  • Patent number: 6038897
Abstract: A mechanism for locking the back cover of a combination lock to the lock housing is described having two sequentially and phased moveable parts, each having an aperture through which a locking member may be inserted, the apertures are disposed in parts moveable in parallel and adjacent planes and a portion of each aperture is at all times aligned with the other aperture such that a third member may extend through the apertures. The apertures have enlarged portions which will pass the third member and channel portions which prevent withdrawal of the third member while permitting movement of the moveable parts. The third member is carried by the back cover of the lock and can only be withdrawn by sequentially withdrawing from a first moveable part, shifting the moveable parts to a second position and withdrawing from the second moveable part.

  • Patent number: 5946954
Abstract: A door bushing system includes bushings formed as part of a molded resin door jamb in an insulated steel shell safe door. The mold for the door jamb is designed to form as many bushings as are required and can also form stubs or sleeves for mounting other safe components. The bushings can support parts of such components as combination locks, key locks, and door handles. The combination lock and the handle have spindles whose opposite ends have identical configurations to facilitate assembly. The spindles are also made from resinous material to reduce heat transmission and to allow attachment by insert molding. Because the bushings are installed automatically with the door jamb, this door bushing system eliminates the need for separate installation of bushings after assembly of the door, ensuring proper alignment and reducing costs.

  • Patent number: 5511401
Abstract: A combination lock/deadbolt assembly connection technique is disclosed for connecting the bolt of the combination lock to the deadbolt of the deadbolt assembly to provide a lost motion connection while at the same time to retain the ability to position a magnetic anti-attack interlock within the bolt of the combination lock. A connecting shaft is disposed between the bolt and the deadbolt and a spring bias force introduced between the two bolts. The shaft may be attached rigidly at one end to either the lock bolt or deadbolt. The opposite end is loosely attached by retaining rings or retaining rings to accommodate the movement of the loosely attached bolt with respect to the shaft thereby providing a lost motion connection. A compression spring is disposed intermediate to the lock bolt and the deadbolt to provide a separating or extending force.

  • Patent number: 5479802
Abstract: A method of installing a combination lock deadbolt assembly includes the steps of providing a combination lock deadbolt assembly for mounting on a door surface in combination with a drill resistant hard plate. The hard plate, mounted on the outer door surface, includes legs extending through the door for attachment to the deadbolt assembly. A drill guide is provided having a tapered outer surface which corresponds to tapered openings in the combination lock deadbolt assembly. In use, the tapered drill guide is inserted into the openings in the deadbolt followed by insertion of a drill bit which drills holes through the door. After drilling each hole, the larger holes are drilled to facilitate attachment leg insertion into the door. The deadbolt can then be mounted to the door surface and to the drill resistant hard plate. A combination dial lock can then be mounted in the deadbolt assembly.

  • Patent number: 5257519
Abstract: A dead bolt assembly for use with a combination dial lock assembly includes a housing structure adapted to receive a combination dial lock assembly. The housing structure includes a bolt hold back assembly which prevents extension of a dead bolt into a door strike. The bolt hold back assembly is operable from the inside of the door preventing manipulation of the combination dial on the outside of the door. Arranging the bolt hold back assembly in the housing permits ease of replacement and/or repair of standard or off the shelf type combination locks with the dead bolt assembly. The dead bolt assembly also includes a spring loaded pin arrangement which avoids a lockout situation. The housing structure includes a slot in the back plate which facilitates installation and/or removal of a combination dial lock assembly by permitting the lock shaft to slide into the housing structure without requiring removal of the combination dial or lock casing.

Once the bolt is retracted by the lever these hook fingers engage with an associated combination disc and move it out of its predetermined position to a random position thereby scrambling or self-canceling the combination or the placement of the discs. Accordingly, it is not possible to predict the precise position of the combination discs after the bolt has been retracted and the door opened.
