Licensing Patents (Class 705/59)
  • Patent number: 9021598
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for managing application events are provided. In embodiments, a notifier is received that indicates a usage of an application installed on a user device and a date associated with the usage. A verification notifier is also received that verifies that the user device is registered in association with the application and indicates a date associated with the verification. The date associated with the usage and the date associated with the verification are compared to determine whether the dates occur within a predetermined time period relative to one another. In such a case, it might be determined that a provider of the application installed on the user device should be rewarded.

  • Patent number: 9020855
Abstract: A reading unit reads, from a memory card, encrypted license information and license management information corresponding thereto. A decryption unit decrypts the encrypted license information, and thereby obtains license information in plain text. An operation execution executes an operation based on the license information in plain text. The license management information indicates, for each operation for the content, a type of identifier necessary for decrypting the encrypted license information. The decryption decrypts the encrypted license information with use of an identifier corresponding to the operation to be executed, the identifier being selected from among a plurality of types of identifier indicated by the license management information.

  • Patent number: 9015077
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for encrypting and/or decrypting content according to broadcast encryption scheme. The decryption method includes: determining whether or not a revoked device among devices that have licenses for predetermined content is present; and according to the determination result, selectively decrypting a content key encrypted by using a key to prevent the revoked device from decrypting the predetermined content. By doing so, an unnecessary encryption process and decryption process that occur when there is no revoked device are avoided.

  • Patent number: 9009855
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for generating a developer license that allows a developer application to run on developer machine. A user identification (userID) used to register a user can be used by the user to register as a developer. The userID can be authenticated for the registered developer. Further, a machine used by the developer for the developer application can be registered, and a resulting hardware identification (hardwareID) can be authenticated for the registered developer machine. Additionally, a developer certificate can be generated for the registered developer. The developer certificate can be authenticated and used to sign the developer application. The developer license can be generated for the developer, allowing the developer machine to execute the developer application, based at least upon the authenticated userID, the authenticated hardwareID, and the authenticated developer certificate.

  • Patent number: 9009857
Abstract: The availability of software assets on electronic devices, such as mobile devices of users, is restricted based on the time as determined by a managing server. An application that runs on the electronic devices communicates with the server to obtain information regarding which software assets are permitted to be accessed, and restricts user access accordingly. The server may use a clock, in combination with administrator-generated access restriction policies, to determine which software assets are to be made available on each electronic device at particular points in time.

  • Patent number: 9009079
Abstract: A method (300) for planning assignment of floating licenses of software products is proposed. Floating licenses can be requested to a runtime server by multiple workstations (to which they are assigned until a maximum number of instances of the product are running concurrently). In the solution of the invention, a user of every workstation needing to run the product in a future timeframe submits (306) a corresponding reservation request to the runtime server. If at least one license is available for the selected timeframe, the runtime server reserves (357) the license to the workstation (so as to prevent assigning it to other workstations for the same period); at the same time, a corresponding temporary permission is stored (360) on the workstation. In this way, the product can be used (363-387) during the selected timeframe on the workstation only; this is possible without any risk even if the workstation is disconnected from the runtime server.

  • Patent number: 9002746
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to managing licenses for playback of digital content. A license management device may create licenses that determine the number of playback devices that can be authorized by the license. Each license may be included in a corresponding digital content. In addition, each license may be distributed to a set of playback devices. Thereafter, a playback device may playback digital content that includes a license when the playback device stores a matching license. A single license can be used to provide authorization to play digital content from multiple sources and/or multiple types of content. Playback devices can store multiple licenses, which allows playback devices to belong to multiple sets of playback devices authorized to playback various digital content. In one embodiment digital content files can contain multiple licenses to allow the content files to be shared by multiple sets of playback devices.

  • Patent number: 9002745
Abstract: Novel wager gaming systems, machines, and methods for ensuring that wager game code on a game disc executes on an authorized wager gaming machine are described. To prevent an unauthorized copy of a wager game disc or other storage medium is not able to execute on a gaming machine, the machine checks whether an authorization code has been previously written to the disc. If the disc does not have a code, the gaming machine generates a first segment of an authorization code which is used, along with other data, by a game provider to generate a final authorization code. This is done after the game provider verifies that the machine operator has permission, such as a license, to execute that game code contained on that specific disc. The final authorization code is transmitted to the gaming machine, equipped with a writeable optical disc drive, where it is written or “burned” onto the game disc. At this stage the game disc is tied to or associated with the gaming machine and can execute on that machine.

[MEANS FOR SOLUTION] A license file LF is a file encrypting license information L including usage terms of a substrate processing system for a specific user. A match confirmation program P2 confirms the match between the content of the license file LF decrypted by a decryption program P1 and device information DI, network information NI, and current time CT obtained from the substrate processing system to confirm the existence of the fact of illicit use. If there is illicit use, the control program P3 stops operation of the substrate processing system until predetermined action is taken based on the information from the match confirmation program P2.

  • Patent number: 8903743
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and data processing system for secure automated dispensing of prescription medications are disclosed. A preferred embodiment of the present invention utilizes broadcast encryption to encrypt a prescription for storage on a machine-readable medium that is pre-written with a key management block (KMB). The KMB encodes a session key needed to read from or write to the medium. Each prescription-writing device and medication dispensing device is assigned a unique set of device keys, which are used to recover the session key from the medium. Only authorized devices are able to recover the session key from a medium's KMB. Thus, only authorized devices may read or validly write prescriptions from/to the machine-readable medium. Hence, only authorized providers can write fillable prescriptions and only authorized dispensers can dispense medications to fill those prescriptions.

  • Patent number: 8893302
Abstract: A controller (900) for transferring media content rights between media devices comprising a memory (906), a user interface (910) and a transceiver (902). The memory (906) stores a list of media devices (914) capable of receiving the permissions associated with the media content from an originating device and an encryption key (920) that may be used to encrypt the permissions. The user interface (910) detects a user selection of a target device from the list of media devices (914). The transceiver (902) communicates an address (916) associated with the target device and the encryption key (920) to the originating device. Thus, the originating device is able to encrypt the permissions using the encryption key (920) and send the encrypted permissions to the address (916) associated with the target device.

  • Patent number: 8880903
Abstract: A removable drive such as a USB drive or key is provided for connecting to computer devices to provide secure and portable data storage. The drive includes a drive manager adapted to be run by an operating system of the computer device. The drive manager receives a password, generates a random key based on the password, encrypts a user-selected data file in memory of the computer device using the key, and stores the encrypted file in the memory of the removable drive. The drive manager performs the encryption of the data file without corresponding encryption applications being previously loaded on the computer system. The drive manager may include an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) cryptography algorithm. The drive manager generates a user interface that allows a user to enter passwords, select files for encryption and decryption, and create folders for storing the encrypted files on the removable drive.
