Cylinder And Plug Assembly Patents (Class 70/367)
  • Patent number: 6968717
Abstract: A cylinder lock utilizing an unlocking code to set at any desired time after the cylinder lock has been assembled and which, before the setting of the unlocking code, allows the rotor to be rotated for the purpose of inproving the efficiency of the automotive assembly work. The cylinder lock includes a rotor in which tumblers are installed, is rotatably inserted in a cylinder case, the tumblers following a code forming portion of an inserted key plate to form a lock-side unlocking code that matches a key-side unlocking code defined by the code forming portion. The tumblers are put in a state where the lock-side unlocking code is formed, in response to an identification portion formed in the key plate.

Abstract: Pop-Up Indicator, Replacement Lock-Cylinder with distinctive keys for owner, employee (or acquaintance), and some third party whose right to enter is legitimate only upon notice or in an emergency. The pop-up indicators are brightly and differently colored. The lock cannot be circumvented by pressing a pop-up in and endeavoring to turn the key, because the pop-up's barrel blocks rotation of the lock's core unless the pop-up is fully extended. Once triggered, the pop-up remains visible and in locked position until the lock owner resets it. A tactile indicator of sought entry is transmitted to the owner upon key insertion and rotation, as well. Meanwhile, the employee and/or third party enjoys unimpeded access. The owner will thus know whether the employee has been over—to inspect for termites, walk the dog, etc.—and the third party cannot allege lockout lease breaking. The lock operates quite normally with either or both pop-ups triggered.

  • Patent number: 5634359
Abstract: A lock mechanism has a cylindrical housing with an axial bore therethrough, and a key-controlled core rotatable within the bore between locked and unlocked conditions and removable from and installable in the bore in the unlocked condition. The core has a plug at its rear end which is mateably engageable in a socket on the front face of a shifter, for rotating the shifter within the bore in response to rotation of the core, and thereby operating a latch member coupled to the shifter. A radial tab on the housing is receivable in an arcuate groove formed in the outer surface of the shifter for limiting rotation of the shifter to facilitate retention of the shifter in the single rotational orientation upon removal of the core from the housing. An O-ring on the shifter frictionally inhibits rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5630331
Abstract: A cylinder shaft projects from a key cylinder along the center line of a sleeve, and first and second case shafts project from a case. A spring is coiled on the first case shaft, and the cylinder shaft is placed between the first and second case shafts. The cylinder shaft and the second case shaft are placed between both legs of the spring. When the key cylinder is rotated with respect to the sleeve by the proper key being inserted in the key cylinder, the spring imparts returning force to the cylinder shaft that is making an arcuate movement in a circular-arc groove formed in the case.

  • Patent number: 5551268
Abstract: A retainer assembly for attaching a lock cylinder to a door panel, the lock cylinder having a length and a plurality of radially spaced flanges disposed on and raised outwardly therefrom. The retainer assembly comprises a retainer clip having at least two laterally spaced apart flanges, the at least two laterally spaced apart flanges preventing rotational movement of the lock cylinder when the lock cylinder is engaged with the retainer clip. A base is provided having a first side, a second side, and an open-ended slot. The base is connected to the retainer clip at the second side. The open-ended slot is provided for slidingly engaging the lock cylinder such that upon engagement of the lock cylinder, the base flatly abuts against the door panel on the first side and the retainer clip abuts against the plurality of radially spaced flanges of the lock cylinder.

Abstract: A key 20 is formed with a blade 22 having six bits 30, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 formed along one edge of the blade. A shoulder 42 is formed on a trailing end 28 of blade 22 and is positioned to cooperate with a front face 82 of a plug 50 of a five-pin cylinder lock 46 to locate bits 30, 32, 34, 36 and 38 adjacent five respective sets of tumbler pins in the operation of the lock. Key 20 can also be used with a six-pin cylinder lock 110. Shoulder 42 is moved through a slot 130 in a front face 134 of a plug 114 of lock 110 and engages a stop surface 132 whereby bits 30, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 are properly positioned adjacent six respective sets of tumbler pins in the operation of the lock.

  • Patent number: 5491993
Abstract: A lock having a housing and flange, a lock cylinder, a cam lever, and a lock nut. The housing has a length which is slightly less than the thickness of the panel into which it is to be inserted. Its exterior surface has axial ridges which engage with the inner surface of the panel hole in which the housing is inserted. The ridges preferably extend only a short distance from the flange. These ridges hold the housing in place and prevent it from turning in the panel hole. The lock cylinder, which fits within the housing, has a threaded portion extending outwardly to receive the cam lever and the lock nut. Tightening up on the lock nut serves to draw the housing fully into the hole and to clamp the housing in place. The lock cylinder is keyed to the inner surface of the housing; and the cam lever is keyed to the threaded portion.

  • Patent number: 5479800
Abstract: A key lock mechanism which can be made entirely of molded plastic parts having (1) a lock shell that can be snap fit in a mounting opening, wherein the shell is a predominantly cylindrical casing having a front end, a rear end, and an interior longitudinal channel; and (2) a lock plug, having a front end and a rear end, longitudinally housed within and rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the shell. The front end of the lock plug has a keyway allowing the insertion of a key to operate a double-acting, bar tumbler having a rocker body with a front peg and rear peg; an integral axle perpendicular to and connecting the center rocker body to a left and a right pivot pad upon which the bar tumbler pivots. The insertion of the key pivots the bar tumbler within the longitudinal shell channel and enables the key to turn the plug within the shell to operate the lock. The rear end of the plug receives a snap on actuation means such as a cam.

  • Patent number: 5428978
Abstract: A cylinder lock device (10) includes a lever (15) rotatably disposed between a casing (11) and a key cylinder (13), and a blocking member (17) disposed within a notch (16) formed in the lever (15). A concavity (18) are formed on an inner wall of the casing (11), and a chamfer (19) is formed on the key cylinder (13). When the lever (15) is in the locked position and the key cylinder (13) is further rotated to the dead-locked position over the locked position, the blocking member (17) moves away from the chamfer (19) of the key cylinder (13) and into the concavity (18) of the casing (11). When the key is pulled out from the key cylinder in the dead-locked position, the locking device is forcibly maintained in the locked position to prevent unauthorized unlocking.

  • Patent number: 5121618
Abstract: An attachment (9) which transforms a lock cylinder having a cylinder housing (30), an aligning bracket (27), and a cylinder core 41a into a lock cylinder with an interchangeable core (40a). The interchangeable core (40a) is held in place and is attached to the interchangeable attachment (9) using a conventional cylinder core nut (21). With a control key (50) inserted into the cylinder keyway (42) within an interchangeable core (40a), a push rod (51) comes into contact with a plunger head (19) at the front end of the plunger (11). The plunger (11) is pushed back, allowing the locking balls (13) to recede into the inward position; at this point, the only thing holding the interchangeable core lock cylinder (40a) in the cylinder housing (30) is the security back-up pin (14). With the control key (50) inserted, turn right five degrees and pull. The interchangeable core lock cylinder (40a) will come out. A new interchangeable core lock cylinder (40a) can be inserted using the same procedure.
