Patent number: 5966970Abstract: A lockable valve (7) for a fuel line contains a fuel inlet (2) and fuel outlet (3) which communicates with one another via a passage (6) in which is located a spring-biased piston (15) which is responsive to a pressure change in the fuel line. Associated with the piston (15) is a spring biased plunger (11) which controls a valve (8) to close or restrict the flow of fuel through passage (6). At the other end of the piston (15) is a resetting device (23, 24) which requires an unlocking action before the piston can be extended to withdraw the plunger 11 so as to open the valve. When a fall in pressure is detected by the piston (15), it causes operation of the valve (8) to stop or restrict fuel flow but this operation may only be reversed by the unlocking action.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: John O'KeeffeInventor: Brian Francis Mooney

Patent number: 5934313Abstract: A fluid flow control valve suitable for fitting to the fuel line (16, 18) of an internal combustion engine has a valve member (12) and a spring (14) urging the valve member (12) to a closed position where the valve member seals against a valve seat (13). A key-actuated setting mechanism (20, 21) allows the valve member (12) to be moved away from its closed position to an open position and a latch (31, 32) then holds the valve member in that open position. An electrically operated release (33) moves the latch (31) to free the valve member and permits the valve to close under the action of the spring (14). When fitted to a vehicle, energy may be provided to the release (33) automatically whenever the vehicle is left unattended so as to immobilise the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Inventors: Andrew Mark Brothers, David John Horton

Patent number: 4489748Abstract: A valve body is disclosed located in the hydraulic system of a machine which valve serves to direct hydraulic fluid under pressure to hydraulic components or divert the fluid to a system reservoir to prevent component operation. A check valve in the valve body is opened or closed by control means with the check valve indirectly determining the position of a pressure responsive spool for either normal fluid passage to hydraulic components or fluid diversion back to a reservoir. Remote actuation of the control means is by a hand operated air, lockable pump to enable an authorized equipment operator to remotely actuate said control means to effect locking or unlocking of the hydraulic system by positioning the check valve. A modified check valve control dispenses with the air pump and utilizes a lock plunger to bias the check valve to a closed position for normal hydraulic system operation or, conversely, to open the check valve to divert pressurized fluid back to a system reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Inventor: Ellis E. Patent number: 4217925Abstract: Disclosed herein is a locking mechanism for closing the gas line in an automobile, said locking mechanism comprising a tumbler lock engaged to a rotary valve adapted for insertion into a fuel line. The valve itself comprises a rectangular body having a transverse circular opening formed therein across which the fuel flow communicates. Installed in the transverse opening is a rotary planar vane being rotatable to a first position uncovering the inlet and outlet ports of the circular opening and conformed on its exterior edges to the opening periphery, said vane having stand-offs on the bottom thereof for providing a communicating path for the gasoline and being rotatable to a second position closing off the communicating path. In the last position the thickness of the vane blocks the passage of gasoline thus precluding unauthorized use of the automobile. It is contemplated that the foregoing lock be installed in the floor surface of the automobile, the valve extending therefrom being placed into the fuel line.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1978Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Inventor: Bob Clark

Patent number: 4131127Abstract: Disclosed is a valve for selectively preventing fluid flow along a flow line. A plunger of a locking mechanism moves a valve stem between a first position, in which the valve is in an open configuration, and a second position in which the valve stem presses a resilient diaphragm into sealing engagement with an annular seat circumscribing an outlet port resulting in a closed configuration for the valve. The valve stem may be moved from the second position to the first position only by unlocking the locking mechanism. In the embodiment shown, the valve is interposed along a fuel flow line between a fuel supply and an engine in a motor vehicle. Inlet and outlet flow line receiving means are integrated in a plastic housing, which includes two components riveted together.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1977Date of Patent: December 26, 1978Inventors: Jose V. Patent number: 4084657Abstract: A valve positioned in the fuel supply line of a vehicle has two positions selectable by means of a key-operated lock. In the first position, the valve permits full fuel flow allowing the vehicle to operate in its normal manner. In the second position, the valve only permits a greatly reduced fuel flow allowing the vehicle to operate at idle speed, and thereby preventing the vehicle from being operated in its normal manner by an unauthorized user.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1974Date of Patent: April 18, 1978Inventors: W.
