Thermally Controlled Patents (Class 70/DIG10)
  • Patent number: 5782509
Abstract: In a door closure assembly, the combination comprising a latch bolt element; carrier structure to carry the bolt element to pivot between door unlatched and latched position; and means carried by a fire resistant portion of the assembly to be responsive to an increase in temperature to a level T to move into position to block door unlatching movement of the bolt element from door latching position.

  • Patent number: 5104164
Abstract: The invention provides a lock with a forward and reverse action bolt element and a lock cylinder which precedes the operating region of the bolt element into which the force for shifting the bolt element is to be introduced. The lock comprises an arresting element which can be fused at least locally by the effect of heat on the lock cylinder and which, after fusion, arrests the bolt element against reverse lock actuation. In an alternative embodiment, the lock may comprise a coupling between the operating region and a lock-actuating element spatially separated from it and protected by the lock cylinder, which coupling can be broken by fusion due to the effect of heat on the lock cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4380097
Abstract: A product monitoring device including a releasable locking device adapted to be secured to a product and actuatable between locked and unlocked positions. The locking device consists of a pair of movable members, one of which mounts a bimetallic member consisting of bimetal elements having different temperature coefficients of expansion, the bimetal elements being separated by an insulator. The locking device includes a detent cooperatively associated with the bimetallic member to maintain the members in a locked position. The device uses an electrifiable key for heating the bimetallic elements to effect displacement thereof relative to the detent to facilitate movement of the members to an unlocked position. The device incorporates structural features which increase strength in operation, and further serve to make unauthorized opening and/or breakage of portions, with the intent of permitting separation from an article to which attached, more difficult.

  • Patent number: 4184349
Abstract: This is a burglar-proof door for apartments or houses and it is held closed by bolts extending from within the door and into sockets in the frame that surrounds the door. The door has hinges, but in the preferred construction there are four bolts, one on each edge of the door so that the door cannot be opened by removal of the pins from the hinges. An electric motor operates, when a magnetically-coded card is inserted in a slot in the outside of the door, to lock or unlock the door when a handle is turned one way or the other. When there is a serious fire in the apartment or the house, a thermostat causes the door to unlock automatically.

  • Patent number: 4165359
Abstract: A sterilizer or aseptor for contact lenses and the like is disclosed, which provides a capsule adapted to both carry and sterilize a single set of contact lenses. The sterilizer includes a well adapted to receive the capsule, and when the well is heated, sterilizing action occurs within the capsule. A cover is locked into a closed position to prohibit access to the capsule and well when the well is heated to an elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 4117701
Abstract: This invention relates to a locking device having a latching element movable between a locking position and an inoperative position, operating means for moving the latching element, a blocking member movable to a blocking position for mechanically preventing the latching element from moving to its inoperative position. According to the invention, a plurality of thermally responsive elements are arranged or are individually bendable to form thermally responsive holding means for adopting a holding condition to temporarily hold the blocking member in the blocking position and, preferably, also to form thermally responsive safety means for normally adopting an inoperative condition.
