Abstract: The invention relates to a device for starting a motor vehicle motor. According to the invention, a slot is (11) used for inserting (59) the key (50) which is usually closed by a spring-loaded cover (14). The key (50) is displaced in the slot (11) into various key positions (20.1), in order to control different functions of the motor or other ancillary devices in the vehicle. In order to ensure a compact construction which is easy to use, the inventive device prevents the key (50) from turning in the slot (11) and the key (50) is displaced into at least three operating positions (20.1) for the control functions which are axially staggered. After being inserted for a first operating distance (51), the key takes up an initial position (20.1), in which it is secured in the slot (11) in a force-fit. In a subsequent second intermediate position, the key (50) is secured in a positive fit which can be locked automatically. This prevents the manual withdrawal (57) of the key (50).

Abstract: A device for actuating a lock on a door or hinged lid, particularly for a vehicle, includes a momentary contact switch and a lock cylinder having tumblers which are transferred between a blocked position and an unblocked position by a key. In the locked position, the tumblers interact with a locking edge which is released only in the unblocked position. The travelling motion of the momentary contact switch is transferred to an entry element of the lock only in the unblocked position. The lock cylinder is arranged in a manner that prevents it from twisting, and the blocking edge is configured to move transversely in relation to the tumblers. This transverse motion is caused by the traveling motion of the momentary contact switch. The blocked position of the tumblers prevents the transverse movement of the blocking edge. The traveling motion of the momentary contact switch is then only transferred to the lock when the transverse motion of the blocking edge is possible.

The improvement concerns a chamber having a partition which defines a first pocket to receive the extended bolt and maintain the lock in the locked position. The partition also defines a second pocket to receive the extended bolt when the lock is in the unlocked position. To move the lock between the unlocked and locked position the key must be inserted to retract the bolt clear of the partition.

  • Patent number: 4418554
Abstract: A key operated locking mechanism comprises a cylinder housing, an axially displaceable cylinder core which rotates in a cylindrical opening in the cylinder housing and which is movable axially between a locking position and an unlocking position, a locking bolt movable by said core between locking and unlocking positions, and plate tumblers on said core which project, in the axially displaced locking position of the cylinder core, beyond the external surface thereof when the key has been withdrawn. In the cylindrical opening in the cylinder housing there is provided at least one contact surface, which is arranged so as to be transverse of the lock axis and is directed towards the locking bolt, for cooperation with a portion of at least one of said plate tumblers that surmounts the cylinder core surface at a point with which the surmounting portion is in abutting contact in that axial position of the cylinder core in which the locking bolt is in its locking position.

  • Patent number: 4318288
Abstract: A tamper-resistant steering column lock incorporating an improved combination lock is disclosed. The improved combination lock includes an array of discs, each having an electrically conductive member extending therethrough. The disc at one end of the array is connected to the active terminal of the vehicle's electrical system and the disc at the other end of the array is grounded. When the discs are rotated to align the electrically conductive members, a circuit is completed to a solenoid or the like which regulates movement of a locking bolt between its locked and unlocked positions.

  • Patent number: 3943737
Abstract: A lock mechanism comprises a plug slidably to a home position into a cavity of a block which plug has a recess for receiving side-by-side plates.Said block has a receptacle for receiving a similar set of spring biased plates. The front base of said plug a keyway with rectangular cross section communicates with said recess at a position close to the bottom thereof. A key is also provided for said mechanism which is made up of as many bars as are the plates. The plates in said recess have a bevelled corner. The bevel plane of the plates and of the key bars being the same. When the key is inserted home into said plug the bevelled point of each bar of the key engages the bevelled corner of a corresponding plate in the recess and lifts it to come flush with its upper edge with said recess aperture whereby the mechanism is unlocked. When the key is withdrawn from said slot the plates in said receptacle are moved by the related springs to enter the plug recess and block the mechanism thereby.
