Abstract: A locking device for controlled, reversible security using a control key to set the lock's accessibility to multiple individual keys, thus providing complete control of security. The control key has hierarchy over the individual key(s). Rotating the control key from the first to a second position prevents the core from being actuated by the individual key(s), thus activating a blocking function by which the lock can only be operated by the control key. Returning the control key from the second position back to the first position allows the control key to be removed ( the blocking function is still active). When the control key is rotated from the first to a third position, the core can be operated by the individual key(s), thus inactivating the blocking function. • Patent number: 6389859
Abstract: A master/valet lock and keyset provides a means of permitting limited one-time entry after locking a door to individuals possessing a valet key. In an embodiment, the mechanism relies on the use of a special master key to access a secondary lock cylinder, by means of which the full range of lock positions is allowed. Using the valet key, only the primary lock cylinder is accessed, restricting the range of positions to allow the user to unlock and relock the lock just once. This system may provide a means to allow occasional entry without granting unlimited access to the premises. • Patent number: 4506530
Abstract: In a security door lock a pivoted detent deadlocks the bolt by engagement of a stump in pockets provided in the bolt. The detent is normally held in its locking position by a cam surface on the thrower and by a pack of detainers. Rotation of the correct key aligns notches in the detainers with a probe on the detent and also positions a second cam surface of the thrower adjacent to the detent, so the detent can pivot to its unlocking position under the action of a spring, and thereby free the bolt. After the bolt is shifted the final rotation of the key re-engages the cam surface against the detent to drive the detent positively back to its locking position. If required, the bolt can be double-thrown by a second ("master") key which lifts the detainers to higher positions so that second notches in the detainers now align with the detent probe. This higher lifting of the detainers also lifts a dogging slide so that the stump of the latter can pass over a projection on the bolt tail.

  • Patent number: 4412437
Abstract: A rekeyable cylinder lock includes removeable spacers between top and bottom tumbler pins, and a key bit device for removing a spacer from the pin chamber through the key way. The key bit device includes bitting thereon to position the spacer in the top pin chamber and a cut in the opposite side thereof adapted to capture the spacer from the top pin chamber and remove it from the lock. The spacer is preferably smaller in diameter than the tumbler pins, and the cut is large enough to receive the spacer but too small to receive the tumbler pin. In another embodiment of the invention, a key bit device is provided for placing a spacer into a pin chamber of the lock to rekey the lock. It includes a mechanism, such as a spring, in a cut on the back side of the key bit that is adapted to force a spacer out of the cut and into the pin chamber in the lock.

  • Patent number: 4403486
Abstract: A tumbler lock comprising housing pockets in an outer housing and plug pockets in a cylindrical plug rotatably mounted in the housing holding slidably outer and inner pins respectively, auxiliary pockets in the housing corresponding to the plug pockets at a certain rotated position circumferentially spaced from the housing pockets holding therein auxiliary pins, and change pins which may be interpositioned between the inner, outer and auxiliary pins and interchanged between the respective pockets so that the change pins may be freely shifted to reset the back to be operated by different keys.

  • Patent number: 4376382
Abstract: A resettable single-barrel single-plug cylindrical two section lock assembly is provided wherever master keying is required. The lock of the invention is intended to be operated and reset by three different keys. One key (#1 key) is used to turn the lock to a position in which it may be reset by either of the other two keys. One of the other two keys (#2 key) operates a first section of the dual lock; and the other of the other of the two keys (#3 key) operates a second section of the lock which is independent of the first section. Either section may be reset by inserting the existing #2 or #3 key into the lock once the lock has been turned by the (#1) key to a predetermined position, and then turning the lock to the reset position, and after the existing key has been withdrawn, turning the lock back to its normal operating position by the new key, either the #2 or #3 keys, depending upon which section of the lock is being re-keyed.

  • Patent number: 3998080
Abstract: A pin tumbler lock has a housing, a cylindrical key plug provided with a keyway rotatable in the housing, a shear line between the plug and the housing, pin tumbler bores with aligned parts respectively in the housing and the key plug and spring pressed outer and inner pin tumblers in each bore. In one of the bores is an extra frangible graphite tumbler of substantially the diameter of the other pin tumblers. When construction key is inserted in the keyway the graphite tumbler and the other pin tumblers meets at the shear line permitting the lock to unlock. When construction is finished a conversion key is inserted in the keyway and the graphite tumbler is shifted to a position crossing the shear line whereupon the graphite tumbler is shattered by rotation of the key plug. Thereafter the lock can not be unlocked by the construction key but can be unlocked by the householder's key.
