  • Patent number: 7887483
Abstract: The present invention discloses a safe surgical mouth gag (MG) having a substantially planar frame larger than the maximal mouth aperture which is defined by at least two cross members, i.e., a longitudinal maxillary cross member and a mandibular cross member and by at least one rod connecting said maxillary and said mandibular cross members; and modules maneuverably interconnected to the same. The modules are selected from a tongue blade approximately perpendicular to the frames' plane, which is vertically displaceable with respect to said mandibular cross member; a retaining member within which said tongue blade shaft is slidably displaceable; retraction elements for urging the cheeks away from the oral cavity; abutment members for contacting the upper teeth or upper maxilla; and at least one light auxiliary located adjacent to oral cavity, adapted to illuminate the same effectively.

  • Patent number: 6436034
Abstract: Disclosed is an intrabuccal stretcher having essentially a supporting bar and a pushing part formed at each distal end of the supporting bar; the pushing parts having such a thickness and such a roundish shape as are suitable for pushing internal sides of buccae; the supporting bar being bent symmetrically with respect to the vertical axis; the pushing parts being extended outward from the distal ends of the supporting bar; wherein the pushing par-n are inserted into an oral cavity with the supporting bar remaining partly outside the oral cavity to push and simulate internal sides of the buccae.

  • Patent number: 6234962
Abstract: A one-piece equine dental speculum having an open frame, extending from one side of a horse's mouth, across in front of the incisors to the opposite side of the mouth. Bite plates are affixed at the front of the speculum to engage the incisors when the speculum is fully inserted. Two V-shaped projections extending rearward from each end of the bite plates act as wedges to engage the incisors and force them towards the upper and lower bite plates, forcing the jaws apart. Simply, insertion requires placing the speculum frame around the horse's mouth, placing the V-shaped projections between the upper and lower incisors and pushing until the incisors are “walked” along the upper and lower surfaces of the V-shaped projections to open the jaws. Once fully inserted, the incisors are held in place at the bite plates preventing the jaws from closing. Nose and head straps hold the speculum in place in the horse's mouth.

  • Patent number: 5842974
Abstract: A speculum (20) for obtaining visual access to the inside of an animal's (500) mouth includes a body (22), and handle (28) and two spaced loop-shaped members (30) and (32). Loop-shaped members (30) and (32) have arcuate ends (34) and (36) which individually or in unison may be hooked around the last jaw teeth (502) through (505), while speculum (20) is selectively manipulated by handle (28) to allow visual access to the animal's (500) teeth (501), tongue (506), cheeks (507) and (508), and soft mouth tissue (509). Speculum (20) is fabricated from a rod-like material to ensure maximum visibility by the using veterinarian.

  • Patent number: 5772581
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a penlight laryngoscope which is particularly useful by veterinarians in the examination of many animals. It finds use in long nosed animals as well as smaller animals such as squirrels, rabbits and other small species. The penlight is removable from the instrument permitting autoclave sterilization. The instrument includes a barrel portion for receiving the light source, a middle blade portion which has a concave surface and a flat terminal end portion. The concave portion provides a reflective surface to illuminate the area under examination and also adds strength to the blade. The flat terminal end has tapered sides which permit the pushing aside of the cheeks of small animals for examining their molars. The penlight laryngoscope also finds use in the examination of humans.

  • Patent number: 5722936
Abstract: A veterinary oral speculum for use with a bird is a rod having a cut away portion formed in a first longitudinal surface near one end of the rod and defining a handle at the opposite end of the rod. A slotted hole is formed in an opposite second longitudinal surface of the rod. The slotted hole and the cut-away portion are opposed to and communicate with one another and form a through opening in the rod. The speculum is inserted between the mandibles of the bird, rotated through 90.degree. and slid within the mouth of the bird so that the slotted hole is oriented inwardly toward the bird, the cut away portion is oriented outwardly from the bird and the through opening is oriented between the mandibles as a window such that oral access to the bird is gained by the through opening.

  • Patent number: 5718665
Abstract: A speculum (20) for opening the jaws of animals (500) includes first (22) and second (30) arms connected by a threaded rod (38). By rotating threaded rod (38), the distance (D) between first (22) and second (30) arms may be selective adjusted. First (22) and second (30) arms have first (28) and second (36) jaw plates respectively, which forcibly open the jaws (502) and (506) of the animal (500). A tension-producing means (100) holds speculum (20) in place in the animal's (500) mouth.
