Abstract: A chest insert for a freezer is disclosed. The chest insert is placed inside a freezer and food is placed inside the chest insert. Several sides of the chest insert comprise a gap which is partially filled with a refrigerant gel. These gaps are slanted such that the gel can expand into a wider gap as it expands while freezing, lessening the risk of uneven freezing causing the refrigerant gel to press against the walls of the chest insert. The use of the disclosed subject matter reduces freezer burn by stabilizing humidity. Further, the chest insert maintains the temperature inside the chest insert for extended periods if the freezer fails or the power to the freezer is interrupted.

Abstract: A cooling article of clothing and method for use of the same are disclosed for providing temporary cooling comfort to a human wearer. In one embodiment, sealed elongated envelopes are formed on the inside of a layer of the fabric, which may be fashioned into a vest or shirt. Each of the sealed elongated envelopes defines a volume for containing a pre-determined amount of polyacrylamide material. Offset spacings are interleaved between the sealed elongated envelopes. A diffusion gradient is formed from the polyacrylamide material to the sealed elongated envelopes to the layer of fabric. A diffusion gradient provides for the transfer of water from the polyacrylamide material to the layer of fabric. Water within the layer of fabric is evaporated by way of airflow through the layer of fabric, thereby providing temporary cooling comfort to the human wearer.

  • Patent number: 8347781
Abstract: A food cooling device includes a cover, an electric motor powering a fan, and an automatic switch. The cover defines air intake openings beneath a motor housing, a bottom orifice, and vents between the air intake openings and the orifice. The bottom opening rests on a table, covering a plate containing hot food. A fan blade directs air toward the food, the air cools the food, and the heated air escapes through the vents. The cooling device is portable, light in weight, and easy to operate, making it suitable for use by small children as well as handicapped persons of all ages.

  • Patent number: 8336729
Abstract: A thermal barrier liner is preferably spray coated onto the internal surface of a container. The liner is provided in embodiments including a closed cell substrate, a base layer having gas or liquid filled microcapsules, a base layer having microencapsulated solid-liquid phase change material, or combinations thereof. For the closed cell substrate embodiment, when the liner is under pressure within the container prior to the container being opened, the liner maintains a minimum thickness. When the container is opened and as pressure is released within the container, the liner expands to achieve equilibrium. The liner can be supplemented with a foaming agent to create cellular structures. Voids created by the microcapsules enhance the thermal barrier characteristics of the liner. The phase change material changes phase from a solid to a liquid state upon absorbing heat.

  • Publication number: 20120186294
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cooling receptacle for maintaining the cool temperature of a beverage comprising: a body portion, where said body portion conforms to a cylindrical shape and includes a thin wall surrounding an opening, where said opening provides a means for the placement of a beverage container; a base, said base encloses one end of the body portion; and a mechanism of producing a cooling effect to sustain the temperature of the beverage. In one particular embodiment, the mechanism to produce a cooling effect includes liquid polymer crystals embedded in the base and wall. A drainage hole may be provided within the base. The liquid polymer crystals in the base and the wall activate upon the hydrated condensation of the beverage container to form a gel-like consistency and create a cooling effect to sustain the temperature of the beverage.

  • Patent number: 8162170
Abstract: A beverage container that includes at least a bottom portion with a side portion extending from the bottom portion, and a balance mass in pressing engagement with the bottom portion is disclosed. The balance mass is adjacent an inner surface of the bottom portion in a preferred embodiment, and adjacent an outer surface in an alternate preferred embodiment. In each embodiment, the balance mass includes at least a core portion encapsulated by an encapsulant, in which the density of the core is greater than the density of a beverage of the beverage container. In the alternate preferred embodiment, the balance mass further includes a tip lip portion with a condensate retention ridge, and a condensate aperture. The condensate retention ridge, in cooperation with a side portion of the balance mass, forms a condensate channel, and the condensate aperture drains condensate from the condensate channel.

  • Patent number: 8109115
Abstract: Refrigeration apparatus comprising a cold storage compartment, accessible from the outside, and provided internally with a sealed container adapted to accommodate a flexible and compressible receptacle holding a beverage; there are provided pneumatic or air-compression means to generate a selectively controllable pneumatic pressure inside said container, but outside said flexible receptacle, and said sealed container is capable of being opened from the outside by means of a closure applied on a face thereof, wherein said closure is provided with a through-aperture, through which there extends a drawing-off conduit. Whenever a need arises for beverage to be drawn off the receptacle, a pressure increase is triggered inside the sealed container, and said pressure increase will act upon the walls of the internal receptacle so that the latter is caused to collapse and reduce its volume, thereby causing the beverage to be ejected therefrom and, therefore, drawn off.
