    Abstract: A rotary hydraulic engine is disclosed having a stationary crankshaft with an eccentric crank portion disposed thereon. A housing is rotatable about the crankshaft. At least two pairs of cylinders are connected to the housing and extend quadrilaterally therefrom. A piston is slidingly disposed within each cylinder, and is connected to an oppositely disposed piston so as to move in tandem when propelled by a fluid under pressure. An external valve mechanism is provided which is connected to the cylinders so as to sequentially actuate the pistons contained therein when supplied with fluid under pressure. A scotch yoke assembly integrates the motion of the pairs of pistons into a balanced array of weight and force vectors rotating around the axis of the eccentric crank portion of the stationary crankshaft. This sequential reciprocation of the pairs of pistons imparts a rotary motion to the housing, the rotary motion in turn causing the housing to act as a flywheel.

    Abstract: A compressed fluid reciprocating piston engine provides for cylinders radially disposed about a crankshaft and coupled thereto by means of piston rods engaging a disc rotatable with the crankshaft. Exhaust fluid feedback is merged into higher pressure fuel at a venturi throat section in the fuel conveyance line where the pressures are temporarily substantially equalized. A timer distributor mechanism consists of a disc rotatable by a shaft as journalled between two outer panels thereby with a rotating aperture hole to provide pressurized fluid through a scanned sequence of outlet lines serving to operate fluid input valves coupling a fluid pressure source selectively to power the reciprocating pistons.

    Abstract: A pump jack of the type comprising a rocker arm pivotably mounted intermediate its ends on a support member, said rocker arm being divided by said pivot mounting into a sucker-rod limb and a drive limb wherein the improvement comprises a pneumatic motor pivotably attached to the drive support member and further pivotably attached to the mounting base of the pump jack to provide the power to reciprocate the pump jack. The working fluid of said pneumatic motor being natural gas which is available from the well casing of the well without any interference with the flow of the oil in the oil tube of the well thereby making use of an energy source available at any oil well without having to provide gasoline to drive a rotating type gasoline engine or electricity to drive an electric motor usually of the rotating variety.

    Abstract: A magnet attracts succeeding sites distributed about the periphery of a disk causing the disk to rotate. The resulting centrifugal force pulls radially outwards a plurality of piston-like weights mounted on the disk lowering the pressure within a housing for the weights and in a vacuum tank to which the housing is communicated via a check valve. When the weights are all the way out, they operate a trip which renders the magnet temporarily ineffective. Springs return the weights back toward the center of the disk. The vacuum tank is communicated to an opposed piston engine via timed valves which alternately communicate the engine cylinders to the vacuum, for oscillating the opposed pistons. A crank shaft connected to these pistons converts the reciprocating motion to rotary motion.

    Abstract: A pneumatic power tool having a torque sensing control system is disclosed which is capable of consistently applying a precise torque to a fastener so that uniform tightening of any number of fasteners can be obtained. A torsional strain responsive transducer is mounted internally in the tool body and includes a strain gauge network mounted on a torsionally resilient portion of one of the gear cases of the drive train of the tool, the gear case being subject to a reaction component of the torque being transmitted through the drive train. The strain gauge network provides a control signal which effects energization of a solenoid-actuated air shut-off valve in the handle of the tool to automatically terminate the operation of the tool when a predetermined torque is obtained at the output spindle. The control system permits adjustment of the torque output of the tool and provides a visual readout of such output.

A converter system which is an engine and compressor system that is separate from the gas energized engine, and has a gas inlet that receives the exhaust of the gas exhaust system of the engine and functions to compress the exhaust gas to a high pressure and communicate the high pressure to the high pressure vessel of the gas supply system and to modify the exhaust atmosphere of the gas energized engine.

    Abstract: A pneumatic system includes a pneumatic motor, which may take the form of a vibrationless paving breaker utilizing a blow-striking member or hammer that is propelled to and from its force-transmitting or blow-striking position by a compressed gas. A valving arrangement provides for relatively large-ratio expansion of the compressed gas in the space under the hammer between its infeed thereinto and its exhaustion therefrom, in order to significantly utilize heat energy in the compressed gas to assist in energizing the propulsion of the hammer. Such heat energy is usually invested in the compressed gas by and during substantially adiabatic compression thereof at a gas-volume transformer, or compressor, included in the pneumatic system. It may be noted that the process of substantially adiabatic compression in the compressor is to a significant degree reversely duplicated in energizing the propulsion of the hammer.

    Abstract: Thermal energy is converted into rotational energy by using the expansion of a fluid medium to propel a plurality of pistons within at least one continuous, closed-loop passageway mounted on a rotatable platform. In at least one region of the passageway, the pistons must move inwardly against centrifugal force as the platform rotates. In at least one other region of the passageway, the pistons are moved outwardly under the influence of centrifugal force. Means are provided for imparting force to successive ones of the pistons to propel them against centrifugal force in said one region; while means are provided for converting the energy of pistons moving outwardly under the influence of centrifugal force in said other region into rotational energy. This rotational energy is used to drive gears mounted on the platform which mesh with a stationary gear carried beneath the platform to cause rotation of the platform about its rotational axis.

    Abstract: The air hammer is of the type employing a body having a first portion with a central bore and a piston reciprocable in the bore by pressurized air under control of an automatic valve. The body has a second or muffler portion which embraces the first portion and is operative to muffle the noise created by exhaust air from the bore. The muffler portion is provided with pressurized air passage means through which the pressurized air must pass for causing operation of the piston. The passage means are so arranged that removal of the muffler portion from the body disrupts the supply of pressurized air to the piston and thereby renders the hammer inoperative. Headers are provided on the ends of the body and are drawn tightly against the ends of the muffler portion by tie bolts which extend through through-passages, respectively, in the muffler portion.

    Abstract: In the embodiment shown, the device comprises a pair of turbine wheels, rotatively journaled, each having a peripheral, concave channel. The wheels are journaled to close onto each other, in close proximity, to define of their channels a circular aperture. A conduit is directed to impel rounds of shot into the aperture, so that rotary torque power will be derived from the turbine wheels. A supply of pressured steam accelerates the rounds through the conduit to the aperture, and a feed wheel singly and successively introduces the shot into the conduit. A drive belt fixed around a hub on the feed wheel and a hub on one of the turbine wheels imparts rotation to the feed wheel, and the spent-missile end of the conduit opens onto the feed wheel to cause the latter to store and advance shot.

    Abstract: A motor is provided of the piston or diaphragm type in which vacuum is constantly applied to one side of a piston or the like and air under pressure is constantly applied to the opposite side to drive the piston through a stroke. The vacuum and pressurized air may be obtained from sources outside the motor. A valve mechanism driven by the motor reverses the application of vacuum and air pressure when the piston reaches each end of its stroke so that power is continuously applied to both sides of the piston during both forward and reverse movement thereof. Different pistons are arranged out of phase with one another to provide a smooth flow of mechanical power. In one version, the motor drives an air pump having a vacuum inlet and an air pressure outlet, and by connecting such inlet and outlet to the valve mechanism, the motor will drive a load as well as itself. In another version, the motor has an internal combustion apparatus incorporated therewith.

    Abstract: In the embodiments shown, the device comprises a turbine wheel, rotatively journaled, having a peripheral, grooved surface onto which rounds of shot are impelled, under steam pressure, to rotate the wheel so that torque power might be derived therefrom. The turbine wheel, in turn, rotates a pulley -- by means of a drive belt -- which operates a sluice-type gating device. The latter device cyclically opens and closes off the pressured steam supply, and feeds a missile -- a round of shot -- to a conduit which terminates in adjacency to the turbine wheel, in order that the round, the missile, will be impelled through the conduit to impact upon the grooved surface of the turbine wheel and deliver a frictional, glancing, energy-transferring blow to the turbine wheel. The turbine wheel is rotatively carried on a support which is pivotally mounted, so that the turbine wheel can be moved into and out of proximity with the missile-impelling conduit in order to optimize missile impact.

The major surface of the fixed cam is generally at right angles to the direction of constant forces applied to respective ends of each translation rod.

    Abstract: An air-operated engine system usable for driving a vehicle by means of compressed air from a rechargeable storage tank. The engine of the system has cylinders containing driving pistons connected to a crankshaft. Compressed air from the storage tank is supplied at regulated pressure to the cylinders for power strokes by means of intake valves and the air is exhausted from the cylinders at the ends of the power strokes by means of exhaust valves. The intake and exhaust valves are operated by dual lobe cams on a camshaft driven from the crankshaft. The air is compressed by a hydrovane compressor which has a constant flow of air operating under 100 pounds pressure with control valves which will take in 25 pounds per minute up to 200 pounds. The output pressure is controlled by the input pressure.

    Abstract: A pumping device secured to a well head adapted to be counter balanced and operated by well head gas pressure. The pumping cylinder and the counter balance cylinder are positioned on a prolonged axis and employ a common polished piston rod operably mounted on the axis of the cylinders. The counter balance piston is pressurized through a volume tank receiving gas through a pressure regulator from the well head. The pumping piston is powered up and down by direct pressure from the well head gas. The flow of gas to and from the pumping cylinder is controlled by a floating piston five-way valve admitting directly well head gas to drive the piston and exhausting the gas to the gas flow delivery line. Snifter valves control the floating piston five-way valve and pressure regulators positioned between the well head and the gas flow delivery line maintain operable differential pressure in the system.

    Abstract: An improved closed loop pneumatic system for driving a piston in a cylinder which employs a low pressure tank for receiving exhaust gases, a booster compressor transferring the gases to a high pressure tank which drives the piston on the up stroke. The constant interconnecting of a low pressure tank through a piston pressure equalizing the line improves the efficiency of the actuator. The larger, deep-well system utilizes an improved means for recovering and recirculating lubricating oil within the closed loop. Two species of the invention are described in this application. One primarily designed for deep wells and one designed primarily for shallow wells.
