  • Patent number: 11497684
Abstract: A medicinal vial reconstitution and IV dispensing device includes a bifurcated receptacle adapted to engage a medicinal vial, and a valve or barrier for selectively opening and closing the medicinal vial from fluidic communication with the patient IV line. The reconstitution device mixes medication with saline solution from an IV bag through a dedicated channel. The reconstitution device receives a medication vial containing the powdered medication. The reconstituted medication is then passed back into the IV bag for uniform mixing. A flow control element ensures fluid flow only from the vial to the bag. Once mixed, the reconstituted medication achieves a desired concentration in the IV bag. The (now medicated) saline solution in the IV bag is dispensed back through the reconstitution device via an IV line to the patient, and the flow control element redirects fluid only to the IV line and prevents any backflow with the vial.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides aseptic vial piercing and sterilization systems, and methods of assembling, using and sterilizing same. The systems and methods utilize a pre-sterilized primary container including a first end, a first cavity, a second end with an opening in communication with the first cavity, a septum at least partially sealing the opening, and a product within the first cavity. The systems and methods include an injection assembly including a first end portion of a hollow flowpath forming member. The injection assembly and the primary container may be assembled in a non-sterile environment to form a second cavity extending about the first end portion of the flowpath forming member and to the primary container. The second cavity may then be selectively sterilized in a non-deleterious manner to the product to allow the first end portion to aseptically pierce the septum to extend into the first cavity.

  • Patent number: 9717887
Abstract: A catheter assembly includes a catheter hub and an introducer needle. The introducer needle extends through the catheter hub and through a catheter tube so as to assist placement of the catheter tube into a patient's blood vessel. Blood flashback into the catheter tube and/or catheter hub can indicate when the catheter tube is properly positioned within the blood vessel. After proper catheter tube placement is confirmed through blood flashback, the introducer needle is withdrawn. A septum blocks flashback blood from flowing proximally out of the catheter hub. One or more air vents enable air within the hub to vent when flashback blood enters the catheter hub. A porous hydrophobic material covers the one or more air vents. The hydrophobic material allows the air to flow therethrough and through the vents, but repels blood, blocking blood from flowing through the air vents.
