Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are described for implementing map matching techniques relating to measured location data. Probabilistic models, including temporal Bayesian network models and Hidden Markov Models, may be used for combining multiple classes of evidence relating to potential locations of points traversed on routes over time. Multiple route segments and overall routes may be maintained under relative uncertainty as candidates. The candidate route segments and overall routes may then be reduced into a smaller number of candidates or a single most likely route as a trip progresses. As the trip progresses, route segments in proximity to each location point are identified and candidate matches are determined. A probability of an entity traversing a candidate match at a given time and a probability of an entity traversing between a first candidate match at a first time and a second candidate match at a second time are determined based on a plurality of factors.

  • Patent number: 8589073
Abstract: A method for distributed traffic navigation in a vehicular network is presented. At each vehicle entering the network, information associated with the vehicular network is acquired and stored, and destination addresses are broadcasted as route requests. At each vehicle in the network, the stored information is updated through vehicle to vehicle communication. At each junction, a header vehicle is selected for listening for broadcasts to determine the presence of a matrix. If the matrix is not present, the matrix is initialized based on the stored information of the header vehicle. The header vehicle further estimates travel time on the road segments based on the matrix, calculates a backlog indicator based on the segment travel time and the route requests. The header vehicle further updates the matrix and generates a route based on the matrix. The matrix is broadcasted from the header vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8589074
Abstract: A method and system for generating fixed transit routes is provided. A first set of street network segments within a first threshold distance from a starting point is identified for a pattern inputted by a user. A proxy first point along each of the street network segments in the first set is also identified. A second set of street network segments within a second threshold distance from an ending point is identified for the pattern inputted by the user. A proxy second point along each of the street network segments in the second set is also identified. A best path for the pattern is determined including any one of the proxy first points along the street network segments in the first set and any one of the proxy second points along the street network segments in the second set.

Abstract: Methods and systems for route summarization are described herein. The method includes generating a route from an origin to a destination, the route including a plurality of maneuvers. One or more maneuvers are removed from the plurality of maneuvers. A summarized route is generated that reflects the removal of the one or more maneuvers from the plurality of maneuvers such that the summarized route has fewer maneuvers than the route.

Abstract: The routing protocol was designed for VANET in a city environment. The main objective is finding not only the shortest but the most efficient path for a packet to reach its destination. Packets are routed through the fastest paths as opposed to the shortest. Fastest path is defined as the quickest time for a packet to reach a destination irrespective of distance. While the shortest path is still considered, the routing protocol adapts to the network conditions and performs routing reactively. Making use of the city topology, packets are routed from junctions to junctions. This means that routing decisions are made when a packet arrives at a junction, to decide which path to take next in order to reach the next junction. This process continues until the packet reaches its destination.

Abstract: Hub based labeling is used to determine a shortest path between two locations. Every point has a label, which consists of a set of hubs along with the distance from the point to all those hubs. The hubs are determined that intersect the two labels, and this information is used to find the shortest distance. A hub based labeling technique uses a preprocessing stage and a query stage. Finding the hubs is performed in the preprocessing stage, and finding the intersecting hubs (i.e., the common hubs they share) is performed in the query stage. During preprocessing, a forward label and a reverse label are defined for each vertex. A query is processed using the labels to determine the shortest path. Hub label compression may be used to preserve the use of labels but reduce space usage.
