  • Patent number: 8596729
Abstract: A locking system or a storage unit with the locking system, includes a locking core and a connected cammed lever. A user can rotate the core and lever about an axis when a latch is disengaged from a detent. When the latch is engaged with the detent, the core and the cammed lever are prevented from rotating about the axis. When the locking assembly is installed within the storage unit, the latch may be configured to strike a guide associated with a locking bar assembly, so that when the latch is moved to an unlatched position, the locking core and the lever are free to rotate, operating the locking bar between locked and unlocked positions. When the latch is withdrawn away from the guide, the latch engages with the detent to prevent movement of the lever and locking core relative to the locking assembly, to retain the lever and locking core in a desired, predetermined orientation.

  • Patent number: 6446475
Abstract: A switchlock assembly with snap-in cam for mounting in a panel from the front with the panel cutout being smaller than the cam radius. The switchlock assembly comprises a switch base, a shell, a plug operable by a key, the cam and a latch clip. The latch clip prevents the plug from being removed from the shell. The latch clip also secures the cam within the plug and prevents the cam from being removed, but does not prevent the cam from rotating when a key is inserted into the plug of the switchlock assembly and turned. Switch tumblers and tumbler splines enable a key to be pulled out in a designated position, but not to allow the key to be pulled out 180 degrees from the designated key pull position.

  • Patent number: 5987946
Abstract: Method and apparatus for non-destructively picking locks which normally are operated by keys, such locks capable of having twisting tumbler pins and sidebars. The method requires that: the pins be raised high in the keyway; the plug be axially bored by a thin drill which enters through a low portion of the keyway, the rear end of the drilled bore opening to the bolt cam operator; the drill bit be removed from the bore; and then the bolt cam operator be directly turned to shift open the bolt. This method does not decode the tumblers nor release any sidebar. The preferred apparatus comprises a pin raiser tool, which is self-retaining due to bias on the pins, which is transmitted to the handle of this tool; and a torquing tool, which is passed through the bore and has a blade which seats in the cam operator for turning the operator to shift open the lock bolt. A unique safety shield can be installed on the tailpiece to prevent picking by the method of this invention.
