  • Patent number: 10273867
Abstract: A thermal management system includes an electric coolant pump, power source, and controller. The pump is in fluid communication with a heat source and a radiator, and has pump sensors for determining a pump voltage, speed, and current. The battery energizes the sensors. The controller receives the voltage, speed, and current from the sensors, determines a performance of the pump across multiple operating regions, calculates a numeric state of health (SOH) quantifying degradation severity for each of a plurality of pump characteristics across the regions, and executes a control action when the calculated numeric SOH for any region is less than a calibrated SOH threshold. The pump characteristics include pump circuit, leaking/clogging, bearing, and motor statuses. A vehicle includes an engine or other heat source, a radiator; and the thermal management system. The controller may execute a prognostic method for the electric coolant pump in the vehicle.

Abstract: A system and method for various levels of automation of a swing-to-hopper motion for a rope shovel. An operator controls a rope shovel during a dig operation to load a dipper with materials. A controller receives position data, either via operator input or sensor data, for the dipper and a hopper where the materials are to be dumped. The controller then calculates an ideal path for the dipper to travel to be positioned above the hopper to dump the contents of the dipper. In some embodiments, the controller outputs operator feedback to assist the operator in traveling along the ideal path to the hopper. In some embodiments, the controller restricts the dipper motion such that the operator is not able to deviate beyond certain limits of the ideal path. In some embodiments, the controller automatically controls the movement of the dipper to reach the hopper.

Abstract: The invention relates to a planning system and method for operating one or more road milling machines. In that context, material properties of a road are captured and are geographically associated with one or more roads or road segments. Based on the material properties, an expected milling output of a road milling machine is ascertained, in the context of carrying out milling tasks on the road, or an expected wear on the milling tools. An optimized sequence of milling tasks to be carried out is created on the basis of those data. Accordingly, the invention may enable optimized deployment of the one or more road milling machines and of resources necessary for carrying out the road milling tasks. Aspects of the planning system may be remotely implemented for centralized application with respect to each of the road milling machines, or locally implemented for individual road milling machines.

Abstract: A novel fuel savings scoring system is capable of analyzing real-time on-board diagnostics (OBD) information of a vehicle from a remote monitoring station unit. The fuel savings scoring system can derive a novel fuel efficiency comparison metric called “driving score.” Preferably, the driving score represents a commercial vehicle driver's fuel efficiency driving performance relative to those of peer commercial drivers in a commercial vehicle fleet organization. The driving score takes account of a current real-time mileage achieved by a particular vehicle as well as the best empirical mileage achieved by the same make and model to the particular vehicle in the commercial vehicle fleet organization. Furthermore, in some embodiments of the invention, the driving score for the particular vehicle can even be route and traffic condition-sensitive, which further improves the realistic usefulness of the driving score as a comparative fuel efficiency driving performance measure among commercial vehicle drivers.
