Combination Upsetting Patents (Class 70/314)
  • Patent number: 9003844
Abstract: A combination locking arrangement includes a locking member, at least first and second tumbler discs, a dial, and a code change mechanism. When each of the tumbler discs is rotated to an unlocking orientation, the locking member is movable from a locking position to a releasing position. The dial is rotatable about a tumbler disc axis for selective rotation of the at least first and second tumbler discs. The dial includes a clutch rotationally securable in interlocking engagement with the first tumbler disc. The code change mechanism is rotatable to a code change position to separate the clutch from the first tumbler disc, such that the dial is subsequently rotatable to rotate the clutch with respect to the first tumbler disc.

  • Patent number: 8087274
Abstract: A lock structure including an activation device, a combination lock, and a setting device is provided. The combination lock has a plurality of dials, a shaft passing through the dials, and a plurality of first gears disposed on one side of each dial. Each first gear further includes a missing tooth. One end of the shaft is connected to the activation device. The setting device has a plurality of second gears corresponding to the first gears and a setting shaft, wherein one end of the setting shaft passes through the second gears and the other end is connected to the activation device. • Patent number: 8037724
Abstract: A combination lock comprises a bolt which is withdrawn by depressing a bolt pin which is shielded by rotating discs having a movable disc pin within them. A selector pin attached to a dial is provided for engaging in selector holes in the discs and aligning the disc pins with one another and with the bolt pin, with provision for pushing inwardly the disc pin on the outer disc and urging the other disc pins aligned therewith towards the bolt pin such that it is depressed and/or withdrawn. The discs have a weight attached at their circumference such that, during code setting, changing the position of the weight changes the relative angular position of the disc pin. When pressure is released from the mechanism, springs return the selector pin and the disc pins to their original positions and the weights on the discs fall, thereby rotating the discs and automatically scrambling the code.

Abstract: A lock includes a housing, a keypad disposed on the housing, and a latch assembled with the housing. The keypad includes a plurality of button assemblies, each including an axially depressible button member including a camming surface, a lock wheel having a plurality of camming teeth, and a latch releasing feature secured to the lock wheel for rotation therewith. Pressing the button member causes the camming surface to engage one of the plurality of calming teeth, thereby incrementally rotating the lock wheel between a plurality of rotational positions. When the button members of a predetermined one or more of the plurality of button assemblies are depressed a predetermined number of times, the latch releasing features of each of the plurality of button assemblies align with a plurality of blocking features of the latch to permit lateral sliding movement of the latch from a locked condition to an unlocked condition.

  • Patent number: 6434981
Abstract: A combination lock having a housing, a shackle, a dial, a pushbutton, and a lock assembly. The lock assembly is made of a group of rotating disks having windows that can be aligned to open the lock. When the dial is turned according to the combination of the lock, the windows become aligned so that the user can depress the pushbutton to release the shackle. • Patent number: 6131428
Abstract: A combination of the inventive combination lock can be easily and conveniently changed by the user. A clutch selectively disengages the drive tumbler from the lock spindle. With the drive tumbler disengaged and the tumblers in an aligned position, the user rotates the lock knob by a desired increment, thereby changing all of the numbers by the increment. In one embodiment, the clutch is operated by a cup mounted around the drive cam and engaging the drive tumbler, a spring biasing the drive tumbler against the cup and the drive cam, and the cup carrying a button that, when pressed, moves the drive tumbler out of engagement with the drive cam. In another embodiment, the clutch is operated by a thumb screw projecting through a rear panel of the combination lock that moves an upper part of the drive cam out of engagement with a lower part of the drive cam, allowing relative rotation of the lock dial and the drive tumbler.

Abstract: A conventional rotatable tumbler combination lock of the type having notched rotatably mounted tumblers, a notched rotatably mounted drive plate, a bolt plate and bolt movable between locked and unlocked positions, a lever pivotally mounted to said bolt plate and having a fence for engagement with said tumbler notches and a dog for engagement with said drive plate to allow movement of bolt to said unlocked position, the improvement comprising including a scrambler mechanism which includes a rod having one end rotatably mounted to the bolt plate and another end adapted for engagement of detents on the tumblers. The rod engages said detents when the lock is in the open position and when the lock is closed, the rod spins the tumblers and the engagement of the dog with the drive plate notch and the fence with the tumbler notches is upset.

  • Patent number: 4055972
Abstract: Combination-controlled and key-operated padlock constructed to be partially assembled and stocked. When the lock is to be shipped, a desired key barrel and cylinder subassembly may be selected and assembled to the padlock without any alteration to the padlock or its casing. A two-piece inner back plate is provided, a larger part of which covers the combination tumblers and retains the tumbler post in position and forms a mounting for a pivot shaft for the rocker for the tumbler post. The smaller part of the back plate forms a mounting for a key cylinder subassembly including a key barrel within the key cylinder, a transmission plate movably mounted in the key cylinder and connected with the key barrel to be pivoted about the axis of the key barrel upon turning of the key. The smaller back plate is secured to a lug extending axially of a fin extending radially of the key cylinder so the partial back plate, key cylinder and transmission plate may be assembled to the lock in a simplified operation.

  • Patent number: 4048821
Abstract: A combination padlock has a plurality of permutation tumblers mounted on a ember shiftable in a cavity in the body of the lock to effect a change in combination. Limit means cooperate with the tumblers for preventing the member from being shifted except when the tumblers are set in the correct combination. The member can be shifted in response to movement of the shackle of the padlock, but only when the lock is open. The bolt of the padlock and the shackle are designed to permit the tumblers to be scrambled when the lock is open, thus concealing the correct combination from unauthorized persons, and preventing the combination from being changed while the lock is open.

  • Patent number: 4011742
Abstract: A lock device comprises a latch bolt assembly movably mounted for movement from a closed position to a open position. A combination lock system is operatively connected to the latch bolt for retentively engaging the latch bolt against movement to its open position, and for releasing the latch bolt assembly in response to a predetermined rotational movement of a dial on the lock mechanism. A handle or knob is operatively connected to the latch for opening the latch whenever the lock mechanism has released the latch. A reset mechanism is connected to the knob and also engages the lock mechanism so as to reset the lock mechanism each time the handle opens the latch whereby the lock mechanism will automatically move into retentive engagement with the latch bolt after the latch bolt has been opened.

  • Patent number: 3977222
Abstract: An improvement in a locking device of the type having a series of reference combinations arranged serially upon a tape. A combination is entered into the system by a set of push buttons. The combination entered is compared with the reference combination. If both combinations are complementary, the system can be unlocked. The improvement prevents the unauthorized ascertainment of the combination needed to release the device. An isolation or restraining bar acts as a buffer between an internal gate and a set of tumbler levers. When an actuator knob is turned to unlock the system, the tumbler levers normally will engage with the gate when the combination push buttons are not set to the proper combination. The combination then becomes ascertainable, because the tumbler levers that require actuation, transmit movement to the push buttons when contacted by the gate.
