Patent number: 11672689Abstract: System, devices, and methods for correcting ingrown nails are disclosed. A system includes a first anchor and a second anchor configured to be coupled to opposing sides of an ingrown nail of an end user. A first brace and a second brace are configured to be removably coupled to respective ones of the first and second anchors. An elastic loop is secured between the protrusions of the braces to apply continuous tension to the braces. The tension is distributed to the nail through the anchors to which the braces are coupled. The amount of tension applied to the nail can be selected by selecting different elastic loops to attach to the braces. The tension provided by the elastic loops corrects the ingrown nail over time without pain to the user.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2019Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Inventor: Jordan Schweitzer

Patent number: 6050966Abstract: A nail straightener, for use on a toenail or fingernail having a nail surface, a nail edge, and located atop a nail bed, comprising a pair of rails extending along the nail surface. The rails each have a hook portion which extends over the nail edge and extends partially beneath the nail, between the nail and nail bed to prevent the nail edge from growing into the nail bed as the nail grows. A bridge connects the rails, and has an adhesive for allowing the nail straightener to be selectively secured to the nail surface, removed and repositioned thereon as the nail grows, and then re-adhered to the nail surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1999Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Inventor: William A. Patent number: 5370140Abstract: A side guard protection device and method for treating ingrown nails includes a plastic, flattened U-shaped channel member received down the side edge of the nail. One arm of the guard extends under the ingrown edge of the nail and the other arm of the guard lies across the upper surface of the nail, with the two arms joined at a curved section which fits snugly around the edge of the nail. The side guard is applied to one or both edges of an ingrown nail with the use of an adhesive and catalyst for instantly bonding the guard to the nail, and the adhesive is used to provide a smooth level surface over the top of the nail. The side guard directs the nail to grow straight, and the guard advances with and may be trimmed with the nail as it grows.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1993Date of Patent: December 6, 1994Inventor: John Meyerovich

Patent number: 5318508Abstract: A multi-part nail corrective brace for treating an ingrown toe- or fingernail has a brace part and a bridging piece. The brace part has a pair of hooks that are installed under the left and right edges of the nail to be treated. In application, the bridging piece is joined to the brace part by joining loops or indentations. Tension is applied to lever the nail up so that it is no longer ingrown. The joining loops or indentations can be in the form of discs, which can be cut out to enhance their elasticity. These discs may be injection-molded of plastic or rubber.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Inventors: Elvira Osthold, Hede Wittmann

Patent number: 5261872Abstract: An appliance and method for correcting ingrown toenails. A thin, flat resilient strip is conformed to the shape of the toenail and adhesively attached to the toenail with a suitable adhesive. The strip extends to within one-eighth inch of either opposite side of the toenail, and when so applied, tends to bend resiliently bend back to its original flat shape. The corresponding torque effect created on the toenail is sufficient to cause the affected ingrown toenail to grow out into a naturally correct position. The strip may be of a heat-sensitive material which is more pliable when heat is applied, and which resumes a greater degree of rigidity when the heat is dissipated. Bevelling of the edges around the outer perimeter of the strip smooths the transition of the strip into the surface of the toenail for aesthetic purposes.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1992Date of Patent: November 16, 1993Inventor: Zana S.
