Abstract: One way to improve fuel efficiency of a vehicle is to detect the vehicle operational shortcomings related to fuel consumption by determining whether fuel used during operation of the vehicle is normal fuel use or wasted fuel use. Considerations of idling, speeding and inappropriate gear shifts are some ways to measure the amount of fuel wasted due to operator shortcomings. Communicating this information to the operator in real-time so adjustments can be made will improve vehicle fuel efficiency. Abstract: A single-wire bus (SuBUS) slave circuit is provided. The SuBUS slave circuit is coupled to a SuBUS bridge circuit via a SuBUS and can be configured to perform a slave task that may block communication on the SuBUS. Notably, the SuBUS slave circuit may not be equipped with an accurate timing reference source that can determine a precise timing for terminating the slave task and unblock the SuBUS. Instead, the SuBUS slave circuit is configured to terminate the slave task and unblock the SuBUS based on a self-determined slave free-running-oscillator count derived from a start-of-sequence training sequence that precedes any SuBUS telegram of a predefined SuBUS operation, even though the SuBUS operation is totally unrelated to the slave task. As such, it may be possible to eliminate the accurate timing reference source from the SuBUS slave circuit, thus helping to reduce cost and current drain in the SuBUS slave circuit.

  • Patent number: 10788007
Abstract: A method for safely capturing an engine RPM threshold in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine which may exceed the maximum safe unloaded RPM for that engine. Typical engines having a safe RPM high speed redline when coupled to a load, and a reduced RPM redline when decoupled and unloaded, can be set to activate ancillary equipment at a high redline, engine loaded RPM by deriving and processing data from the engine at a low, unloaded reduced RPM speed. The method requires operator reference to an existing OEM or after-market tachometer which enables the user to set a low RPM reference point while the engine is unloaded and running at a slow RPM. Raw data from the latter low RPM reference point selected by a user is safely captured to form a raw threshold while the engine is operating unloaded, and a higher RPM operating threshold is calculated and set from the raw threshold. The higher RPM operating threshold may exceed the maximum safe unloaded RPM for said engine.

  • Patent number: 9667528
Abstract: In order to facilitate efficient and scalable lookup of current hop limits of transmitted packets, a communications device embeds hop limit values along with other connection parameters in a connection data structure. To transmit a packet for a particular connection, the communications device retrieves the data structure for the particular connection and applies the hop limit value embedded in the data structure to the packet for transmission. To keep track of the hop limits being embedded in different data structures of different connections, the communications device use a binary search in which each node of the search tree correspond to a different connection. The communications device maintains one such search tree per communications interface.

  • Patent number: 9501434
Abstract: A rewriting area of a flash ROM stores a main program, which includes a user vector with respect to each of interrupt factors that are different from each other in respect of types. The user vector with respect to a subject interrupt factor indicates an address, which stores an interrupt processing program that is executed when the subject interrupt factor arises. This user vector is stored in a predetermined address dedicated for the subject interrupt factor. The predetermined address of the user vector is enabled to be specified by an interrupt vector or interrupt changeover program, both of which are stored in a non-rewriting area of the flash ROM. Even when an address of the interrupt processing program is changed, the changed address is enabled to be indicated by using the user vector.

  • Patent number: 9401057
Abstract: A computing device is connected to a motor vehicle's diagnostic port or communication port to acquire vehicle sensor data, for example from various pressure, temperature, oxygen, fuel and other sensors typically installed on a motor vehicle for other reasons. Acquired sensor data is wirelessly transmitted to a remote server where the acquired sensor data can be compared to a database of stored sensor data to identify the motor vehicle. Additional functionality is described that leverages uploaded sensor data. Sensor data may be uploaded to the server in near-real time, and/or buffered locally and uploaded by periodic or episodic, push or pull communication protocols.

  • Patent number: 9284891
Abstract: In a control apparatus for a variable valve mechanism that varies a valve characteristic of an engine valve, in a saturated state in which a calculated manipulated variable of the variable valve mechanism exceeds an outputtable manipulated variable, convergence to a desired position is achieved while suppressing a response delay and an overshoot. If a feedforward manipulated variable calculated according to a reference response exceeds an outputtable limit manipulated variable, a saturating amount (feedforward manipulated variable—limit manipulated variable) is integrated. Upon completion of the integration, the feedforward manipulated variable is corrected based on an FF manipulated variable correction amount, and the integrated value of saturating amount is replaced by a value obtained by subtracting the FF manipulated variable correction amount each time a correction is made.

  • Patent number: 9246506
Abstract: The semiconductor integrated circuit device has: more than one analog port; an A/D conversion part operable to execute an A/D conversion process for converting an analog signal taken in through each analog port into a digital signal for each preset virtual channel; and an A/D conversion control part operable to control an action of the A/D conversion part. The A/D conversion control part includes: virtual channel registers on which correspondence between the virtual channel and the analog port can be set; and a scan-group-forming register on which a start position of a scan group and an end position thereof can be set. The A/D conversion control part controls the A/D conversion part to successively execute an A/D conversion process on a plurality of virtual channels from a virtual channel associated with the start pointer to a virtual channel associated with the end pointer.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to improved systems and methods for providing a catalyst to an internal combustion engine. To this end, the systems and methods described herein may redirect a measured flow of pressurized air from an existing engine air flow through a catalyst reservoir to create a catalytic aerosol or mist. The aerosol or mist may be reinjected or delivered to the air intake of an engine. In various embodiments, the systems and methods disclosed herein utilize an existing engine air flow to produce a catalytic aerosol and/or mist rather than utilizing electric pumps or Venturi draws. Air flow may be controlled, adjusted, and/or optimized based upon an engine to which the disclosed systems are coupled based upon one or more passive flow control components (e.g., filters, restrictors, orifices, and/or valves).
