  • Patent number: 11669798
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for clearing internationally shipped items through government customs agencies. Aspects of the invention utilize a unifying database to consolidate information from different parties (e.g., government entities, shippers, carriers, brokers, and item recipients) associated with delivery of an internationally shipped item in a common location. The unifying database facilitates communication between different the parties that use different data protocols, different data formats, different data types, different EDI, etc., Parties can update relevant information corresponding to their responsibilities within the unified database. When one party updates information, other parties can be notified electronically in essentially real time of status changes relevant to item delivery. Brokers can be assigned for at-will clearance work based on broker profile information maintained in the unifying database.

  • Publication number: 20150019454
Abstract: Consumer goods sold through international ecommerce sites can be classified using pertinent information extracted from data related to previous sales/shipping of commodities. A database stores historical information related to previous sales of commodities, including a description of the commodity, HS code, weight, size, etc. When a consumer makes a purchase of a commodity on-line with a request for an international shipment, the server operating the seller's website provides descriptive information related to the commodity being sold to a classifier server. The classifier server accesses the database and performs a search of the information stored in the database using the information provided by the seller's server to find a best match for the commodity being currently sold. The classifier server will then determine one or more parameters for the commodity based on the historical data stored in the database, that are used to calculate the fully landed cost for the commodity.

  • Patent number: 8725656
Abstract: A freight rate manager provides rules for calculating freight rates for use in delivering real-time costing information. The freight rate manager includes a rate sheet input module for accepting data describing a rate sheet. A rate sheet analyzer analyzes the rate sheet to identify potential errors and compares the rate sheet against rate sheet templates. If a template matches the rate sheet, then the rate sheet analyzer interprets the rate sheet according to the template. If the rate sheet analyzer does not find a matching template, a communications module sends the rate sheet to another location or otherwise stores the rate sheet for analysis. An accessorial charges module accepts information about accessorial charges. The outputs of the rate sheet analyzer and the accessorial charges module are provided to a rule generator which generates rules for calculating freight rates given the rates in the rate sheet and the accessorial charges.

Enhanced services available for e-freight air waybills include automatic locking of the air waybills and automatic export quality assurance. E-freight air waybills may be identified by special handling codes such as e-Freight Air Waybill with Paper Document (EAP) and e-Freight Air Waybill without Paper Document (EAW). Additionally, an air waybill history may be created for the e-freight air waybills. The history may include freight waybill (FWB) messages and freight negative acknowledgement (FNA) messages related to the e-freight air waybill.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for export control includes providing input for an invoice to a computer device. The invoice is for a sale or potential sale of at least one of goods and services. A computer device determines whether at least one of a customer, location for receipt of goods, and location for receipt of services is associated with an embargo state. The computer device blocks any portion of the invoice determined to be associated with an embargo state. The computer device determines if the at least one of goods and services requires at least one export license or other permission for exporting the at least one of goods and services. The computer device assigns permissions that are available. The computer device also communicates or identifies any permission or export license that is needed to be requested to initiate a permission or export license request for that export license or permission.

Abstract: Security checks may be implemented in computer systems or software to enforce security rules established by organizations and/or government entities. For example, the United States Transportation Security Administration and Canada Transport have recently established rules for air cargo transportation. When an air waybill is created, modified, and/or displayed a security check may be run on the air waybill. Rules for the air waybill may be selected according to a security code assigned to the air waybill. The security code may represent a country whose rules should be applied against the air waybill when performing the security check. If a security check is passed security information such as a security identifier may be displayed on the air waybill. If the security check fails a warning may be displayed to a user indicating which participant on the air waybill failed one of the security rules.

Abstract: An electronically enabled clearance system and method for improved border crossings. The system and method generate and manage an electronic manifest (e-manifest) and an electronic commercial invoice (e-release) according to legal requirements as well as the requirements of a manufacturer that imports goods from other countries. A third party logistics provider may facilitate the interactions between an importer of manufactured goods, a supplier, a carrier, and a broker by serving as intermediary and hosting computer applications that manage the flow of information. A commercial invoice provides details about the goods in a shipment. A shipment control number (SCN) is associated with each commercial invoice. The e-manifest for a vehicle lists every SCN for the parts shipments loaded on the vehicle and therefore, provides a link to the commercial invoice data detailing information about the parts in the shipment.

In one embodiment, managing the landed cost and harmonization may comprise generating a unique self-validating postage indicium or mark in response to a request that includes a description of contents for a package onto which an international shipping label is to be placed and a destination country where the package is to be delivered. As such, the unique self-validating postage indicium or mark may indicate that landed costs for delivering the package to the destination country have been pre-paid, wherein the unique self-validating postage indicium or mark and a customs declaration form may be printed on the international shipping label.

Abstract: Disclosed is an integrated global shipment system that provides end-to-end visibility of the movement of a package. The integrated global shipment system employs a shipment consolidating application for integrating one or more freight tracking systems with one or more end-delivery systems. As a result, shippers are provided with complete visibility of the movement of their shipments of goods from an origin country to a destination country and till the final consignees. In addition, the integrated shipment system significantly decreases the cost of managing inventories by providing a virtual inventory solution. Under this virtual inventory solution, suppliers are able to bypass distribution centers and delay allocation of goods until after the importation of goods into a destination country.
