  • Patent number: 10408524
Abstract: A refrigerator appliance having a temperature controlled drawer with improved temperature control is provided. A sealed system including a compressor, an evaporator, and an evaporator fan may be configured for cooling the fresh food chamber. A controller is configured to operate the evaporator fan when the compressor is off in order to increase the temperature of the temperature controlled drawer. Additionally, or alternatively, a secondary fan may be attached to the temperature controlled drawer and may be selectively operated by the controller to circulate air from the chilled chamber through the temperature controlled drawer. In this manner, the temperature of the temperature controlled drawer may be more precisely controlled regardless of whether the compressor is running.

  • Patent number: 10113758
Abstract: Systems and methods for evaporatively cooling air wherein a cooling system enclosure is alternately expandable and contractible. The housing is expandable for operation and contractible for storage or transportation. A water distribution subsystem delivers water from a reservoir to evaporative media within the enclosure. Air is circulated over the evaporative media to cool the air. The enclosure may be expanded by creating a positive pressure differential between the interior and exterior of the enclosure. The water distribution subsystem and evaporative media may be configured to move from storage to operating positions within the enclosure as the enclosure moves from the contracted position to the expanded position. The enclosure may include substantially rigid portions that form a protective housing for the internal cooling components when in the contracted storage position. Wheels and stowable handles may facilitate transportation of the system.

Abstract: Apparatus that primarily includes a narrow tube, through which a gas, preferably air, is forced to flow at a substantially high axial velocity. The gas, which must accelerate to reach that velocity and consequently becomes substantially cooler than the environment, then dissipates heat, through the wall of the tube from whatever is in thermal communication with that wall and thus refrigerates it. The gas does not undergo a change of phase. Preferably the tube forms the middle segment of a continuous tri-segment duct, through which the gas flows; the other two segments have each a tapered passageway, whose diameter varies between that of the tube and a considerably larger diameter at the corresponding end of the duct.

Abstract: Apparatus and methodologies are provided to improve the refrigeration system by precisely controlling refrigerator compartment and heat exchanger temperatures through continuous modulation of device speeds or positions to match capacity with instantaneous load. A controller in a refrigerator is configured to provide a plurality of control loops to control various operational aspects of selected components in the refrigerator. A first loop controls the operating speed of a compressor based on temperature of the evaporator or based on the desired speed of an evaporator fan. A second control loop controls speed of an evaporator fan to maintain a prescribed freezer compartment temperature. A third control loop maintains a prescribed temperature in a fresh food compartment. In certain embodiments selected of the control loops may be thermodynamically coupled by way of thermal interaction between the various cooled compartments rather than being electrically coupled.

Abstract: A system for decreasing the response time of a vehicle heating ventilation and air conditioning (“HVAC”) system is described. A fan circulates air through a HVAC casing. Circulating air through the HVAC casing creates a high-pressure zone within the HVAC casing. A thermal expansion valve is located outside of the HVAC casing. An outlet port is located on the HVAC casing to allow air to be ported from the high-pressure zone toward the thermal expansion valve. Air ported from the high-pressure zone may be directed toward the thermal expansion valve by a nozzle. The air increases the temperature of the thermal expansion valve and allows additional refrigerant to flow through the thermal expansion valve.
