Patent number: 11607255Abstract: A surgical guidance system (SGS) for performing a cruciate pivot osteotomy in canines to treat cranial cruciate ligament disease. The SGS comprises a guide, a jig, and a plate. The guide is first placed over the tibia until it interacts with specific anatomical features of the tibia, thereby marking the proper position for the jig to be placed. After the jig has been secured, a blade defines an osteotomy within a proximal portion of the tibia. A portion of the jig is then cranially rotated providing a rotational correction of the proximal tibia. A compressive force is then applied to the osteotomy by the jig. Next the multiplane locking plate is placed over the osteotomy as dictated by the features of the jig. After initially securing the plate into its correct position, the jig is removed and the plate is then secured to the cranial surface of the tibia.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2019Date of Patent: March 21, 2023Inventors: Randall Fitch, Robert Von Zabern

The resonant frequency is measured at a point during the frequency sweep where the impedance of the hand piece is at its minimum. The anti-resonant frequency is measured at a point during the frequency sweep where the impedance of the hand piece is at its maximum. Using a target or specific output displacement, a drive current is calculated based on the phase margin which is the difference between the resonant frequency and the anti-resonant frequency. The hand piece is caused to be driven with the output displacement, by accordingly controlling the current output from a generator console for driving the hand piece.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2001Date of Patent: January 13, 2004Assignee: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.Inventors: Eitan T. Patent number: 6656186Abstract: A bone saw blade includes a blade body having a cutting section, a hub section and a shank located between the cutting section and the hub section. The blade body is first formed having a substantially uniform Rockwell hardness between approximately Rc 49 and Rc 63 throughout. Next, a cathodic arc process is used to coat the cutting section with a hard, wear-resistant metal nitride coating. During the coating process, ion impingement on the surface of the cutting section creates heat that beneficially anneals the cutting section. Significant annealing of the shank and hub section is prevented during the coating process by stacking the blade bodies together with blade blanks that are formed without cutting sections. The heat generated during coating is insufficient to raise the temperature of the large mass above the annealing temperature of the blade material. The resultant blade has a high strength shank and hub section.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2002Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Molecular Metallurgy, Inc.Inventor: Nathan K. Meckel

Patent number: 6540760Abstract: A blade and a blade assembly wherein the blade has a front, beveled, sharpened edge, two side edges meeting at a point spaced from the front edge and at least one attachment structure extending outwardly from each side edge. A blade holder, which extends beyond the side edges and attachment structures of the blade, sits on a top surface of the blade and is attached to the blade by a portion thereof which receives the attachment structures. The holder has an opening in an exposed surface to receive an extension from a drive mechanism such that when the drive mechanism is activated the blade is caused to vibrate or oscillate. The blade is oscillated in a lateral fashion when driven by a rod rotating along a circular path.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Oasis Medical, Inc.Inventors: Robert Austring, William Hagel, Michael J. Publication number: 20020198556Abstract: A connector assembly for connecting a surgical saw blade to a housing of a surgical instrument. The connector assembly allows a surgeon to align, insert and lock the surgical blade in the collet of the surgical instrument without any special tools, and further provides a stable and robust platform for mounting the surgical saw blade thereto. The connector assembly includes a cam lever assembly for allowing the user to apply a clamping force to the surgical saw blade with minimum actuation force.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2001Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventors: Timmon Ark, Daniel L. Patent number: 6129731Abstract: A surgical instrument is provided for cutting a cranial disc from a skull cap. A cylindrical trepanning cutter is provided with teeth on its frontal edge. The teeth cut in both peripheral directions. A driving means drives the trepanning cutter with a periodically altering direction of rotation through an angle of rotation of substantially less than 360.degree.. The angle is at least large enough for the teeth to be displaced by one tooth spacing along the frontal edge of the cylindrical trepanning cutter.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1998Date of Patent: October 10, 2000Assignee: Aesculap AG & Co.
