Tumblers Released Patents (Class 70/303R)
  • Patent number: 6151935
Abstract: A deadbolt lock and a deadbolt which will extend automatically whenever a container is locked by virtue of a rigid portion of the container engaging a trigger element extending from the end face of the bolt and causing the release of an outer bolt portion is shown and described herein. The release of the outer bolt of the bolt assembly allows the outer bolt to project outwardly and to lock the container notwithstanding the fact that the bolt has not been reset by the operator of the lock. The bolt is self-contained and can be substituted into many existing lock mechanisms of the mechanical type and into some of the existing electronic dial combination locks, to provide the auto-locking enhancement.

  • Patent number: 5095724
Abstract: A tumbler wheel scrambler assembly for combination locks of the type having a plurality of tumbler wheels and a driving cam arranged in a stack in a lock case with lost motion couplings for rotating the tumbler wheels upon rotation of the driving cam by a dial, and having a slidable bolt and pivoted fence lever for moving the bolt from projected locking position to unlocking position when the proper opening combination has been dialed. The lock case has a scrambler mounting post therein and the scrambler included a two piece housing of mating housing halves collectively defining guide channels for elongated slide members having hook formations protruding into positions to engage with gates of the tumbler wheels for spring forced scrambling of the tumbler wheel positions during displacement of the bolt from projected locking position. The scrambler housing halves have mounting ear formations for collectively encircling the mounting post to pivotally support the scrambler housing from the lock case.

  • Patent number: 4708006
Abstract: A combination lock having two or more disks and a cam which includes a drive pin for driving an adjacent disk which, in turn, drives the next disk. The disks have pins adapted to be received in apertures in two or more disks, known as wheel gates, the disks and the cam can be moved inwardly. In this position, a notch on the cam engages a nose on a drop lever which is in turn connected to the locking bolt. Rotation of the cam in one direction will then move the bolt to the unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4694670
Abstract: A combined key and combination lock herein having a housing fixed to a door which mounts a linear key lock mechanism including spring biased pins or tumblers displaced and aligned by a coded key and a rotary combination lock mechanism including notched or keyed disks selectively aligned by rotation of a numerical dial via a disk transfer mechanism. Shaft and gear members intercouple the key lock mechanism with combination lock mechanism with combination lock mechanism for cooperatively operating a latch bolt to a lock position while a resilient bias device returns the latch bolt to an unlock position. A clutch mechanism selectively disengages the key lock mechanism from the combination lock mechanism so that the numerical dial on the inside of the door may be used solely for unlatching the bolt from its lock position. A releasable stop plunger is spring biased on the housing for disabling both the key lock mechanism and the combination lock mechanism to retain the bolt in its lock position.

  • Patent number: 4543806
Abstract: A portable, hand-holdable, retractable cable lock includes a cable-carrying spool rotatably mounted within a casing. The cable extends through the casing and its free end may be locked to the casing to provide a theft deterrent. A coil spring within the casing applies a retracting force on the spool so that when the cable is unlocked and in an extended position the spring automatically rotates the spool to rewind the cable thereon. A ratchet mechanism permits free rotation of the spool in one direction to extend the cable, but prevents rotation of the spool in its other direction to rewind the cable unless disengaged.

  • Patent number: 4532785
Abstract: An improved lock assembly having a plurality of peripherally gated tumbler wheels supported within a housing for rotation about a common axis. A peripherally gated control cam is mounted to the tumbler wheel axis to provide cam operated movement of a fence lever and rotatably attached lock bolt between extended and retracted positions when the peripheral tumbler wheel gates are aligned. A single spring is provided for serving the dual purpose of biasing the fence lever towards the control cam and securing the fence lever to the bolt. Further, precise positioning of the lock bolt and lever when the lock bolt is moved to its extended position are provided by a three point positioning configuration in which special surfaces on the lever are moved into abutment with the lock housing. A new relock spring configuration and system is provided for preventing retraction of the lock bolt when the housing backplate is removed.

  • Patent number: 4350030
Abstract: A combination lock is provided for a luggage case having a single rotary dial sequentially manipulatable to open or release the lock and enable operating the case latching mechanism. A reset arm extends from the combination lock housing within the luggage which can be adjusted to the combination reset mode at which time rotation of the rotary in accordance with some new desired set of combination numbers changes the lock combination accordingly. On returning the reset arm to the operating mode, the lock can only now be opened by the new combination.

  • Patent number: 4327565
Abstract: An improved combination lock mechanism including a dial adapted for removable securement thereto. Mechanically connecting a conventional wheel pack and drive cam combination to a lock cam is a locking lever pivotally secured at a point intermediate the opposite ends thereof to said lock cam, said lever having a first end adapted for engagement by said drive cam and wheel pack and a second end conforming to at least a portion of the peripheral geometry of said wheel pack. Finally, there is included a relock plate and means for biasing said relock plate against lock bolt connective members. Fence members are formed on said relock plate and spaced apart a distance slightly less than the distance between the ends of said connective members when said connective members are in an extended position. Thus, the urging of said relock plate against said extended members upraises said fence members to a position proximate the ends of said extended connective members whereby to inhibit the retraction of the locking bolts.

  • Patent number: 4302955
Abstract: A combination lock and a length of steel cable of chain connected with the ends of said lock is disclosed. The lock comprises a bolt inserted in a casing having a shaft unrotatably disposed therein. Adjacent to one end of the shaft, a knob is mounted. Three step wheels, each having a peripheral recess, are also loosely mounted on the shaft. The step wheels are provided with a projection or projections on one or both sides for transmitting the movements of the knob. Adjacent to the first step wheel which is farthest from the knob, a retaining wheel is mounted on the shaft. The retaining wheel is provided with a recess at its periphery and a projection at one side. The projection is inserted in either one of five recesses provided at one side of the first step wheel whereby five different code numbers will be obtained without changing the step wheels. A click mechanism is arranged between the shaft and the knob.

  • Patent number: 4127995
Abstract: A multiple bolt combination lock with a combination dial having a shaft rotatable with the dial and extending through a wheel post and a bottom pan to engage locking wheels having gates which can be aligned by manipulation of the wheel. The bottom pan is fixed to a top pan having a plurality of locking rods pivotably attached thereto at a distance from the center of rotation so that rotation of the pans in one direction causes the rods to retract and rotation in the opposite direction causes the rods to advance. When the gates are aligned, a lever arm mounted on the bottom pan pivots under the urging of a spring into a position latching the dial and pans together for rotation. When the dial is rotated in a direction so as to advance the rods into a latching position, a cam on the wheel post which extends through a slot in the bottom pan engages the lever arm to pivot that arm out of the gates after the rods are in the latching position.

  • Patent number: 3952562
Abstract: A permutation lock assembly incorporated into a door knob and latch mechanism mountable in the standard openings in conventional swinging doors, using conventional door latch hardware. Rotation of an outer dial in a first direction causes rotation of an inner dial which is visible through a window until a number on the inner dial appears at the center of the window. Upon rotation of the outer dial in an opposite direction until a number thereon is aligned with a center mark, the door is unlocked and may be readily opened. When the proper combination is known, the combination may be changed, within a few seconds, from one combination to another. Also incorporated is a clutch device in the external knob that permits the knob to turn in either direction when the door is locked and excessive force is applied, thus preventing damage to the assembly.
