Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for trip planning using crowdsourcing. Validation information from automatic ticketing validation systems is collected and used to generate validation sequences, which include an origin, destination, and boarding and alighting timestamps. A path is defined from the validation sequence as a sequence of origins and destinations on a transportation network. The frequency of the path occurring for all travelers on the network is determined, along with the duration of travel time on the path. An expected transfer time between pairs of stations on the network is calculated from the duration, the pairs of stations corresponding to an origin and a destination in the sequence. One or more paths between a pair of stations corresponding to a selected origin and destination are identified and a trip plan is generated using the identified paths which have the least determined transfer time and the highest frequency of occurrences.

Abstract: Conventional navigation devices are equipped with technology that supports the driving of a driver by detecting the surroundings of a vehicle using a plurality of sensors such as cameras. However, because complex arithmetic processing is carried out using the detection results from the plurality of sensors, the processing load increases and other processes requiring a rapid response can be delayed. As a result, consideration has been given to decreasing the amount of arithmetic processing and reducing the processing load by uniformly decreasing the processing area for information detected by the sensors. However, if the processing area is uniformly decreased, information necessary for driving support may not be obtained.

Each process is distinguished by an entry speed and an exit speed. A preliminary speed profile can be divided into route sections, to each of which a process from the defined processes corresponds. The assigned speed profiles can be completely complex, in particular also comprise nonlinear sections between the entry speed and the exit speed, and in this way constant travel can be simulated, for example through an oscillatory change in the speed. It is also equally possible for stationary phases with a specific frequency and duration to be included in a process. The situational context which is formed by other processes is taken into account in the definition of the speed profile.

Abstract: Provided is a device, method and program enabling high-speed map matching while maintaining a precision of an analysis based on a map matching result even when event data is transmitted from numerous vehicles. A grid is obtained by the division of a region in which a road network exists into a latitude direction and a longitude direction by equal spaces based on data stored in the road data storage unit. A grid ID is unitarily assigned to each set of grids whose sets of arcs which are roads are common and arc passing the grid. An event grid matching unit correlates event data collected from a vehicle and a grid. When the number of pieces of event data correlated with the grid is large, a data selecting unit selects a part of the data. An event road matching unit correlates the selected event data and a road in the grid.

Abstract: A method of receiving information for a motor vehicle is disclosed. The method includes retrieving stored traffic information from a database and determining a communication period for receiving current traffic information from a service provider based on the stored traffic information. The method also includes receiving current traffic information simultaneously with other non-traffic information when the non-traffic information is being requested in order to limit the number of instances of communication with the service provider.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for selecting landmarks for navigation. In one embodiment, a system comprises an IMU that provides inertial measurements for a vehicle and at least one image sensor that acquires measurements of the vehicle's environment. The system also comprises a processing unit that calculates a navigation solution for the vehicle based on the inertial measurements, identifies a plurality of landmarks in the acquired measurements, and identifies a plurality of usable landmarks from the plurality of landmarks. The processing unit also selects a subset of useable landmarks from the plurality of useable landmarks such that the subset of landmarks has a smaller dilution of precision (DOP) than other possible subsets of landmarks from the plurality of useable landmarks, and calculates an updated navigation solution from the subset of landmarks. The DOP is an amplification factor of measurement errors derived from the geometry of the subset of useable landmarks.

Abstract: A system and method for providing traffic information provides for each segment of a route between an origin point and a destination point, a time-dependent journey planning calculation is performed, based on a time during which a vehicle is predicted to be traveling through the segment, to produce a segment result; a route result is formed, based on a plurality of the segment results, and stored for use in responding to a user request for traffic information. A portion of a recommended most economic route between an origin point and a destination point can be pre-determined and stored. With reference to a first network of geographical boundaries and second network of digital map nodes, a recommended most economic route between an origin point and a destination point can be determined and transmitted to a user.

Abstract: Certain processes are defined in a data record and in each case a multiplicity of such processes are preferably defined for different driver types.

Abstract: A travel-estimated road, which a vehicle is estimated to travel, intersects with a cross road at an intersection. A search area shaped of a sector centering on the intersection is defined to have a central angle to include an extending direction of the cross road. An arc intersecting point is then defined where an outer circumference arc of the search area intersects with the cross road. A display position of the road name of the cross road on a road map is determined based on a line segment between the intersection and the arc intersecting point. Thus, the road name of the cross road can be displayed in a position, which is in proximity to the travel-estimated road so as to allow a user to clearly recognize that the displayed road name indicates the cross road irrespective of the configuration of the cross road.
