  • Patent number: 4403014
Abstract: The invention relates to a process of deposition of a coating of a gold compound on a solid substrate. In a vacuum chamber (1), the substrate is fixed on a first substrate electrode (2). A composite target (5) essentially consists of gold and at least one of the metal compounds, such as nitride, carbide and boride of the metals of group IV b of the periodic classification of elements and tantalum. A high-purity argon atmosphere at pressure ranging between 4.times.10.sup.-4 and 3.times.10.sup.-2 Torr is then established in the chamber. The deposition of the coating is then carried out by ionic deposition or evaporation in vapor phase at a given rate. The invention may find application to coat articles of jewelry or of watch cases.

  • Patent number: 4276757
Abstract: A support for enabling a pinstem, plaque-type article of jewlery to be suspended from a neck encircling chain comprises a body section having four springy, arched arms or legs radiating therefrom. Two opposite arms have fingers provided with pinstem-accommodating openings and the other two arms or legs are adapted to bear on plaque. To enable the pinstem to pass through the openings in the fingers, the arms having the fingers must be flexed in such manner as to reduce their arch. The pinstem then will bear firmly against the body section and be gripped tightly by the edges of the fingers adjacent respective openings.

  • Patent number: 4166153
Abstract: A low-alloy zinc material is disclosed containing a minor amount of titanium, e.g., 0.05 to 1.0 weight percent titanium. The alloy material can be formed into objects which have good cold workability, strength and resistance to corrosion. The zinc alloy materials are tarnish-resistant and can readily be embossed, hollowed, pressed, bent, or the like. They are especially useful as coining material to form coins, coin blanks, plaques, medals, and other useful and/or decorative objects.

  • Patent number: 4091554
Abstract: A medallion or the like for displaying letters or monograms in which the individual letters can be inserted or removed to permit any combination of letters to be displayed. The medallion, which can be used as a belt buckle, pin, clasp or other decorative or ornamental device, utilizes individual flat letters mounted tangentially on tubular members. The tubular members are slidable on a supporting rod. The ends of the rod are removably attached to one side of a slightly bowed metal plate having an elongated opening, the rod extending lengthwise of the opening on the concave side of the plate with the letters bridging the width of the opening on the convex side of the plate. The letters are held in position by the clamping action between the letters and one side of the plate and the anchored ends of the rod on the other side of the plate.
