Abstract: A spinal implant comprises a wall extending between a first end and a second end and defining a longitudinal axis. The wall has a first surface and a second surface configured to engage tissue. The wall defines at least one opening configured for disposal of a bone fastener. The first end includes an inner surface comprising a first linear side and a second linear side. The linear sides are disposed in substantial alignment with the axis. The inner surface further comprises an arcuate side connected to the linear sides to define a cavity configured for disposal of a fastener. Systems and methods are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8968369
Abstract: A spine plate defines a body having a posterior surface or side and an anterior surface or side. The body also has a pair of bone screw bores for each vertebra to which the spine plate will be attached. The bone screw bores extend between the posterior side and the anterior side. A relief area is provided between each pair of bone screw bores in the anterior surface of the body. The relief area opens to both bone screw bores to allow displacement of the bone screw when entering the respective bone screw bore. The relief area also opens to both bone screw bores to permit an instrument to be received therein to remove a bone screw from one of the bone screw bores.

  • Patent number: 8968370
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide methods, apparatuses, and systems for fixing dens fractures. The mode of failure for screw fixation of C2 dens fractures is often via cut-out at the anterior body. In an embodiment, securing a plate, such as a locking plate, to the anterior surface of the vertebra attached directly to an interfragmentary screw may reduce potential for anterior screw cut-out and improve construct strength. Plate supplementation of anterior screw fixation of Type II dens fractures thus improves construct strength and changes the failure mechanism from anterior screw cut-out to posterior displacement of the screw, thus improving clinical outcomes for these fractures.

  • Patent number: 8956393
Abstract: Systems for repairing acetabulum fractures can include a bone plate that has openings therein and one or more bolts sized to fit through the openings. The bone plate can cooperate with the head portions of the bolts to prevent them from spinning within the holes as screws are attached to the bolts. Such arrangements can assist in reverse implantation methods in which the bone plate is introduced into the true pelvis of a patient.

  • Patent number: 8945191
Abstract: A spinal fixation device for securing to a spine includes a body having one or more longitudinal members extending between a pair of wedge members. Each wedge member defines one or more openings therethrough for the reception of a bone screw. The wedge members are disposed on opposite ends of the one or more longitudinal members. One of the wedge members is positionable within a first intervertebral space and the other wedge member is positionable within a second intervertebral space. The one or more longitudinal members define a length that spans one or more vertebrae. The one or more longitudinal members are positionable within the one or more vertebrae when the wedge members are positioned within the respective first and second intervertebral spaces to maintain the body in a minimal profile orientation relative to the spine.

Abstract: A bone fixation system includes a bone plate, bone anchors, temporary fixation members, and forceps. The temporary fixation members are configured to be inserted through apertures in the bone plate and into underlying bone segments that are separated by a bone gap. The forceps are configured to apply a force to the temporary fixation members that causes at least one of the underlying bone segments to translate with respect to the other bone segment, thereby reducing or distracting the bone segments without interfering with final fixation by screws of bone segments.
