Abstract: Disclosed are a joint manipulation device and system for increasing the range of motion of a joint of a user, and monitoring the compliance of the user's operation of the joint manipulation device to standards or guidelines set by a monitoring entity. Certain sensors associated with the joint manipulation device may cause an indicator to transmit an alert to the user based on whether or not the device is sufficiently engaged with a limb or joint of the user to be considered in compliance. Additionally, progress data associated with the range of motion of the user's joint may be obtained by a sensor assembly and transmitted to one or more systems associated with the device system. Progress data obtained during a period of non-compliant use of the device may be excluded from the transmitted data, thereby generating a set of compliant progress data for accurate analysis of device effectiveness.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods of correction of spinal deformity that overcome current limitations by utilizing a dynamic, multi-segment torso orthosis that allows motion during wear. The disclosed embodiments utilize a series of elastically coupled segments that conform to the circumference of the torso of a patient. Adjustable elastic coupling mechanisms are utilized to create and alter forces and moments that are applied to the torso through the segments. These elastic coupling mechanisms also allow each circumferential segment to move relative to the other segments giving the brace dynamic capability.

Abstract: A joint mobilization apparatus includes a pulling unit and a power unit. The pulling unit includes a wearable member set for mounting on the patient's joint part, and a rope set connected to the wearable member set. The power unit provides power of reciprocatingly pulling the rope set, and includes a shell member, a motor, and a reciprocation mechanism connected to the motor and the rope set. The reciprocation mechanism is driven by the motor to reciprocate relative to the shell member, so as to pull the rope set to reciprocate the wearable member set and patient's joint part. By using the power unit to drive the pulling unit to pull reciprocatingly for mobilizing the patient's joint part, instead of the therapist's treatment, the therapist's burden in physical strength can be reduced. Furthermore, the joint mobilization apparatus can provide the user to execute various muscle training modes.

The structure preferably includes a series of bladders that cooperate to define a cavity for accepting the therapeutic pack on an inside surface for thermal exchange with the neck of a user.

  • Patent number: 8944065
Abstract: A method includes placing a patient's foot in a boot comprising a cam buckle, a pad, and a retention strap. The retention strap is placed over the top of the foot, and the pad is arranged relative to the top of the foot. Pressing on the pad positions the foot within the boot. While pressing on the pad, tension is applied on the retention strap to advance the retention strap through the cam buckle. The cam buckle is configured to automatically limit movement of the retention strap through the cam buckle when tension on the retention strap is released. Tension on the retention strap is released to cause the cam buckle to impede the retention strap from receding through the cam buckle.

Abstract: Therapeutic abduction of the shoulder joint is achieved using a hinged device, the hinge activated by a cable passed between pulleys to increase mechanical advantage. The cable is wound on a spool mounted on a ratcheting mechanism, whereby tension is maintained as the spool is wound via a knob or computer controlled motor. A rotation control device enables rotation of the spool by a user, but prevents rotation due to a load. Mating shackles pivot in connection with the hinge, and are activated by the cable to increase the angle of the hinge. The hinge is connected to the body, one portion affixed relative to the body, the other affixed relative to the upper arm. As the hinge angle is expanded, the shoulder joint is abducted, stretching the tissue of the joint. If resilient, the cable imparts a dynamic tensioning force to the shoulder joint.

Abstract: A brace and traction device and associated methods of operation. In one embodiment, the device incorporates a forwardly open head and jaw brace which is adjustably supported vertically above a forwardly collar member. The brace and the collar member are adapted such that the brace is able to mate with the collar member while still being able to rotate to the subject's left and right while remaining planar to the collar member. Adjustment may be accomplished for example manually or via an electronic motor controlled by a control mechanism and microprocessor. The microprocessor may be adapted to store information regarding a user's sessions, and facilitate communication with patient and physician personal devices, thus sending these data from recorded sessions. The processor element may also be adapted to implement therapy sessions based on physician-entered program specifications, or based on pre-programmed specifications.

  • Patent number: 8845569
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed for achieving control and stabilization of bone fractures in mammals, most specifically humans. Stabilization and traction is often required to support fractured bones of the arms or legs. The devices and methods disclosed herein are especially useful in the emergency or military setting. The devices utilize a collapsible, inflatable member that is expanded and locked into position. The frame or inflatable member is fabricated primarily from polymeric materials with low radiodensity. The limb contact regions are adjustable to fit a wide variety of limb sizes and fracture locations. The traction applied by the splint is adjustable, controllable and measurable. The traction splint is compact and will fit in a compartment of most emergency rescue vehicles, thus making it more available for use than standard traction splints used today. The traction splint is either a separate device or integrated into a backboard.

Abstract: The portable cervical traction device includes a brace having at least a pair of shoulder hooks configured to be worn over the shoulders and on the back of a user. A traction control mechanism is attached to the brace and includes an L-shaped traction bar. A plurality of hooks is attached to the traction bar, and a head sling can be attached to selected hooks for comfortable and proper support of the user's head. The traction control mechanism selectively raises or lowers the traction bar to apply the desired traction on the user. Since the brace is portable, the portable cervical traction device provides greater mobility for the user while maintaining proper traction. The degree of traction can be easily adjusted to account for the degree of recovery of the user.
