Single Endless Belt Patents (Class 68/45)
  • Patent number: 5367895
Abstract: A device for applying a treatment liquid to a moving web of material such as a textile web includes a drum that is rotatable around a horizontal axis. At least one guide roller is provided for guiding the fabric web such that the web wraps at least partially around the drum beginning at a side of the drum at which the web is disposed tangentially thereto and continuing around a bottom portion of the drum. A trailing, continuous band is also provided which is closed in a liquid-tight manner and circulates in a plane that is perpendicular to the axis of the drum. The band has an outer circumferential surface that fits closely on the fabric web at a location in which the web contacts the drum. The circumferential surface of the band and drum define a nip therebetween. The band seals off the nip at its bottom. The band has web segments forming lateral sealing elements which extend from the edges of the band to project outwardly. The segments have a side abutting a contact surface formed at the rim of the drum.

  • Patent number: 5186791
Abstract: A method for thickening a liquid suspension of solid particles, such as papermaking pulp in water, uses a pair of spaced apart rolls and a woven wire or plastic wire belt trained around these rolls. The suspension is supplied at the first roll for centrifugal extraction and is carried by the belt to the second roll for further water extraction and thickening, and is then discharged from the apparatus. In one embodiment, the first roll is formed with an open surface, and the suspension is delivered to the web at least partially by flowing both into and out a roll chamber via the first roll openings, from a headbox in the on-running wedge zone.

  • Patent number: 4740305
Abstract: The invention is a method and apparatus for treating a permeable web with a fluid. The apparatus has a rotatable drum with a fluid permeable endless belt reeved about at least a portion of the drum circumference. Two or more spaced-apart press rolls bear against the outer surface of the belt, pressing it against the drum with sufficient force to form nip zones. A belt position control mechanism gives the belt limited freedom of radial movement away from the drum in the area between the nip zones. This permits a gap of controllable dimension to form between the drum and the belt. The gapped region defines a volume which creates a permeable web treating zone. The drum surface has at least one row of spaced apertures located entirely around its circumference. These apertures communicate with a fluid supply system which can supply treating fluid under pressure outwardly through the surface apertures into the treating zones between the press rolls.

  • Patent number: 4686005
Abstract: A method of, and washing machine or washer for, washing stock suspensions, wherein a rotatable cylinder having a solid smooth surface is encircled along a portion of its circumference by a movable endless wire or filter band. The stock suspension to be dewatered and washed is infed by a flat jet nozzle between the rotatable solid cylinder and the movable endless wire. The fiber web formed between the rotatable solid cylinder and the movable endless wire has a weight of less than 100 grams per square meter, preferably 30 to 70 grams per square meter. The wire speed and the circumferential speed of the rotatable solid cylinder is in the order of about 400 to 1,200 meters per minute. After through-flow of the stock suspension between the rotatable solid cylinder and the movable endless wire, the dewatered and washed fiber material is removed from the movable endless wire and the rotatable solid cylinder, respectively, collected in a collecting container and delivered for further processing.

  • Patent number: 4501662
Abstract: A wire machine, especially for washing stock suspensions, contains one or a number of dewatering cylinders about which there is trained an endless wire or filter band. There is provided at least one stock infeed device which infeeds a substantially flat jet of the suspension which is to be dewatered into a substantially wedge-shaped space or throat located between the wire band and the dewatering cylinder. The dewatering cylinder has a longitudinal axis which is essentially vertically arranged. There are possible different arrangements of the dewatering cylinder or cylinders, the stock infeed devices and material removal devices for removing from the rotatable dewatering cylinder solid constituents or the like contained in the stock suspension. Also there are possible different arrangements and uses of guide rolls for guiding the wire or wire band.

  • Patent number: 4462228
Abstract: An apparatus for mercerizing textiles and fabrics of cotton or cotton blends; the textile material, before and during impregnation with lye, is guided between a drum mantle and a synchronous liquid-permeable pressure band; removal of the lye is effected through the textile material while the latter is looped around the drum. The shrinkage of edges, especially of fabrics, is to be avoided both with certainty and also in a lasting manner. Also to be achieved is a complete impregnation of the textile material, as well as a removal and recovery of the strong lye without a dilution thereof by weak lye or water used for removal of lye.

  • Patent number: 4462131
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for mercerizing a cellulosic fiber-containing sliver with an aqueous solution of caustic soda of high concentration. The sliver is transported between a belt conveyor and a press belt to hold it in place and transported in a downwardly inclined direction, then transferred from the belt conveyor onto a net conveyor having mesh openings and transported by said net conveyor such that the excessive caustic soda solution drips through the mesh openings of the net conveyor and the caustic soda is finally squeezed out of the sliver by means of squeezed rollers. The squeezed sliver material is then washed with water by transporting it to another net conveyor containing press rollers thereupon by passing the sliver between the net conveyor and press rollers located in a water-washing tub. An apparatus to effect this process also constitutes part of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 4434633
Abstract: A squeeze roll arrangement and method is disclosed for high expression squeeze roll liquor expression of non-woven fiber batts. An auxiliary conveyor belt is provided to squeeze the batt before passing through the nip of the squeeze rolls with the batt. In this way, a portion of the liquor carried by the batt is expressed prior to passage of the batt through the nip. Since the batt is carried by the auxiliary conveyor belt, disruption of the batt is minimized. Preferably, chains are provided on either side of the batt to maintain a preferred orientation of the batt. Various sprockets and pulleys are provided as desired to guide the chains with various turn rollers provided to carry the conveyor belt. The chains are flexibly attached to the edges of the belt to continuously guide the belt. In this way, alignment of the belt on the turn and squeeze rolls is maintained.

  • Patent number: 4412435
Abstract: Continuous laundering apparatus having a continuous conveyor carrying the goods to be laundered through the apparatus. Devices additional to, and separate from, the conveyor are provided for agitating the goods as they are carried by the conveyor. The conveyor is a single mesh or web, surrounding or enclosing the goods, and holding them in suspended form, and the agitators engage the conveyor, and the goods, at the sides. In one form the agitators are on opposite sides of the conveyor, engaging the conveyor against each other, and in another form, on one side and engaging it against the wall of the tank through which the goods are carried. A plurality of units provide different kinds of steps, such as washing and rinsing, and the conveyor assumes a bag shape and carries the goods between the units.

  • Patent number: 4199966
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing an impregnation/rinsing of a web with fluid is disclosed wherein the web is repeatedly gently squeezed and allowed to open. A perforated conveyor belt carries the web within a longitudinal tank in which a series of squeeze rollers and a series of singular or cooperating rollers are arranged with the cooperating rollers being disposed intermediate the squeeze rollers. The web is carried by the conveyor belt beneath the first squeeze roller where the web is gently squeezed in a nip defined between the conveyor belt and the roller. The conveyor belt then carries the web above a cooperating roller. After the web has been gently squeezed, it is allowed to absorb the fluid in the tank without restraint until the web is gently squeezed again between the conveyor belt and the next squeeze roller. The steps of squeezing and absorbing are repeated throughout the longitudinal tank.
