  • Patent number: 11899438
Abstract: A distributed control system can be used to implement failover capabilities for control units that control well equipment during a well operation. For example, a system can include first well equipment that performs a first physical task and second well equipment that performs a second physical task different from the first physical task. Additionally, the system can include a distributed control system with a first control unit coupled to the first well equipment and a second control unit coupled to the second well equipment. Both control units may include a first control module and a second control module for automatically controlling the first physical task and the second physical task, respectively. The distributed control system can detect a failure of the second control unit and initiate a failover process in which the first control unit takes over control of the second physical task by enabling the second control module.

  • Patent number: 9041337
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for generating a constraint-based, time-optimal motion profile for controlling the trajectory of a point-to-point move in a motion control system. A profile generator can calculate an ST-curve motion profile that includes a jerk reference that varies continuously over time for at least one of the motion profile segments, thereby producing a smooth, time-optimal trajectory. The profile generator can create the motion profile to conform to a set of motion constraints provided by the user. The profile generator also supports calculation of time-optimal motion profiles having segments that align to the sample time of the motion control system. In some embodiments, the profile generator can efficiently generate the motion profile by performing reference calculations only for those segments that will be used in the final motion profile for a given point-to-point move.

  • Patent number: 8831789
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that facilitate dynamic load shedding control in an industrial environment in accordance with one or more production goals provided by a user. One or more production goals for system of industrial load devices (e.g., target product output, desired maximum peak energy demand, and the like) can be provided to a policy engine, which generates goal-based criteria in a standardized format based on the production goals. The goal-based criteria can be provided to a load modulation component, which uses the criteria to calculate load shed priorities for respective load devices on the system designed to ensure that the one or more specified production goals are achieved. • Patent number: 8332202
Abstract: A technique for enhancing the execution efficiency of simulation of a hybrid system. A continuous system simulator receives a request for evaluation of an event generating conditional expression for an event to be processed by a discrete system simulator, from the discrete system simulator. The event generating conditional expression is evaluated by referring to the value of a first variable describing a continuous system. Until evaluation of the event generating conditional expression indicates true, the continuous system simulator repeats simulation of advancing the current time by a step time interval and evaluation of the event generating conditional expression. When evaluation of the event generating conditional expression indicates true, the continuous system simulator sends current time data and the value of a second variable describing the continuous system which is referred to by the discrete simulator, to the discrete simulator.

  • Patent number: 8054316
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting pictures minimizes the impact on graphics processing performance of a discrete processor. A hybrid system configuration includes the discrete processor and an integrated processor, where the discrete processor typically consumes more power and provides greater processing performance compared with the integrated processor. A picture is produced by a video or graphics engine of a discrete processor within a hybrid system. Each picture is then transferred to a back buffer in the host processing memory. The picture is analyzed to produce picture analysis results that are used to generate adjustment settings. The back buffer is swapped to become the front buffer and the adjustment settings are applied to the picture by an integrated processor to display an adjusted picture. The adjustment may be used in conjunction with power saving techniques to maintain the image quality when display backlighting is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7003593
Abstract: A computer system architecture and memory controller for close-coupling within a hybrid computing system using an adaptive processor interface port (“APIP”) added to, or in conjunction with, the memory and I/O controller chip of the core logic. Memory accesses to and from this port, as well as the main microprocessor bus, are then arbitrated by the memory control circuitry forming a portion of the controller chip. In this fashion, both the microprocessors and the adaptive processors of the hybrid computing system exhibit equal memory bandwidth and latency. In addition, because it is a separate electrical port from the microprocessor bus, the APIP is not required to comply with, and participate in, all FSB protocol. This results in reduced protocol overhead which results higher yielded payload on the interface.
