Abstract: A latch handle (20) includes a grip portion (22) and a housing portion (24) with a spindle (28) extending therefrom to actuate a latch. The handle (20) rotates about an escutcheon (26) and is configured for receiving two or more padlocks. The handle grip portion (22) includes a padlock receiving portion (32) while the escutcheon (26) has a raised portion (34) aligning with the lock receiving portion (32). The escutcheon (26) takes on a second embodiment (126) for rotation in an opposite direction. A defeater device (30) includes a retainer (40) coupled to a plunger member (50). The plunger member (50) slides axially within a bore (70) and rotates relative to an insert (60). The insert includes a cammed surface (62) which receives tabs (52) of the plunger member (50). The plunger member (50) is biased by compression spring (48) and torsion spring (56) to urge the tabs (52) against the cammed surface (62) so that the plunger member (50) moves axially as the retainer (40) is rotated.

Abstract: A field conversion means to convert a knob-handle cylindrical lockset either with or without a key cylinder, installed in a door, to a lever-handle cylindrical lockset without changing any existing original key cylinder. The conversion means comprises an inside and an outside means, each including a lever-handle, a drive cartridge adaptor cylinder and a rosette or escutcheon containing a helical spring and a positive stop disk. The spring is biased to oppose droop of said lever-handle from a normal horizontal position and to oppose downward operating force, applied to said lever-handle and is increasingly biased when the lever is operated to oppose downward rotation of the lever. Stop means are provided in the rosette or escutcheon to limit the angular rotational travel of said lever-handle. Differently sized adapters are provided to permit the conversion of different sized cylindrical locks.

Abstract: In a steering lock for motor vehicles, a lock cylinder having a rotor and a stator is received in a tubular steering lock housing. A tubular end section of the lock housing and lock cylinder is enclosed by a pot-shaped cap made from a high strength material. In the steering lock housing, in a radially displaceable arrangement, there is mounted at least one locking element which is spring-biased .in the radial outward direction to protrude into an inner ring groove of the cap to prevent axial displacement of the cap when in a locked position. The at least one locking element can be slid, in a certain rotational setting of the rotor, into a notch in the rotor and can thereupon be moved out of the inner groove of the cap. For this displacement of the locking element into the notch of the rotor, there is secured along the base of the inner groove a circumferential spring wire.

Abstract: A door security system is used in conjunction with a lock such as a deadbolt lock having an "inside" located actuating handle, of the type used in hotel rooms, having a major and a minor dimensional axis. The security device has a baseplate that fits beneath the faceplate of the lock and which can be oriented during installation in relation to the shaped actuating handle of the lock. The baseplate of the security device extends eccentrically off center and supports a pivot post that carries a latch locking plate. The locking plate is pivotally supported on the pivot post, for pivotal rotation thereabout, and has an arcuate passage off-set from the pivot post, in use to receive the lock actuating handle. In use, with the baseplate installed beneath the faceplate of the lock and the lock handle rotated to extend the bolt, the locking plate may be rotated about the pivot post, swinging the arcuate passage over the lock handle in immobilizing relation therewith.

Abstract: A door handle assembly having a snap-in attachment apparatus for assembling a key cylinder to a door handle assembly without the use of separate fasteners and retainers. The door handle assembly has a bored tubular extension that utilizes slots to define tubular sections that yield radially outward upon inserting the key cylinder into the bore of the tubular extension. The tubular sections have openings that receive lugs extending from the periphery of the key cylinder and that prohibit inward axial movement and rotary movement of the key cylinder. A shoulder in the door handle assembly abuts an end of the key cylinder to prohibit outward axial movement of the key cylinder. The engaging surfaces of the lugs and tubular sections have drafted angles that pull the tubular sections radially inward toward the key cylinder upon a push-in force applied to the key cylinder from outside the vehicle and directed toward the center of the vehicle.
