  • Patent number: 9636230
Abstract: An interbody fusion implant fits between adjacent vertebrae for fixation during fusion thereof. Upper bores extend into a cephalid surface of the implant and preferably include threads therein. A guide tool is removably attachable to the implant which supports guide bores along centerlines aligned with the upper bores in the implant. A drill can pass along these guide bores to form holes in a vertebra adjacent the cephalid surface of the implant which is precisely aligned with the upper bores. A hybrid screw then passes through these holes in the vertebra adjacent the cephalid surface and threads into the upper bores to secure the implant to the adjacent cephalid vertebra. Bone screws can also be used to secure the implant to caudal vertebra by passing through bores passing through the implant, such that the implant is securely mechanically fastened to both cephalid and caudal vertebrae adjacent the implant.

  • Patent number: 9622798
Abstract: A device and method of stabilizing a fracture of a bone is provided. The device includes an intramedullary rod having a shaped distal end, and an insertion jig detachably connectable to the proximal end of the rod and used with the rod to apply a compressive force to the fracture site. The jig may also be used to correctly place fixation screws in a proximal end of the rod. The device achieves both fixation of the rod to the bone regardless of rod or bone diameter and allows for compression at the fracture site. In addition, fixation of the rod to the bone is accomplished without requiring a precise alignment of a distal end fixation screw. The device uses headless fixation screws, which, when in place, are disposed below cortical surface of bone, reducing damage to overlying soft tissues.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are provided for gauging a bone tunnel. In one exemplary embodiment, a graft repair system can include an elongate pin, an elongate pusher shaft configured to be positioned over one opposed end of the pin when the pin is positioned within a bone tunnel, and a gauge member configured to be positioned over another opposed end of the pin when the pin is positioned within the bone tunnel. When the pusher shaft abuts the bone adjacent one of the open ends of the bone tunnel and the gauge member abuts the bone adjacent the other open end of the bone tunnel, an indicator mark on the pin can be visible through one or more windows formed in the gauge member. The indicator mark's position relative to each of the one or more windows can indicate one or more characteristics related to the bone tunnel.

  • Patent number: 9205227
Abstract: A remotely controlled insertion system for a medical device is described. The system comprises a robotic device and a remote control mechanism. The robotic device has a handle controller to receive and hold the control handle or proximal end of a medical device. The medical device is capable of moving in up to six ranges of motion. In one embodiment a first motor is connected through a drive screw to a handle controller to move the medical device forward and backward. A second motor is connected to drive wheels effective to rotate the medical device clockwise and counter-clockwise. A third motor drives a series of gears that are connected to one or more control members on the medical device, this being effective to deflect a tip of the medical device so that movement of the third motor causes such deflection. A control unit is connected to all three motors.
