Patent number: 4027667Abstract: A therapeutic stocking comprising, a circumferentially elastic boot portion having an upper thigh panel for exerting a desired compressive pressure against the upper thigh of a wearer's leg. The upper thigh panel has a limited vertical stretch relative a hip panel for accurate placement of the upper thigh panel on the wearer's upper thigh. The stocking has waist support means, and the hip panel extends between the support means and the upper thigh panel along the side of the wearer's hip. The hip panel is vertically stretchable between the support means and the upper thigh panel to permit placement of the support means on the wearer's waist a variable distance from the upper thigh while the upper thigh panel remains at its proper position on the wearer's upper thigh.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1975Date of Patent: June 7, 1977Assignee: The Kendall CompanyInventors: Roger T. Swallow, John E. Pendergrass

Patent number: 4022035Abstract: A method for manufacturing seamless panty hose having two tubular legs knitted by continuously rotating the needle cylinder and a panty portion between the legs knitted by reciprocatingly operating the needle cylinder. During manufacturing of the central part of the panty portion a number of adjacent needles is inactivated at the end of each stroke of reciprocation and the last of the working needles are controlled to form a knit selvage edge at the sides of the inactivated group of needles extending longitudinally with respect to the knitted fabric, the opposite selvage edges being spaced by an extent corresponding to the extent of the arc of the needle cylinder occupied by the inactivated needles. The number of inactivated needles is such as to define between the two opposite selvage edges a rectangular waist opening having proportioned sides.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1974Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Inventor: Francesco Lonati

Patent number: 3999406Abstract: Panti-hose knitted as a continuous tube with an area of fabric removed to form the waist opening in which elastic thread is incorporated in the fabric surfaces adjacent the waist opening primarily in those regions which are subject to stretch in the direction of the stitch courses. Elastic thread can also be incorporated in other regions to cause rolling in or folding over of the edges surrounding the waist opening, thereby improving the appearance, and reinforcing threads are also incorporated in some of the regions surrounding the waist opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1975Date of Patent: December 28, 1976Assignee: Firma Gottlieb EppingerInventors: Franz Boeckle, Edmond Tovar, Edmund Langmesser

Patent number: 3998076Abstract: A knitted tubular article such as pantyhose with a longitudinal intermediate cut designed to constitute an opening as for the waist of the pantyhose and for the forming of an elastic edge along said opening. The article is made on a circular hosiery machine, rotating with a continuous motion.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1974Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Billi, S.p.A.Inventors: Massimo Bianchi, Paolo Conti

Patent number: 3995322Abstract: This sock is particularly adapted for use with ski boots and the like and the leg portion is provided with terry loops extending inwardly of the inner surface to provide additional fabric thickness for cushioning the leg of the wearer against chafing by the top and upper edge of the ski boot. The sock is provided with an upper cuff portion of rib knit fabric with elastic yarn incorporated in the upper portion thereof to draw the upper end of the sock inwardly when the sock is relaxed and to aid in maintaining the upper edge of the sock in snug engagement with the leg of the wearer. Color bands are provided at the upper and lower ends of the leg portion to aid in defining the area of the leg portion in which the terry loops are formed.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1976Date of Patent: December 7, 1976Assignee: Wigwam Mills, Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Chesebro, Jr.

Patent number: 3990115Abstract: A cuffless sock is provided which has a permanently rolled top portion adapted to encircle the lower ankle area of the wearer and which is knitted in such a way that the rolled top portion has an inherent tendency to roll upon itself. The rolled top portion is tacked to the body portion of the sock at spaced apart points at the sides of the foot receiving opening to hold the top portion in its rolled condition while permitting the untacked front and rear portions of the top to conform to varying configurations and heights of the upper edge of different shoes with which the sock is to be worn. The front and rear portions of the rolled top are preferably provided with terry loops while the opposite side portions are devoid of terry loops to be substantially smaller than the front and rear rolled top portions.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1976Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Renfro CorporationInventor: Dallas G. Patent number: 3975929Abstract: This stocking is knit on a circular hosiery knitting machine and the upper end of the leg is provided with an upstanding and integrally knit extension with a narrow elastic band extending around the remaining portion of the upper end of the leg portion. Opposite ends of the elastic band are attached to opposite sides of the extension. The upper section of the leg portion, immediately below the band and the extension, is knit with alternate courses of covered spandex yarn and intervening courses of stretchable textured yarn. The spandex yarn and stretchable yarn are both alternately knit and tucked to provide a circumferentially enlarged area in this upper portion of the leg of the stocking.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1975Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Assignee: Alba-Waldensian, IncorporatedInventor: Oscar Fregeolle
