Steering Mechanism With Switch Patents (Class 70/252)
  • Patent number: 7178624
Abstract: A device that is used for the automatic release, without any manual effort, of the steering system in a motor vehicle comprising electric power steering and a locking mechanism which acts on the steering column or on another part of the steering system. A controller, which is connected to an electric assist motor, receives signals from at least one vehicle status and/or initiating event detector and controls the motor in order to rotate the steering column or move another part of the steering system until the torque or stress on the locking mechanism is cancelled or reduced to almost zero, thereby enabling said mechanism to be released. The control of the motor is automatically interrupted at the end of a pre-determined period of time if the mechanism has not been released.

Abstract: Engagement parts 52c of the locking device for a steering shaft are formed on a side face of a driven gear of a reduction gear mechanism which is fastened to a steering shaft 2. Since a locking part 6a is arranged near the reduction gear mechanism, elements related to a locking function can be removed from the key cylinder of the engine key, so that the key cylinder of the engine key can be downsized, or can be arranged in another position. Consequently, even in a state where a reduction gear mechanism, a steering assist motor and the like are arranged in the middle of the steering shaft, a longer stroke of the impact absorbing mechanism in comparison with conventional mechanisms can be ensured, utilizing a decrease in length of the downsized or reduced key cylinder in the axial direction of the steering shaft 2.

  • Patent number: 7055351
Abstract: An electrically-driven steering lock device is provided having a lock body that, if broken while a vehicle is parked, the lock body is divided into a main body portion and a guide portion. A lock pin is inserted through a through-hole of a movable plate and fits into a fit-in hole formed in a lock stopper such that movement of the lock stopper is impeded. A locked state of a steering shaft is thereby maintained. Further, movement of the movable plate in a direction of being pulled-out also is impeded by the lock pin, and an interior of the guide portion is prevented from being exposed. Moreover, the lock pin is provided within the guide portion, and even if the guide portion is viewed from an exterior, it is difficult to learn of a mechanism and a position of the lock pin. Therefore, it is difficult to cancel a locked state. Thus an electrically-driven steering lock device is provided in which it is difficult to cancel the locked state by an illegal act, and which has a good antitheft quality.

  • Patent number: 6776251
Abstract: A device for locking a steering column of a vehicle has a force-loaded locking member and a control device for adjusting the locking member relative to the steering column between a locking position preventing rotation of the steering column and a release position allowing rotation of the steering column. The locking member has one or more clamping jaws having a smooth friction surface without profile. A smooth counter friction surface without profile is provided on the circumference of the steering column. A force generator is connected to the control device and exerts in a locking situation, where the locking member is in the locking position, a clamping force onto the locking member directed against the counter friction surface and turns off the clamping force in a release situation, where the locking member is in the release position.

  • Patent number: 6776016
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for starting a motor vehicle motor. According to the invention, a slot is (11) used for inserting (59) the key (50) which is usually closed by a spring-loaded cover (14). The key (50) is displaced in the slot (11) into various key positions (20.1), in order to control different functions of the motor or other ancillary devices in the vehicle. In order to ensure a compact construction which is easy to use, the inventive device prevents the key (50) from turning in the slot (11) and the key (50) is displaced into at least three operating positions (20.1) for the control functions which are axially staggered. After being inserted for a first operating distance (51), the key takes up an initial position (20.1), in which it is secured in the slot (11) in a force-fit. In a subsequent second intermediate position, the key (50) is secured in a positive fit which can be locked automatically. This prevents the manual withdrawal (57) of the key (50).

Abstract: A holder coil spring is located between an inner surface of a bottom of a case main body and a bottom outer surface of a shutter holder. A shutter coil spring is located between a bottom inner surface of the shutter holder and a shutter. In each sidewall of the shutter holder, a tactile feedback piece and a locking piece are provided. The tactile feedback piece holds the shutter holder at the case main body. The locking piece locks an electronic key in the shutter holder. Even if an object other than the electronic key (for example, a finger) is inserted in the slot, the object is not locked in the shutter holder. When the object other than the electronic key is pulled out of the slot, the shutter holder and the shutter return to original positions to close the slot. Therefore, when no object is inserted, the slot of the slot mechanism is reliably closed with the shutter.

Abstract: A lock includes a locking element and a control element displaceable to-and-fro between a locked and an unlocked position and a control element also rotatable to-and-fro by a drive to axially displace in either direction a locking element or a drive element cooperating with the locking element. The control element encloses the locking element for the drive element and includes two helical inner grooves, bevels or a thread which cooperates with one or two radially extending protrusions of the locking element. Each groove, bevel or thread merges into an end surface located in a plane extending orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the control element and may include an intermediate surface also located in a plane extending perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the control element.
