Pin Tumblers Patents (Class 70/493)
  • Patent number: 5956986
Abstract: On a cylinder lock (1) tumblers (10) are disposed which extend parallel to the broad side (8, 9) of the lock channel (6). The ends of these tumblers (10) block between the rotor (3) and the stator (4). On the rear side (17), facing away from the key channel (6), of the tumblers (10) are disposed additional codings. These codings cooperate with additional two-part blocking elements (20). These blocking elements (20) are displaceable at right angles to the lock axis and block in addition in the region of the shear line (32) between rotor (3) and stator (4). Therewith additional blocking combinations are possible and the security of the lock against unauthorized opening is increased.

  • Patent number: 5943890
Abstract: A lock mechanism has at least one tumbler pin having one or more slots in the tip surface of the pin and a key blade which is formed with a projection extending from the surface of the bitting area. The tumbler pin can be rotatable in such a manner that it will seek to accommodate the projection on the surface of the key and to match the surfaces of the key and tumbler pin tip, thus aligning the tumbler pin at a position predetermined by the key bitting. In this regard, the tumbler pin tip is preferably tapered and adapted to engage with a key having a complementarily shaped bitting surface, i.e., complementary to the tapered surface of the tumbler pin tip, such that the tumbler pin will seek to accommodate the tapered surface of the key bitting to align the tumbler pin at a proper position. Alternatively, the tumbler pin can include a projection or the like to inhibit rotation of the tumbler pin.

  • Patent number: 5079936
Abstract: A cylinder lock is provided which comprises a cylindrical housing; a core which is rotatably mounted in the housing, thereby defining a shear line; a first tumbler slidably disposed in a first aperture; means for moving the first tumbler between a locked and an unlocked position; a second tumbler slidably disposed in a second aperture; and means for moving the second tumbler between a locked and an unlocked position. When the lock is in the locked position, the first tumbler extends across the shear line into the first aperture of the core. When a correct key is inserted into the keyway, the first tumbler is urged completely into the core below the shear line. The second tumbler is arranged such that when the lock is in the locked position, the second tumbler extends across the shear line and such that when the correct key is inserted, the second tumbler is urged completely into the housing above the shear line.

  • Patent number: 5016455
Abstract: A cylinder lock system employing a key having a projection extending from each opposing parallel edge of the key blade, the projections respectively operating an auxiliary pin tumbler stack and cooperating with a groove in the lock shell to retain the key in the lock after plug rotation from the key insertion position. The key retaining projection also cooperates with the driver pin of the auxiliary pin tumbler stack to prevent key trapping, i.e., the presence and size of the retaining projections keeps the auxiliary driver pin from engaging the keyway. The cooperation between the key retaining projection and the auxiliary driver pin is permitted by providing the lock with two shear lines, located on different diameters, which are simultaneously operable by a single key.

  • Patent number: 5000019
Abstract: The cylinder lock of the present disclosure includes a cylinder housing having either two or three rows of cylinder holes therein. The cylinder holes are in communication with an elongated cylindrical bore in which is inserted a cylindrical plug having a single row of plug holes. The plug can be rotated to each of the two or three rows of cylinder holes in order to permit the exchange of various pins within the cylinder holes and thereby permit the recording of the lock. One modification of the invention utilizes a notch adjacent one of the plug holes for permitting the key to rotate in one direction, but for preventing the key from rotating in another direction. A further modification utilizes an enlarged pin in one of the rows of cylinder holes so as to permit an access key to unlock the lock once, but preventing the access key from unlocking the lock a second time.

  • Patent number: 4856309
Abstract: A pin tumbler lock comprises a cylindrical shell, a plug fitted within the shell, and rotatable by key means. The plug has first bores for receiving first pin tumblers. The first bores are substantially normal to the axis of the plug. The shell has second bores for receiving second pin tumblers therein. The second bores are aligned with first bore. First and second pin tumblers are located in bores. The second pin tumblers are forced by a spring into the aligned first bores to thereby prevent rotation of the plug. The first and second pin tumblers have substantially mating surfaces at respective ends providing contact along their entire length. The plug includes two grooves in a plane normal to the axis of the plug along its periphery, one groove on each side adjacent to first bores, thereby providing a non-linear shear line between the plug and the shell.
