Patent number: 11823372Abstract: In order to detect possible damage to a delivered product, a set of first images of the product is created prior to delivery which are used to generate a first 3D photogrammetry model, and a set of second electronic images are created after delivery which are used to generate a second 3D photogrammetry model. The two models are then compared to determine whether there is a sufficient deviation to conclude the product has been damaged. The comparison is performed by a cognitive system trained with samples of before/after photogrammetry model pairs each associated with either a damaged condition or a not damaged condition. The baseline photogrammetry model is part of a blockchain record and the recipient photogrammetry model is added to the blockchain record. Intermediate photogrammetry models can also be built where there is more than one shipper along the delivery route to assign liability to the proper party.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2020Date of Patent: November 21, 2023Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Andrea Young, John Kaufmann, Borja Canseco

Patent number: 8799111Abstract: Certain exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for order processing. A data feed including unique identifiers of purchased products, together with pairs of order numbers and product identifiers for products ordered from, but not delivered by, a store, is received at an electronic registration system. For each entry therein, a corresponding record in an ER database is created, and a message is transmitted to a supplier of an ordered product indicating that payment has been received for that product when it is determined that the entry is a corresponding order number/product identifier pair. This determination may be based on different masks used in creating a part of the unique identifier, and the order number, respectively. An indication that a product has been or is being shipped, along with a serial number for that product, is received from the supplier, and the ER database is updated as appropriate.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2012Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Nintendo of America Inc.Inventors: Jeremy Prellwitz, Elaine Unger

Publication number: 20110173129Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for facilitating international return of dutiable goods. A typical application involves a purchaser buying goods on-line, resulting in shipping the goods internationally to the purchaser. After receipt of the goods, the purchaser determines that return of the goods is necessary. The purchaser contacts the merchant selling the goods to request returning the goods. The merchant, in turn, communicates to the carrier delivering the goods that an international return is requested. The merchant provides certain information to the carrier allowing the carrier to make available the necessary documentation required by the customer to return the goods to the merchant. The documentation includes a properly completed commercial invoice that is made available to the consignee. The consignee can then sign and use the documentation for returning the item. The documentation may be variously provided to the customer either by the merchant or the carrier.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2011Publication date: July 14, 2011Inventor: Dennis Mack

Patent number: 7958061Abstract: Techniques are described for automatically and dynamically determining how to handle items being returned from customers while the items are in transit. In addition, the dynamic item return handling may include selecting one of various potential return destinations for each item being returned and one of various types of return routing for the return. In some situations, the item return handling is performed for an item being returned from a customer while the item is at an intermediate shipping location, such as a selected location to which the customer was directed to send the item. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract, and with the intention that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2009Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Felix F.
