Uniting Patents (Class 66/144)
  • Patent number: 5369966
Abstract: In order to process yarn preliminarily, and to change over yarn precisely at a desired knitting position, the yarn fed to a flat knitting machine is processed by a yarn processing device. To change over the yarn at a changeover position of knitted fabric, it is necessary to actuate the yarn processing device preliminarily at an actuating position C. A controller calculates the actuating position from a set value in a setting circuit and pattern information from a memory. When an encoder detects that a position of feeding the yarn to a knitting needle has reached the actuating position, the yarn processing device is actuated. The length of the yarn from a yarn processing position to the actuating position is nearly equal to the sum of a knitting loop length from the actuating position to the changeover position.

  • Patent number: 5131244
Abstract: An annular knitting machine comprises a thread exchange device, at least knot unit, means forming a thread processing point, a thread storage device located between the knot unit and the thread processing point, and a control device provided with a microprocessor and a knot data storage for the thread exchange device, the thread exchange device having a sensor which supplies pulses dependent upon a movement of a machine part, the control device also having a microprocessor and a knot data storage and formed so that a length of a thread which is guided through the thread storage device between each knot unit and the thread processing point associated with the latter is maintained at a constant value fixed in the storage of the control device, the sensor supplying movement dependent pulses and being formed as a displacement sensor which is independent of a needle pitch of a needle plate and provides a fixed pulse number per a displacement length unit.

  • Patent number: 5058398
Abstract: A thread supply device for multi-system circular knitting machines has at least one warp beam accommodated rotatablhy in a receiving frame. On the warp beam are wound the threads associated with the individual knitting systems in the form of adjacent thread winding areas with equal axial lengths and equal diameters. The warp beam is connected with a drive and driven thereby in such a way that it always delivers to the knitting systems the average thread quantitites consumed thereby during operation of the circular knitting machine irrespective of the momentary diameters of the thread winding areas.

  • Patent number: 4984436
Abstract: A thread exchange device for multisystem knitting machines includes a knot unit for knotting a new thread on a movable old thread. The knot unit has a winding finger on which a closed loop of the new thread is formed, a part for moving the new thread into engagement with the winding finger, a loop turning lever that engages the old thread to form an open loop thereof and lays the open loop of the old thread into the closed loop of the new thread during continuous movement of the old thread. The knot unit further includes a hook that engages an end of the new thread and pulls the end of the new thread through the open loop of the old thread. The exchange device further includes a brake located between an element for establishing a thread compensation path and the knot unit for tightening a knot. The method relates to forming knots of a new thread with a movable old thread during continuous movement of the old thread with the use of the thread exchange device.

  • Patent number: 4840046
Abstract: In the procedure for ensuring a precisely positioned introduction of a substitute yarn in a knitting machine by means of a substitute yarn (15) which is attached by a knotter (13) to a running yarn (12), the machine is halted at the desired position for the change of yarn before or after formation of the connecting knot (16) and afterwards the length of yarn located between the knotter (13) and the yarn working position is drawn out past the connecting knot (16) and taken up to one side and the machine is only started up again when the yarn feeder (11) is feeding the substitute yarn.

  • Patent number: 4691535
Abstract: A yarn-selecting device of a knitting frame comprises a mechanism for joig the yarn being knitted to a selected yarn to be knitted, which mechanism comprises a swivelling finger for forming a closed loop of the yarn to be knitted. Two levers form an open loop of the yarn being knitted and insert it through the closed loop of the yarn to be knitted on the finger. A hooking lever is provided for pulling the yarn to be knitted through the open loop of the yarn being knitted, after which the open loop-forming lever is retracted thus removing the closed loop from the finger, and the yarn being knitted is cut by a knife while the end of the yarn to be knitted is released from a gripper.

  • Patent number: 4531385
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for feeding yarns of different colors to a conventional knitting machine for producing striped fabrics (circle-striped fabrics). The first step of the method according to the invention consists in selecting and presenting a predetermined length of a yarn of a desired color in accordance with the striped pattern to be produced. The so selected and presented yarn lengths are subsequently joined to form a continuous yarn. In a third step, the continuous yarn formed of said joined yarn lengths is intermittently formed into an intermediate store, from which the yarn is positively fed to the knitting machine at a constant speed in synchronism with the operating speed of the knitting machine. In this fourth step of the method, the continuous yarn is fed to the associated knitting system of the machine.
