Abstract: The invention relates to a method for marking single pane security glass, produced from single pane glass by a heat treatment said single pane glass (1) being provided with at least one metal-particle- or metal-ion- containing marking, generated by laser irradiation (3) of a metal ion donor material (2) arranged on the single pane glass, said single pane glass (1) being subjected to a heat treatment to form single pane security glass (1) wherein at least one marking is altered by the heat treatment and it may be checked whether a change to at least one marking has occurred and thus the heat treatment may be verified.
Abstract: What is described and claimed is an atmospheric chemical vapor deposition method of making a low-resistivity, doped zinc oxide coated glass article, made by directing one or more streams of gaseous reactants, specifically a zinc containing compound, a fluorine containing compound, an oxygen containing compound, and at least one compound containing one or more of boron, aluminum, gallium and indium onto a surface of a heated glass substrate.

Abstract: In accordance with the invention, an optical fiber is provided with a metal coating of controlled variable thickness by the steps of disposing the fiber in position for receiving coating metal from a metal source, and depositing metal while moving a shadow mask between the fiber and the source to provide patterning of deposited metal. Advantageously, the mask is translated at a constant velocity perpendicular to the fiber. The method is particularly useful for the fabrication of adjustable Bragg gratings.

Abstract: The deposit of natural or synthetic silica comprises a preform (1) set into rotation (7) in front of a plasma torch (3) which moves back and forth substantially parallel to a longitudinal direction (L) of the preform (1), a feed duct (9) for feeding the plasma with grains of natural or synthetic silica (11), characterized in that the same feed duct (9) feeds the plasma with a fluorine or chlorine compound, preferably a fluorine compound, mixed with a carrier gas (15).
Sodium or lithium contained in the grains of natural or synthetic silica reacts with the fluorine or chlorine of the fluorine or chlorine compound, making it possible to improve the optical quality of fibers built up with the natural or synthetic silica at reduced cost.
Abstract: A process for preparing a quartz crucible having a tungsten doped layer on the inside surface, outside surface, or both the inside surface and the outside surface is disclosed. One or more surfaces of the crucible is exposed to a vaporous tungsten source to anneal the tungsten into the crucible surface and create a tungsten doped layer which behaves similarly to a bubble free layer upon use in a crystal pulling process.

Abstract: Apparatus is provide for the fabrication of fiber composites composed of a fiber-reinforced vitreous or glass-ceramic matrix by winding fibers preimpregnated with constituents of the matrix onto a mandrel.
