Abstract: A device and a method for automatic generation of a recommendation for an item p to a user u. The device is at least indirectly connected to an item database containing a user profile database and a user interrelation database. A standard recommender engine accesses the item database and user profile database to calculate a score s(p,u) in a [0,1] interval indicating a “like” degree of an item p for user u based on a user profile of user u. The device further has a content discovery recommender to access the user interrelation database and to find at least users v that have a direct connection to user u to determine a fraction of the users v that know an item p and to generate a recommendation based on the score s(p,u) of item p.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for generating a product recommendation. During operation, the system receives graph data indicating vertices and edges of the graph. The vertices represent customers and products and the edges represent purchases. The system then receives a query of the graph to determine a product recommendation. Next, the system generates a finite-state machine (FSM) based on the query, executes the query, and determines whether a current state of the FSM is a traversal state. In response to the current state being a traversal state, the system generates a traversal FSM. The system then searches the traversal FSM for a nearest future traversal state, generates a bitmask for the future traversal state, and utilizes the generated bitmask when executing the future traversal state to generate the product recommendation.

The data is then available for the member and other associated members to view and search. Members are allowed to only list items with positive ratings. Search results are organized based on the Search Criteria specified. The System is also utilizing a generic hardware/software interface that enables communication of the information directly from the place of business (Retail Store Interface).

Abstract: In a method for utilizing social networking services of a user to perform online retail services, a processor retrieves a set of contacts, wherein the set of contacts includes a first group of contacts of a first networking service and a second group of contacts of a second networking service, wherein each contact in the set of contacts has a corresponding link to information about that contact. A processor receives a request for an action to be executed, wherein the request includes gifting information, wherein the gifting information specifies a required relationship between the user and the one or more contact of the set of contacts. A processor determines the one or more contacts that have the required relationship with the user, as specified by the gifting information. A processor causes the action to be executed based on the determined one or more contacts.

Abstract: An apparatus and methods are provided for personalizing messages that are sent to a recipient when a user of a website wishes to “share” a particular webpage or content thereof with the recipient. The apparatus and methods, which are founded on non-transitory computer readable media, involve using information available about the recipient as well as information about a product or service displayed on the webpage to identify supplemental content to include in the message to the recipient regarding the shared webpage. The recipient's prior browsing and purchasing histories with the website, as well as the purchasing tendencies of other customers, may be particularly helpful in identifying relevant supplemental content.

Abstract: Computational systems may be provided to assist with compression garment recommendations. A measurement of a person's body part may be received, and a compression expected to be applied may be computed. The expected compression may be based upon an arm measurement and upon a known relationship between a size of the garment, such as a stretched circumference, and the compression applied to an object that stretches the garment to that circumference. Graphs and formulas may be used to represent physical properties of a compression garment by assigning compression levels for ranges of relevant circumferences for a multitude of points along a limb. Information about needs of a patient, patient's condition, compression sensitivity, desired compression class, or desired use may be considered as part of a computational analysis to assist in fitting garments. The disclosed recommendation systems may assist clinicians, patients, consumers, or other users in selecting suitable off-the-shelf compression garments.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for assisting buying decisions using customer behavior analysis are provided in the illustrative embodiments. Product information comprising a set of product attributes is received about a grouping of products. Customer behavior information about a behavior of a customer is received from which a set of customer buying behavior factors is extracted. A customer buying behavior factor comprises an inferred preference of the customer for buying a product from the grouping of products. A weight is assigned to a customer buying behavior factor. A set of weighted customer buying behavior factors is mapped to a subset of the product attributes. At least one product is selected from the grouping of products such that the at least one product includes a subset of product attributes, and an overall weighted score of the at least one product exceeds a threshold.

Abstract: A system may include a similarity measurement processing unit configured to determine a plurality of similar users that are similar to a user based on similarity values including calculating the similarity values for pairs of users based on an importance vector and differences between rated items. The importance vector may include importance values corresponding to a plurality of items, and each importance value may represent a similarity importance of a corresponding item. Each similarity value may represent a level of similarity between the user and another user. Also, the system may include a rating processor configured to estimate a rating value of an unrated item for potential recommendation based on recommendations from the plurality of similar users, and provide a recommendation for the item based on the rating value.

Query formulation suggestions are identified by semantically analyzing the search query. The query formulation suggestions are used to further formulate the received search query. The query formulation suggestions include semantic-pattern-based query suggestions that are derived from semantic query patterns, one or more entities, and information associated with these entities. The query formulation suggestions are transmitted for presentation.

Abstract: Dynamically configuring OCR processing may include determining a device type and determining whether to perform optical character recognition (OCR) processing of the received image locally based on one or more OCR parameters. Example OCR parameters may include the device type, the image type, the size of the received image, the available amount of the memory, the measured/benchmarked throughput of OCR processing on the device relative to an OCR server throughput and network throughput, and/or the current level of network connectivity. If it is determined that OCR processing of the received image should be performed locally, the device may compute one or more name-value pairs corresponding to the received image and transmit the name-value pairs to a remote data server for processing.

Abstract: Example apparatus and methods provide a recommendation to a user about a product they may wish to consider purchasing. One method produces a single indication concerning a relationship between a user and an item with which the user has interacted. The single indication identifies whether the user likes the item and the degree to which the user likes the item. The single indication is independent of user signals processed to compute the single indication. The single indication is produced by a signal deriver that is loosely coupled to a model of users and items. The model may be a matrix upon which matrix factorization can be performed. Although matrix factorization is performed, it is performed on vectors whose elements are independent of the signals processed by the signal deriver. Since users may have different preferences at different times, the degree to which the user likes the item may be manipulated.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for identifying features of items that are more relevant for making recommendations to consumers for content that they may be interested in. The system determines the similarity between items that are recommend and items in the user's history and compares that similarity measure to the similarity measure calculated for a random item on the same features. From this similarity measure the relative impactfullness of a particular feature on a recommendation can be determined.
