Abstract: An intra-oral appliance, an internal member and an external member is provided. The internal member can include a tongue crib, a poseable first arm connected at a first end to the back end of the tongue crib, and a poseable second arm connected at a first end to the back end of the tongue crib. The poseable first arm and the poseable second allow the tongue crib to be moved into a position and held in the position. The external member can include a first lip retractor, a second lip retractor, a first retractor flange, a second retractor flange and connectors attachable to the first arm and the second arm of the internal member.

Abstract: A metal orthodontic mouth gag is provided, which includes an upper supporting frame, a lower supporting frame, a supporting wing of a left molar area and a supporting wing of a right molar area. The upper supporting frame is a serpentine upper bent rod which is made by a thin steel wire being sequentially wound up and down, and the lower supporting frame is a serpentine lower bent rod which is made by a thin steel wire being sequentially wound up and down. The supporting wing of the left molar area includes a left C-shaped supporting rod and a left blocking supporting frame, and the supporting wing of the right molar area includes a right C-shaped supporting rod and a right blocking supporting frame. The blocking supporting frames are connected into the corresponding C-shaped supporting rods.

Abstract: A dental tool is disclosed that includes an operational unit, a neck region and a handle region, in which the neck region is S-shaped. The operational unit can further include a tongue retractor, a flap retractor or a combination thereof. A suction mechanism may be added for eliminating fluids. The neck region may further contain a lateral bend, a rotation of the working end or both. The proximal end of the handle region, opposite the operational unit, may further include any useful apparatus, such as a periosteal elevator or periosteal retractor.

Abstract: An improved retractor device which includes a first main flat arm portion for extending along the outer surface of a patients cheek, that can be grasped by the dentist or hygienist performing the procedure; (or even in some cases, the patient); a second arm that extends into the mouth in use and is attached to the main arm at an acute angle of approximately fifty degrees and having that connecting area gently curved convexly from upper lip to lower lip and concavely from the intraoral to the extraoral portions so as to present a atraumatic surface to oral commissure, and the intraoral arm being convex as it extends to the posterior part of the mouth and getting narrower as it goes posteriorly and ending in a high convex end portion that extends behind the last tooth to reflect the cheek outwardly and posteriorly to produce an increased volume of space for conducting the dental procedure in a dry field and with greater and better comfort, access and visualization.

Abstract: A tissue retractor, for use by dental practitioners, in order to provide clear viewage of a large sector of the oral cavity. The retractor includes a unibody construction in one embodiment, which is intended for attachment to any of the numerous standard dental instrument handles, with two oblong mirrors connected by a bridge, which is static in some embodiments and retractably dynamic in some embodiments. The retractor pulls oral tissue away from the field of work and allows a dental practitioner without the assistance of a Dental assistant to have easy access to the oral workspace and eliminates the need to continually maneuver mirrored tools during procedures.

Abstract: The oral retractor is provided for retracting at least a portion of a patient's mouth. The oral retractor is formed from single, continuous closed-loop strand of stainless steel wire. The oral retractor includes a superior lip-engaging portion for retracting the patient's upper lip away from the upper teeth and gums, and an inferior lip-engaging portion for retracting the patient's lower lip away from the patient's lower teeth and gums. Bilateral arcuate cheek-engaging portions extend posteriorly from the lip-engaging portions for retracting the patient's cheeks away from the teeth and gums. The lip-engaging portions are formed from linear portions defining tented arches that extend anteriorly, and the superior lip-engaging portion may be canted upward, while the inferior lip-engaging portion may be canted downward. The cheek-engaging portions may be substantially parabolic. The retractor may be substantially symmetrical about planes bisecting the retractor vertically and horizontally.

The modules are selected from a tongue blade approximately perpendicular to the frames' plane, which is vertically displaceable with respect to said mandibular cross member; a retaining member within which said tongue blade shaft is slidably displaceable; retraction elements for urging the cheeks away from the oral cavity; abutment members for contacting the upper teeth or upper maxilla; and at least one light auxiliary located adjacent to oral cavity, adapted to illuminate the same effectively.

Abstract: Septic barriers interposed between a target tissue such as an oral or vaginal cavity, exposed epidermis, or wound or surgical site, and a user and his/her optical interrogation instruments to reduce cross-infection and/or contamination. In certain embodiments, the septic barrier is substantially transparent for viewing purposes and is typically effectively non-fluorescent, particularly when used for investigating autofluorescence or other fluorescence emanating from a target, so as to have little or no effect on the measurements and observations being made. The sepsis barrier can comprises a window through which the user sees the tissue, a frame holding the window, and an attachment structure, such as threads or bayonet attachment, configured to connect the barrier to the instrument. If desired, the system can also have an optional attachment mechanism for permanent or temporary connection of a further instrument to the frame, such as a tissue retractor configured to aid manipulation of the target tissue.

Abstract: A combined mouth retracting and saliva ejecting device has a forward suction portion, a right cheek retractor portion, a left cheek retractor portion, and a rearward suction portion, the device being configured to be placed within the mouth of a dental patient. The device is constructed of a single piece of rigid, but resilient, tubular material, the material having an elastomeric memory. The device is tubular and has a cylindrical or other shape cross section and can be constructed of material so as to be either disposable or nondisposable, the nondisposable version being capable of heat or chemical sterilization. The device can be made in almost any size to accommodate the wide variety of patients that it may be used with, including children.

Abstract: A plastic mouthpiece insert for allowing a wearer to whiten their teeth while getting a suntan, and have a generally oblong oval-rectangular opening with a curved rear end that abuts against the root surfaces of the frontal upper and lower teeth of the wearer. A raised front edge can protect the lips and separate in place about the opening to the mouthpiece. Whitening agents can be used to enhance the whitening effect so that ultraviolet light and heat source such as the sun or a sunlamp is all that it is needed. Reflective inner walls in the mouthpiece can magnify light to the teeth. The mouthpiece can include bite tables, and the side walls of the mouthpiece can be inwardly flared and funnel shaped for focusing and magnifying incoming light and heat. The mouthpiece can be colored to protect the inside of the wearer's mouth from receiving any light.

Abstract: A system and method for tooth bleaching are disclosed wherein a patient's mouth is prepped for tooth bleaching treatment, a light activated tooth bleaching composition is applied on a tooth surface to be bleached, a lamp assembly is placed in position to activate the oxidizing compound in the bleaching composition, and one or more spacer is coupled to the patient and to the lamp assembly to set a distance between the two.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved surgical retractor system useful for holding tissue away from a surgical site during a medical or dental procedure. In one embodiment, the surgical retractor system is comprised of a tubular member, such as a cannula, and a retractor member. In an embodiment, the retractor member may be ring shaped. The retractor member preferably may have an opening therethrough for receiving the cannula. An engaging member associated with the retractor member may be provided for rotatably engaging the cannula. In one embodiment, the cannula may have external threads that are releaseably engaged with the engaging member and allows the degree or amount of tissue retraction to be adjusted. The cannula may be configured to be used with and secured to a handle to facilitate using the retractor system. A method of using the retractor system is also disclosed.

Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment in accordance with the present invention, a disposable dental appliance and method of use is provided. In particular, a cheek retraction apparatus is provided, which is formed from a lightweight yet durable biocompatible polymer. The apparatus is sufficiently durable to withstand recurrent use, however, the it is economically manufactured so as to be disposable. Moreover, the apparatus is pre-sterilized to alleviate the need for autoclaving and/or dry heat sterilization. A cheek retraction apparatus in accordance with the present invention also provides an indicia display medium that allows the dental practitioner to display patient information, whitening treatment measurements, or other indicia that might be useful to them during oral photography.

Abstract: The present invention relates to aids, such as a guard 1, for use in throat and oral cavity surgical operations, such as tonsillectomies, that require a surgeon to gain access via a patient's mouth, as well a method of surgery utilising such a guard 1. The guard 1 includes a first protection member 2 having a protection surface 3 and a second protection member 4 having a protection surface 5. The protection members 2 and 4 are connected by means of a spine 6. The spine portion 6 being integrally formed with the protection members 2 and 4 provides sufficient elasticity to enable the clamping ends 7 and 8 of members 2 and 3 respectively, to engage the inside and outside surfaces of a patient's mouth region to thereby reasonably attach the guard 1 to a side of a patient's mouth.
