    Abstract: Disclosed is a self-contained, rapid cooling device that retains heat produced from the cooling process and can be stored for indefinite periods without loosing its cooling potential. A liquid in a first chamber undergoes a change of phase into vapor, which cools the first chamber. A sorbent in a second chamber is in fluid communication with the vapor and removes the vapor from the first chamber. The cooling process is facilitated by lining the interior surface of the first chamber with a wicking material to retain the largest possible contact between the liquid and the first chamber as the level of the liquid lowers during the vaporization process. A phase separator prevents unvaporized liquid from passing into the second chamber. The device is self-contained because a material in contact with the sorbent removes the heat from the sorbent to prevent the reduction in the cooling effect produced by the first chamber.

    Abstract: The system includes a container and a door therefor, each comprised of inner and outer shells made of a moisture impervious material having sealed therebetween an insulating material. A holding plate, containing a eutectic solution and a refrigerant evaporator coil, is disposed within the container. A refrigerating circuit is provided including a compressor and condenser coil connected to the evaporator coil. A control unit monitors the eutectic solution temperature and the refrigerant temperature at the compressor output. It minimizes the operating times of the compressor and condenser fan necessary to maintain preferred temperatures inside the container in order to minimize the drain on batteries which are provided for powering the same. In addition, an array of solar cells is provided and the control is adapted for powering the compressor and condenser fan with their output when it is above the predetermined minimum operating level.

A partition separates the cooler multi-levels and consists of a wire grill slidably received within grooves defined in the receptacle side walls. Block ice may be located within the upper cooler level and a refrigeration system evaporator may also be placed therein, and the cooler construction permits a relatively large size cooler capacity in a concise configuration particularly adaptable to the vehicle interior configuration.

    Abstract: An ice cube freezing arrangement in an absorption type refrigerator having conduit means conducting hot vapors from a vapor conduit leading from the boiler system to the ice dividing walls and tray for ice cubes. The vapor conduit is normally blocked but opened occasionally in order to release the ice cubes from the tray. Thus, ice cubes are manufactured with relatively small energy consumption. The control system for ice freezing is completely internal in the refrigerator, which controls the ice making, ice releasing, and the water supply to the ice making device.

The heat exchange coils, coupled through a quick connect/disconnect means to the refrigerant of an automobile refrigeration system, circulate chilled refrigerant to chill and freeze the eutectic fluid within the sealed cavity and cool the interior space of the cooling chest.
