Dials Patents (Class 70/332)
  • Patent number: 4404823
Abstract: A combination lock dial and ring assembly for combination locks and the like for limited range top reading of the dial indicia by reflected light rays only, including a rotatable dial member having a circular dial portion and a knob formation projecting forwardly therefrom wherein the dial portion has a rearwardly facing annular indicia bearing surface adjacent its periphery provided with rearwardly facing dial graduations and mirror image reversed dial numerals thereon for reading along reflected light ray paths. The dial ring has a forwardly facing dial receiving cavity encircled by an integral shielding surround ring formation over a sufficient extent to exclude observation of the dial graduations and numerals laterally and below the dial portion and having an interruption of limited circumferential extent providing a sight opening for observation of the dial graduations and numerals in a restricted observation zone generally above and vertically aligned with the axis of the dial member.

  • Patent number: 4327565
Abstract: An improved combination lock mechanism including a dial adapted for removable securement thereto. Mechanically connecting a conventional wheel pack and drive cam combination to a lock cam is a locking lever pivotally secured at a point intermediate the opposite ends thereof to said lock cam, said lever having a first end adapted for engagement by said drive cam and wheel pack and a second end conforming to at least a portion of the peripheral geometry of said wheel pack. Finally, there is included a relock plate and means for biasing said relock plate against lock bolt connective members. Fence members are formed on said relock plate and spaced apart a distance slightly less than the distance between the ends of said connective members when said connective members are in an extended position. Thus, the urging of said relock plate against said extended members upraises said fence members to a position proximate the ends of said extended connective members whereby to inhibit the retraction of the locking bolts.

  • Patent number: 4197726
Abstract: A dial for a combination lock extends through a disc mounted on the housing for supporting the dial. A pair of interchangeable members, one being used at a time, are used in conjunction with the dial. The first interchangeable member is a spacer mounted on the disc between the dial and the disc for spacing the dial from the disc and covering a portion of the disc. The second interchangeable member is a cover mounted over the disc. The cover has a window through which the dial can be seen. The window includes a lens with thin plates therein for directing light from the dial in a certain path so that the dial can only be seen from one position. The cover has members for securing the lens in the window so that it is not easily removed therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4014191
Abstract: The combination lock disclosed has a plurality of disc-shaped tumblers mounted side-by-side for individual relative rotation around a common axis. A cylindrical member or drum having a plurality of lugs thereon is located adjacent the outer periphery of the tumblers for movement by a dial around the axis of rotation of the tumblers and for rotation on its longitudinal axis. A ratchet rotates the drum on its longitudinal axis a portion of a revolution each time the dial is returned to a selected position. Each tumbler has a protrusion on its periphery that when engaged by a lug on the drum will cause the tumbler to be rotated with the drum as the drum is moved around the axis of rotation of the tumbler by a dial. The lugs are arranged on the drum so that in one position of the drum the dial will move all of the tumblers to a preselected relative position. An audible or visible signal indicates that the lugs are in this position.
