The fixation anchor portion and the centering anchor portion are adapted to couple to a portion of the eye.

    Abstract: For attaching an intraocular implant having pincher like clamping arms forming a pinching area between end portions of the clamping arms to an iris of an eye, the implant is positioned against a surface of the iris in the anterior chamber of the eye, a passage in a distal end portion of an ophthalmologic surgical instrument in the anterior chamber of the eye is positioned against a surface portion of the iris closely adjacent the pinching area, and suction is applied to the passage and at least one of the end portions of the clamping arms is urged towards the iris, causing a tuck of iris material adhered to the passage to be inserted into the pinching area. Thus, a tuck adhering to the passage can easily be introduced into the pinching area between the clamping arms. An instrument and an implant specifically adapted for this method are described as well.

    Abstract: A crossed haptics attached to an intraocular lens suitable for implantation in either a phakic or an aphakic eye and a method for implanting and releasing the haptics after implantation in the eye, wherein. The lens comprises a very thin, deformable optic having two pairs of haptics attached to the optic by means of two stems 180° apart on the circumference of the optic, the stems being wider and thinner at the base attached to the periphery of the optic, and tapering to a narrower and thicker tip to which each haptic is connected at opposite edges of the stem. Each haptic optionally sweeps about the periphery of the optic so that the angle subtended by a radial line extending from the center of the optic through the center of a footplate and a second radial line extending from the center of the optic through the center of the stem to which it attaches is about 135°. Also disclosed is a haptic design comprising four footplates which are all independently attached to an optic transition area.

    Abstract: An iris-supported intraocular lens having an optic portion and a plurality of fixation members coupled thereto. Each fixation member has a pair of pincer arms that separate outward of the optic and converge toward one another at aligned end tips. One or both of the end tips are covered with a soft sleeve or cap. The IOL is fixed in the anterior chamber of the eye by pinching the iris tissue between the end tips of each pair of pincer arms. The soft sleeves eliminate damage to the iris tissue.

    Abstract: A refractive intraocular lens including an optic portion having an outer peripheral edge and three or four balanced haptic elements. Each haptic element is formed to have an inner portion and outer tip for supporting the optic portion in a patient's eye. The inner portion of each haptic element is permanently connected to the outer peripheral edge of the optic portion. Each haptic element also includes a contact plate and a transition portion, which extends between the contact plate and the inner portion. Each haptic is formed to have greater resistance to bending in a plane generally parallel to an eye's optical axis than in a plane generally perpendicular to the eye's optical axis. The intraocular lens is so designed to exhibit less than approximately 1.0 mm axial displacement of the optic portion along the eye's optical axis under a compression force suitable to effect a 1.0 mm in diameter compression of the intraocular lens.
