  • Patent number: 8414595
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods are disclosed for an orthopedic cast remover. The cast remover includes a rotatable cutting assembly having first and second cutting wheel sandwiched between a smaller-sized hub, where the space between the first and second wheel defines a passage in which fractured material may pass. A shear is coupled to the cutting assembly and is positioned in the passage, where edges of the shear are configured to engage with each of the cutting wheels. During operation, rigid material, such as a cast shell, passes along a top surface of the shear and is fractured into a predetermined width at a point where the shear edges engage with the rotating cutting wheels. The fractured material is fed into the passage for easy removal.

  • Publication number: 20100256650
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cast cutter that has upper and lower cutting blade portions each having opposing cutting blades formed at either side of the upper and lower portions thereof in such a way that the opposing cutting blades of the upper cutting blade portion and the opposing cutting blades of the lower cutting blade portion are operated cooperatively with each other, such that the upper and lower cutting blade portions perform a cutting operation, while forming a cutting range of a predetermined width, thereby minimizing a cutting load generated when cutting a cast to make the cutting operation simplified, and thereby having no limitation on a cutting length to provide an excellent cutting efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6558394
Abstract: A surgical cast cutter for removing orthopedic bandages of a hard casting material type comprises a first shank (2a), cutting portion (2b), and second shank (2c); a first housing (1) having a built-in rotating device which rotates the cutting tool; a tool holding device which rotatably holds the cutting tool (2); a second housing (15) which receives the cutting tool (2) and having an integrated horseshoe-shaped protrusion which is inserted between the hard cover and affected area as a guide such that the hard cover may be easily cut; and a hood (50) which is coupled to the second housing (15) and movable in the up and down direction. The hood also serves as a collecting device for collecting dusts and debris formed from the removal of the cast. A method is also disclosed for applying the cast on an affected area such that it may be easily removed by the cast cutter.

  • Publication number: 20030065334
Abstract: A cast removal device having a blade assembly driven by a cordless tool is provided. Mirror image opposing first and second blade members having cutting edges along a lower inner edge thereof are disposed in parallel with a third blade member sandwiched in between. Each of the first and second blade members has a first planar surface and a second planar surface, a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge, first and second ends, and an opening disposed proximal to a midpoint. The third blade member has a first planar surface and a second planar surface, a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge, first and second ends, and a pivot point disposed proximal to a midpoint thereof. Means for rotatably connecting the first, second and third blade members at the pivot points thereof are provided as well as means for securing the first and second blade members together to prevent rotation with respect to one another.
