Abstract: The invention relates to a method of forming a goblet from a glass bottle of the type having a base, a body portion extending from the base and converging towards a neck which terminates in a lip defining a mouth. The method comprises the steps of severing the base from the body portion along a first severance plane which is proximate the base and normal to a central axis of the bottle, and removing a waste portion of the body along a second severance plane which is parallel to the first severance plane. The mouth of the bottle is then glued or fused to a center portion of an upper surface of the base so as to form the goblet, with the base of the bottle forming a foot of the goblet, the neck of the bottle forming a stem of the goblet and the body portion of the bottle defining a bowl of the goblet. The method may include the step of plugging the neck of the bottle so as to form a solid stem.
Abstract: A drinking glass having a press-molded stem and a base (or pedestal), comprising at least one hollow passage extending approximately horizontally and transversely through the stem. An insert, formed of, for example, a colored plastic, may be fitted into the hollow passage.
Abstract: Machine for making pressed glass parts, and particularly cups and stems. A rotatable machine table (4) has several work stations (1) which have one bottom plate (31) each with a means (37) for centering an exchangeably mountable glass mold (3). Each work station (1) has a lift drive for a rod (25) coacting with the glass mold (3). The lift drive contains a first vertical guidance element (8) mounted in the machine table (4). The rod (25) has a second vertical guidance element (20) mounted in the bottom plate (31). Finally, a means for setting the vertical distance between rod (25) and lift drive is provided. To achieve the object of reducing the overall height and weight of the machine, the first vertical guidance element (8) is over its entire length mounted underneath an upper boundary surface (5) of the machine table (4) inside the latter, and the bottom plate (31) is mounted directly on the machine table (4).

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of pressing glass articles, especially feet of glasses with integrally formed stems, by pressing a portion of a glass lump or parison into a mold having the (internal) contour of the glass article to be formed, with the other portion of the parison being left behind outside of the mold, and wherein the glass article is subsequently separated from the remaining part of the parison which comprises cutting off the still plastified connecting strand or core between the remaining part of the parison and the glass article, following the pressing operation, directly at the glass article, and removing the strand lug or protrusion left on the glass article, after removal of said glass article from the mold.
Abstract: Stemmed glassware is produced by an apparatus in which the stem is formed separately and is subsequently joined to the cup at the final phase of the blowing operation of the cup glass. In the apparatus a first rotatable platen having cup molds is provided for blowing of the cups and a second rotatable platen having stem molds is provided for forming the stems. A drop of glass for producing the stems is dropped through a very short distance of about 20 to 40 mm. to prevent excessive cooling of the glass drop and to assit in centering the glass drop in longitudinally divided stem molds. A ring centers the mold halves of the stem molds and a surface on the ring molds a part of the stem base. The second platen rotates the stem molds through a pressing station at which the glass drop is pressed to form the stem to a transfer station at which a transfer means transfers the finished stems from the second rotatable platen and attaches the stems to the cups on the first rotatable platen.
Abstract: Glass or like stemware is manufactured in one piece by part-forming an article having a glob of material in the position where the stem is required, placing the glob between rollers which have a shape defining the required shape of the stem, and rotating the glob between the rollers while advancing the rollers inwardly. Subsequently a foot forming member is axially advanced towards the glob to apply pressure against the glob to form a radially-extending foot.
