (36), (38), (40) and (42) each of which includes a twist of 90.degree. to increase the amount of available deformation. In the preferred embodiment, link (36) and (40) include a twist in a first direction such as a clockwise direction whereas links (38) and (42) which alternate with links (36) and (40) include a 90.degree. twist in the opposite or counterclockwise direction. Thus upon receiving or being subjected to such tensional forces, the links can deform as shown by links (58), (60) and (62) as they absorb energy for a short period of time.

The slots of the center link are slightly restricted to prevent disassembly when not desired, as in handling the chain. Also, U-shaped center link bushings in which the pins are turnable and with which the pins may pivot for chain side-flexing provide a restriction to assembly and disassembly and particularly the latter so that unintended disassembly is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4134255
Abstract: A chain particularly useful for draglines in various type strip mining operations is disclosed. The chain is made up of individual, separately assembled links of generally a U-shape having spaced pin lugs at one end. The lugs have aligned pin eyes for holding a pin between them, which is received generally flush with the outside surfaces of the lugs. To prevent pin rotation and to prevent oblong wear in the pin eyes, the pin and the eyes have a flat surface on the side toward the open end of the U-shaped link. With the pin installed in the eyes, a roll pin is press fit through one lug and through that end of the pin to retain the link pin in place. Openings in the lug are oblong shaped, so that some forward and backward movement of the link pin is permitted and the roll pin is never put in a shear situation. The link units are assembled at 90.degree. to one another, with a pin of one link passing through the next link.

  • Patent number: 4129285
Abstract: A chain for binding logs on a transport platform may be fabricated from a plurality of sequentially connected generally planar links, each link having laterally directed, log-penetrating extensions mounted to its external sides and having an elongated member with two log-penetrating ends rigidly mounted between the sides of the link normal to the plane of the link. A combination of the chain with an over-center binder attached to said chain and having a chain-engageable first end is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4110971
Abstract: A link chain, particularly for use as an anchor chain, comprises a plurality of links joined together in sequence, each link including a closed member comprising a pair of facing U-shaped portions, the base of the U at each end of the member having a portion of its inside surface of part cylindrical form, the cylindrical axes of said portions being arranged substantially transversely with one convex and the other concave so that the part cylindrical convex surface of one end of one link mates with one part cylindrical concave surface at the other end of a preceding link when the chain is straight under tension, and enables the chain to withstand greater loads, the U-ends being shaped to permit relative pivoting of the links about an axis substantially transverse to the plane of the link.

Abstract: A shallow low cost conveyor system is disclosed for use with tow vehicles. The conveyor chain is provided with a drive which includes two idler sprockets and a drive sprocket all disposed to one side of the tow pin slot so that there is no chain in the adjacent portion of the slot. An auxiliary transfer mechanism transfers the tow pin across said portion of said slot.

  • Patent number: 4067188
Abstract: A heavy-duty chain link which constitutes a chain for use with vessels and the like. The link is fitted with a stud across the center thereof, which tends to prevent stretching and kinking of the link. Heat sources such as electron beams and plasma arcs fusion weld the abutting of two ends of the link, and the stud is wedged at at least one of its ends to said link by means of roots of weld beads provided by the heat sources. Such wedges lie at a right angle with the axis of the link for most effectively preventing the stretching and kinking of the link when it is subjected to a heavy load. A method of making this kind of stud chain link is disclosed also.

  • Patent number: 3965769
Abstract: A continuous press has two rotatively driven endless conveyor belts forming opposed, substantially linear spans defining a pressing zone, press platens applying pressure through these traveling spans to work carried therebetween, and anti-friction means being interposed between the platens and the spans. Such a press is improved in that the anti-friction means is formed by a multiplicity of endless loops of rotatively unpowered roller chains forming a bed interposed between the platens and the belt spans, the roller chain spans extending longitudinally with respect to the belt spans and being transversely packed together, but each chain being individually free to travel independently with respect to the others and to the belt span. The chains are formed so as to not have a continuous link gap so that the overall path is free from transverse interspacing.
