Sling Patents (Class 602/4)
  • Patent number: 5290218
Abstract: This invention pertains to a shoulder restraint having a series of pockets therein that is wrapped around the user's shoulder to apply hot or cold packs to the affected area. This restraint comprises a main body portion and two extensions, one short and one long, extending from the same side of the main body portion. Each extension is secured to the main body portion (after being wrapped around the user's body part) by closure means that comprise the "hook" portion of a typical hook and loop closure system. The pockets are closed in a similar manner to retain the hot or cold packs therein, and to provide a means to remove and/or replace these packs without the need to remove the restraint.

  • Patent number: 5203763
Abstract: A dynamic sling provides a patient with therapeutic movement including joint approximation and proprioceptive input for an affected extremity joint, such as an arm and shoulder joint. The dynamic sling includes a first cuff for attachment to a patient's non-affected arm adjacent, or spaced from the shoulder along the humerus between the elbow joint and the shoulder joint. A second cuff is provided for attachment to the patient's affected arm adjacent the affected joint or spaced from the joint along the humerus between the elbow joint and the shoulder joint. An attachment member connects the first and second cuffs to one another crossing over the shoulder adjacent the affected joint. The attachment member connects adjacent to the rear of the non-affected arm and connects adjacent to the front of the affected arm.

  • Patent number: 5163450
Abstract: The harness includes a torso engaging device made of nylon strips conformed in a figure eight pattern; the arms of the wearer extending through the loops. An arm cuff is also provided which engages about the upper arm of the wearer and is connected to the torso engaging device by means of rubber tubings which act to limit range of motion of the arm. Also, to keep the torso engaging device from riding up around the arms of the wearer, further rubber tubings engage a lower torso strip section to clips engaged to the harness wearer's belt. The harness can be used for either arm, or both arms, as desired. Also, with simple modifications, the harness could be used to control range of motion of other joints as well.

  • Patent number: 5141488
Abstract: A sling device is disclosed for securing to a waistband of a user. The sling device extends over the left and right shoulders of the user for supporting an arm of the user. The device includes a first and second strap extending over the left and right shoulder of the user respectively. Each of the straps has a first and a second end. Front and further front fasteners are connected to the first end of the first and second straps respectively for fastening the first ends of the straps to the waistband. Rear and further fasteners are connected to the second ends of the first and second straps respectively for fastening the second ends to the waistband. A first and second portion each having a first and second extremity are secured at the first extremities to the first and second straps respectively between the front and further front fasteners and the left and right shoulders respectively of the user.

  • Patent number: 5139475
Abstract: A medical appliance worn about a patient's lower leg for treating venous insufficiency of the leg includes foot and leg portions having a hollow interior area extending therebetween for inflation into conformity with the patient's leg. When the patient is at rest, internal air pressure causes the stocking to function as an elastic stocking, but when the patient stands and walks, the force placed on the foot forces inflating air from the foot portion into the leg portion to increase the compressive action in the nature of a compression boot.

  • Patent number: 5095894
Abstract: An improved orthopedic upper extremity stabilizing device (20) applied as a positioning aid for supporting, restraining and/or immobilizing the limbs or joints of a human's upper extremity by means of a lightweight, formable, enveloping torso-covering device (22) with extremity stabilizing devices (26) that restrict movement during pre-hospital emergency care and transport, definitive care, medical procedures, and/or the recuperation and natural healing periods. The torso-covering device (22) and extremity stabilizing devices (26) are each of single assemblage comprised of one-quarter inch thick open-cell foam flame laminated to engageable-loop material. The torso-covering device is closed with detachable engageable-hook closure straps (24). The extremity stabilizing devices (26) are applied to the torso-covering device by engageable-hook tape strips that are attached to the longitudinal edges of one planter surface of each device.

  • Patent number: 5086762
Abstract: Typing brace apparatus includes a rigid yoke having an upper pair of yoke arms, each yoke arm having a forward end; a leg of the yoke depending downwardly from an intersection of the yoke arms; padding affixed to an inner surface of the yoke; and a pair of straps depending downwardly from the forward end of each yoke arm. A first step of each of the two strap pairs is an elbow strap having an elbow cup at a distal end of the elbow strap and a second strap is a wrist strap having a first human wrist engaging-loop at a distal end of the wrist strap. Buckle for adjusting the length of the straps are included. In one preferred embodiment a waist band for encircling a human waist is operably connected to the yoke leg for stabilizing the yoke leg with respect to the two pairs of straps and the trunk or waist of the typist's body. In a second preferred embodiment, a bracket for attaching the yoke leg to a chair is connected to the yoke leg, again for stabilizing the yoke leg with respect to the two pairs of straps.
